As I understand it, the same year that Bruce Lee won the Hong Kong boxing championship, 1958, he also won the Hong Kong cha cha championship. I'm a dancer and I can see how elements of Latin motion could be used in martial arts. I have never studied his one-inch or three-inch punch methods but I can imagine how slight lateral bends at the ankle and knee might be used in that sort of punch.

For those who are interested, Dr. James Bishop’s book: Who Wrote the Tao? The Literary Sourcebook for the Tao of Jeet Kune Do, although questioning the original book’s authorship, in essence really has highlighted the fact that Bruce Lee did indeed practiced what he preached. “Absorb what is useful. Discard what is not. Add what is uniquely your own.” ~ Bruce Lee

Everything Bruce was saying and doing still applies today. You have people that believe Brazilian or Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is the superior form of self-defense and you don’t need anything else. No. You still need to add striking and more grappling like folkstyle wrestling to your arsenal. But at that point you’re getting into a modern MMA curriculum. Royce Gracie proved that BJJ is great for and against a person that does not know it. But once other people know it, or your opponent is a state wrestling champ and also a golden glove boxer at the same time, the pure jiu-jitsu (bjj) guy is in trouble.. Like Bruce said the way of no way. Learn it all, take what you’re good at, and take what works and throw away the rest.. People forget JKD was also a philosophy - the way of no way.
I can think of two women combat sport professional martial artists who are practicing what you have said: Zhang Weili and Stamp Fairtex (and I’m sure many other women warriors, professional and nonprofessional alike, are doing exactly what you have said).

I dont even like to use the term JKD anymore, as that in itself is a limitation. You do more than intercept. You avoid, you confront, you redirect. I understand that Mr. Lee disnt live long enough to really expound on his theories, but ive been studying under James Lee's son, Greglon, as he was 7 when Bruce moved into their house in Oakland. To see it from his eyes, as a child watching the embryonic stages, then add his own concepts from tennis and mathematics, it blows my mind.
