This particular move always helped me with taller opponents especially for executing the punch to the 'floating' rib area. I also learned this technique by watching many of the fights of Mike Tyson as well. I always appreciate the time and effort that Dan puts into the videos whether it's Martial Arts, financial education or any topic he covers. Gracias! Merry Christmas!🎄

@@DanLok I like your videos. What Is the difference between a boxers left rip to the body / And a shovel hook to the body ? The shovel hook As I understand Is targeting the liver. ? The left rip targeting the floating ribs ? Thanks Dan.

Not trying to be a stinker, just sharing what I was taught personally. I never learned this strike and it is certainly something I could utilize. One thing I notice watching you guys throw is that your fist is clenched during the entire movement. I was taught that my arm should be loose and relaxed up until the point of impact when the entire body snaps into it's fully extended strike position. Also refraction should be a focus when throwing any strike so you can reset for the next one. Thoughts?

Dan, developing a school or group also helps to transfer the knowledge and culture. I would join but I think you are down in Florida. I like the feel of staying loose like you’re doing, then the whole body turns/ throws the strike. If anyone has played ping pong, it is a similar feel when your paddle is about waist high, then you BAM! execute a side overhand slam/smash. You are loose, then you explode, and your hip turns with it. Like a racquetball slam too. Your hip leads, then arm, then fist, rapid unleashing. BAM! I like the feel of this shovel hook, sometimes when we chi sau or freestyle on the dummy or heavy bag you can throw them. Also hurts the side and ribs area, oof.

Would you consider adding a couple minutes to every one of these technical videos that serves as a "reversal"? Basically a quick mini segment that addresses how to counter the primary technique you are teaching. Another way of describing what I'm saying would be to have a thesis, anti-thesis and synthesis approach to sharing these techniques.

Hello Dan Lok! I wanted to ask you and it would much appreciated if you would make a “Bruce Lee JKD” demonstration video on how to do the The FRONT FEINT KICK TO THE HOOK KICK. I believe you only see Bruce Lee perform this kick in “Way of the Dragon” when he fights the 2 Karate Masters. He performs this kick on Robert Wall after the other Karate Master says “Is your name Tao Lung?” Bruce performs those 3 kicks (which would be really cool to learn the techniques as well) and on the 4th one is the one I’m talking about... where he knocks Robert Wall. I just got an MMA Heavy Bag for XMAS so I’ve been practicing. I’ve been a huge fan of Bruce Lee since I first saw his movies as a toddler. I’ve done Karate, Boxing, and Wrestling groaning up. I even visited his cemetery in Seattle as well as the Wing Luke Museum in the exhibition of Bruce Lee. I know it’s a lot that wrote to you but I would certainly appreciate a video demonstrating this kick and it would very helpful to others as well. Thank you Dan! “Be Water, My Friend.” ☯️

Dan Lok, thanks for the video, 👏 maybe it could be useful a detailed video about the takedown in 5:20... I am using slow motion to catch the details... specially the direction of your leg (to 12 o' clock of your opponent, or towards his 1 o' clock... I don' use your clock as reference because you are moving, and your clock too)... it looks like an O' Soto Gari... another detail: how to keep the balance during the execution?... where must I put the foot, only in the rear part of the ankle, or even behind the rear part of the knee? Any advantage about this takedown compared with an Aikido takedown.... I am using an Aikido of takedown at the finish because is easier for me, thanks again.
@DanLok7 жыл бұрын
I just did it without thinking. Wasn’t meant to include that in the video. Maybe in the future I can make a video just on takedown.
@HECTORARTUROA7 жыл бұрын
Dan Lok that maybe explains why this is the first time I watch this kind of takedown in a JKD video... normally, I watch another kind of takedown, similar to one you showed in other video, pulling the shoulder, I think... the same kind Bruce used to do... you didn't thought, like Bruce said: "Don't think, feel".🤓

Hate to disagree with a fellow JKD student, esp. Since I don't remember if I this is how I was also taught. However, this isn't correct.Thats not quite a shovel hook. Grab a short shovel, scoop and throw the scoop over the opposite shoulder. It Your not throwing a Shovel Hook. It is a "hook." That's a shovel cut. A shovel hook, involves a hip rotation. Throw the same punch but come at the floating rib and across. A shovel hook isn't merely a upwards punch thrown at a 45 degree angle originating at the hip.

Hey good to hear. I’ve been doing Wing Chun for several years, and I keep learning. I am not best at chi sau, but in recent years I realize it’s not fighting but only supposed to be working touch, reactions, sensitivity. I took a Krav Maga class for a little over a year and learned more, opened my mind. Now have been adding boxing footwork and slip drills, shadow boxing, freestyle work on wooden dummy and heavy bag, etc. I still use the Wing Chun principles but am seeking to blend in anything that can make me better. For example I also have noticed I prefer 50/50 or 60/40 stance weight distribution as I can move fast, good posture, quick and varied mobility. I also am reviewing JKD info and principles. Doing light sparring type drills and other attack/defense drills lately seems to also help reactions, distance control, mobility, etc. I tell other Students do quality first, then more speed, then more power, but being stronger and faster sure helps too. :)
@loneronin68136 жыл бұрын
@@mokyan7 I think it's wonderful that you have been creatively and successfully blending together what works best for you, your diligence is admirable. Over the past few years I've been dealing with chronic back pain that has left me incapable of most of the moves and methods that I know, but I've been using hand strikes from a mix of Boxing and Jeet Kune Do. (I use very Boxing-related punches and where it crosses over with Jeet Kune Do.) While I'm not able to fully rotate my body in the same way I'm used to, I've found that doing it the way Jeet Kune Do techniques suggest, it puts less pressure on my back without negatively affecting my punch. I can't really use Takedowns anymore like I would prefer to, and although my legs are still strong, I rarely use any kicks at all anymore, so I decided to dedicate my training to hand-work predominantly. I may be disabled now and I walk with a cane half of the time, (I'm only 26 believe it or not lol) but I'm just glad to be able to continue training with regularity again. I share my own personal experiences because I'm also pursuing the goal of being the best me that I can be despite my setbacks, and reading your comment about how you are achieving to become the best fighter and martial artist you can be is a goal I also share. Also, if you have any tips or techniques that you don't mind sharing, I would love to hear what you have to say ^_^ I hope you have an awesome Holiday Season and I wish you all the best.
