Imma practice this. I practiced the straight lead punch. I used it against my friend who is a black belt in Karate. He couldn't even react. These techs are quite effective if you practice! Thank you

Just practiced the straight lead with my gf on the patio a few hours ago. Good to see you Nate. Glad to have met you at Bustillo's IMB a few years back. Glad we're both keeping active and healthy. I've been experimenting with Wong Shun Leung style foot shifting when doing a straight lead with the rear side. That exchanges the push shuffle with advancing with the rear heel as the entry, and shifting for generating power. Certainly slower, but same as how a cross will be slower than a jab. This way we have a similar punch to practice with the rear hand.

Hi Jeremy! Glad you are also staying active and experimenting with Wong Shun Leung's shifting. All ways of movement are good to practice and become natural to use in the right situations. Using the imagination and practically thinking to analyze each training method. Thank you for sharing this analysis and exploration! Hope we will meet again.

Nicely explained Nate. Now try turning the rear foot as you throw the lead hand and see the difference. It helps turn your hips and extends the arm even quicker. Tim Tackett does it really well and it's fully explained in Teri Tomms Straight Lead book.

Towards or away from the opponent/in your body or away from your body?
@jwfloating-world4 жыл бұрын
From the on guard stance, if you pivot on the ball of your rear foot. This naturally turns the hips and body towards the opponent. The front foot doesn't move but the weight transfers onto it slightly. Think of moving round, not forward get the best results. It takes a few months of practice, but it's worth it.

@@jwfloating-world Let's say it's your left that's the rear foot, is it pivoting clockwise or counterclockwise?
@jwfloating-world4 жыл бұрын
If in a right lead stance, left foot is back and heel raised slightly off the ground. Pivot (don't lift) counterclockwise with toes pointing from 10 o/clock, pivoting to 7 o/clock. Tim Tackett says it's the structure that helps create the speed. This movement on the rear foot is the same for hook and side kicks. I saw Larry Hartsell use a lead hook kick from 6 inches into a focus mitt with fantastic results by pivoting the rear leg. I'm left handed so I have to do everything in reverse. Hope this helps.

What if I am left handed and my opponent is right handed??
@SifuNate4 жыл бұрын
Mayank Shukla still would not matter much in this case but I can show you the situation. You would be fighting in the open position mirror image the opponent who is right handed. Unless they are in an orthodox left lead boxing stance. In that case you will both be in a left left closed face off.
@SifuNate4 жыл бұрын
Mayank Shukla regardless of whichever stance you or the other person is in. You will still fire your lead hand directly to the target and beat their punch or intercept it. If you also trap their lead arm it would be good as well.
