@@davidson2004fatboy Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but Dan is far from living in Bruce's shadow, he stepped out of it a long time ago! Dan Inosanto is a superb and incredibly well respected martial artist in his own right and he's taken Jeet Kun Do to heights Bruce Lee only dreamed of. Dan is also a true martial artist, who even at the age of 85 still trains for 7-8 hours every day and then teaches martial arts for the remainder of it. He never Braggs or boasts and is actually a true 'master' at more styles of marital art than even his closest family are aware of. Times move on and most young martial artists I speak to have never heard of Bruce Lee, but they have heard of Dan Inosanto. Without Dan Inosanto, I'm certain there would be no JKD, Dan's carried the torch and is a living legend.

dan inosanto was the one that gave bruce his first nunchaku, he was also the one that taught him. nunchaku is part of filipino martial arts. it's called tabak toyok, or chako, kali is the major part of bruce lee's speed that is how he is so fasst specially in using tabak toyok. dan said "at the time he thought it was a worthless piece of junk. in three months, he was swinging it like he'd been doing it for a lifetime" says dan inosanto. filipino martial artist don't get much credit specially to famous people

@Zeek Banistor Saying Bruce Lee/Lee Jun-Fang/Li Xiao-Long wasn't a real fighter, is simply a result of ignorance. He really did beat a western champion on an Euro-Asian High school boxing match when he was a teenager. He really did train under the tutelage of Yip man. He grew up in martial arts, took Hun Gar kung fu at an early age, Wing Tsun/Wing Chun at the age of 15 and although he didn't reach the rank of Sifu (Black belt in kung fu) he had a talent for learning fast. Left Hong Kong at the age of 19 and studied Philosophy. You might only know his movie persona. Bruce was one of the key characters in American Full contact Fighting, what you know today as MMA and UFC. If you do a little research, you will know that Dan Inosanto was a Kali Champion in the Philippines. He wasn't locked into one art, he was a true Mixed Martial Artist. Anyone who says he wasn't a real fighter are usually the people that don't know nothing about him. Best regards.

Actually what Bruce did is scientific and methodical. If most people trained the way he did they would see a significant improvement because it’s based on good body mechanics. All this “imitating” him stuff is nonsense. Yeh people do just try to copy his movie stuff but people seem to forget he was actually teaching a curriculum. Jeet kune do principles work but people try to overcomplicate it. Some people might not like to hear it but mma is the opposite of what he was doing.

Great man Mr Inosanto, we called him Mr I. He was my Physical Education teacher (6th, 7th and 8th grade) at Malaga Cove Junior High School in 1971, 72 and 73. I have a lot of good memories of him. I had no idea he was a master martial artist and protégés of Bruce Lee until I started training in the martial arts in the late 1970s.

I had the honor of training with the great Daniel Inosanto for one day 35 years ago at the Degerberg Academy of Martial Arts in Chicago. He spent a lot of one on one time with me to disarm a swordsman with empty hands. It was beyond incredible!

Degerberg Academy always had an excellent reputation! I used to commute to downtown Chicago. One morning, on a corner near Union Station, I saw a young man with kali / escrima sticks sticking out of his gym bag. I took a guess: "Degerberg?" He smiled and nodded. "Good school!" Being fast is impressive, but your sense of timing is more important, and Bruce's timing was extraordinary. I've read an article years ago where his former student Jesse Glover has talked about how Bruce could read your intentions so easily. You could barely start to move against him and he would still beat you to the punch.

This is really interesting. It is the real story of what kind of fighter Bruce Lee was and what he was developing. A lot of stuff written but not many people know. Danny Inosanto knows. Nice to hear this. Very refreshing to know that Bruce was a researcher as well as Danny. Danny carries the legacy on. Reminds me of the book by Carol Dweck called Mindset. Yeah even Dan a FMA Kali champ admitted Bruce Lee was astonishingly fast and also very strong in his punches & attacks & was the only person to knock him down the most times! Dan Inosanto lived on and carried on JKD. Trained & mentored Paul Vunak who later trained the US Navy Seals. People think Bruce Lee's Fighting system is weak are really ignorant. Bruce was a damn good skilled fighter. He got In Alot of fights because many fighters thought they could beat him. If he were alive today, he would be honored & respected like Mike Tyson, Chuck Norris...I'm sure Seal Team 6 respects Bruce Lee👍 Let these people who think Bruce Lee & his Jeet Kune Do is ineffective. I have endless respect for Master Inosanto, and his knowledge and respect for others and his pure skill. I've been a martial artist for years and have been enlightened by him and Bruce by their technique and devotion to the art. Constant evolution of JKD which is so intriguing to me and their always for improvement and to evolve yourself as what Mr. Lee's and Mr.Inosanto's mantra was all about, again endless respect for these two great men!!

My dream was to meet him, sadly I did not, but I met his wife, Linda and kids, Brandon & Shannon in 1975 in Denver, Colorado, two years after his death and I have still have the photo to prove it. Listening to this and learning that Bruce took so much from so many systems, I can't help but feel that in a real fight, he would deck anyone. I can't imagine how devastating a Bruce Lee unleashing a barrage of elbows, knees and kicks would be with his precision, speed and conditioning. Fuck anyone who disagrees. This just validates how Bruce was the real thing. Thanks guru Dan. And about diversification, Bruce himself used that technique studying every other form until all such form were dissolved in his. Things evolve, with diversification, you catch something that you can employ that works and you use it. "Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is specifically your own". You cannot absorb anything new and make it useful if you stop exploring and expanding.

Someone to check out who was even more influential on Bruce is James Yim Lee. James built all of Bruce's custom training gear and helped Bruce in the development of JKD. James ran and taught JKD at the Oakland Kwoon.
