Thanks Cliff for making this video. We would camp at Promised Land and hike to Bruce Lake every year when our daughter was young. Beautiful in the Fall. We somehow would always see a snake along the trail and my husband would ask, “ Do you think it’s dead?” And I would reply “ Sure, Honey. It climbed up on that nice warm rock in the sun and died…not!” Now at 76 years old, this hike brought back many wonderful memories.

I remember going fishing there with my dad when I was a kid(late 60s early 70s). We always walked in on an unfinished road with boats that were on a homemade rig using a bicycle wheel with the boat upside down on top of the rig. I have a feeling that nice trail you were walking between Bruce Lake and Egypt Meadows Lake was the way we took with the rig.

I have kinda done that loop last year 1 day after both my Fire Depts. pulled a severely injured Hunter out of the woods after falling out of hid tree stand. I had begun my hike off the end of a local small side street Tauschman road. I had went out in the general direction i believe you have THEN (LOL) after quite a distance i seen a dilapidated old sign saying (Bruce Lake Trail) on my left Soooo i follow it, after several hours i come up on Bruce Lake. I stop to check my bearings and discover that i am at (BRUCE LAKE ROAD) which is the road/trail that comes in off Rt. 390. I hiked it out to 390 then preceded to hike back to my van. The total distance i hiked was approx. 8.5 - 10 miles in one day

All I have to say is you should be happy you chose to go strait once you got to Bruce lake, I made the mistake of going the opposite way and it was absolutely horrible. We must’ve been there around the same time, I have two videos coming out from there starting this Friday if you get time to check them out

Wonderful video! A friend and I used to spend a lot of time at Promised Land. We both camped and stayed in the cabins. We did hike a few times. I vividly remember hiking from 390 out by 84 to Egypt Meadows.

Back in the late 1960’s my father and brother would carry a 12’ row boat all the way back in to Bruce lake. My dad found a way too cheat the walk with the boat by dropping the boat off along the interstate. At that time they were building the interstate. The fishing was absolutely awesome. That bolt in the rock was there then. How bout that stuff. Sometimes we would hide the boat back in the woods. Great times !

I’ve been told out there those trails are referred to as 6 year trails, meaning DCNR maintains them every 6 years. It is not any easier navigating the Bruce Lake area in winter with blowdowns and faded blazes on trees when I trek thru on my backcountry skis.

Nice hike Cliff, I wondered if the pump could have been a rest , cool drink, fill up a canteen area B 4 bottled water was so prevalent as is the case today. Great viue of the lake but the whole hike was fun, except I banged my head on my desk ducking the spider web.....................Just kidding.

I notice you use your intuition to guide you on which way to go, sometimes. Do you ever get eerie feelings when you go through different areas? Like you wanna get out of there fast? Or other times it feels so peaceful you don't want to leave? The energies of the land intrigue me.
