Leo ._idk this breaks the number1 rule of punching: pretend you're punching THROUGH your target
@yeahnahsweetas
@yeahnahsweetas 6 жыл бұрын
Clark, in this case the target is not the paper. It's an invisible point some distance in front of the paper. To be completely honest though, I don't even know if I'm right/Sifu Dan agrees with me, but the point of this comment is to show you the difference between our attitudes towards learning. You chose to find a problem with the lesson, I chose to interpret in a way that doesn't contradict what I already believe. We watched the same video, and you didn't learn anything, but I did. This shows a flaw in your style of learning, and is what makes the value of the lesson irrelevant to you, not the effectiveness of the exercise. "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."

It is a take on punching a candle and trying to put out the flame.. Done right , when you punch and pull your first back without touching the candle , you pull the Oxygen away from the candle and put it out. It's a great way to build a fast snap from a relaxed hand to a hard fist. You can learn a great deal of speed this way and accuracy

never heard of the candle going out on retracting the arm (foricing air from candle?). I've only seen candles blown out by the air pushed ahead of the fist due to good execution. Is there a vid of someone with a fully extended fist (in front of a candle) then retracting their arm to put out candle? I thought the candle technique is more for accuracy and traing the muscles of the arm to fire arm out in a straight line (by reducing muscle shake over time). Its used in many martial arts from asia. A higher level (saw this in Kyocoshin, Japan) is to place the candle in a biscuit tin, cut a jagged hole in the tin (just big enough for your closed fist), strike though this hole and put out candle. Any arm shake causes you to cut your hand :) it trains you much faster then the standard candle technique ...unless you lack control/skill; in which case your hand will be a bloody mess ;)

Avinash Devadiga dude we have a 40 year old at my dojo he got into it when he was 30 and he kicks my ass all over the place and still has more stamina. I started late too (back when I was 18) never too late. Start warming up stetching, jogging, doing pushups, sit ups and hold low squat stances for several minutes (work up to an hour for the horse stance) it'll help your body prepare. Most importantly: Go For It, Now!

I was taught a version of this by one of my teachers in his version you actually hit the paper "news paper works best" and listened for the sound when your punch and recoil were correct the paper would make a snapping sound when you hit it, if they were not correct the paper would tell on you every single time ..... great method and it works!

This is also wonderful for thrusting fingers training or the rolling wrist snap strike in Pa Kua. Pierce the armor is the name of the move in the JRQ form. Sword/thrusting fingers are nicely developed with this drill, the object is the make only a finger sized hole with the finger jabs. A bit different from the punch in it's training, mainly in the wrist.

Try doing the 1 inch punch on this, starting with the power from your feet, then up to your legs and body, but speed should also be applied, causing a power speed strike type wind force towards the paper. Quick, fast, and powerful.

In Jeet Kune Do and WingTsun striking is done in a relaxed manner and emphasizes speed. If I lock out the elbow with such speed, it's easy to hurt the elbow, because there is no tension to hold back. 2 principal ways to handle this: 1. build up tension and avoid locking out. Goes against the main principle of relaxed striking. 2. Prepare the body to handle this kind of stress. How? What do I have to train: muscles, ligaments or....

Subscribed! Thank you for posting your tutorials! A long while back I trained in *small smatterings of JKD (and exercise) based on books by the great Bruce Lee, then after that solely on the straight lead by Ted Wong's student (author) Teri Tom; used her book often. *Where I live there is no Jeet Kune Do, hence small smattering here and there. Two brief questions if that is okay: 1. This might sound like a silly question: Did Bruce Lee's students refer to him as "Sifu" or another term? 2. have you seen DK Yoo here in youtube? His movements are amazingly fast and his system is called the Warfare Combat System. His videos are all over youtube; seems like he is similar in speed to Bruce Lee. Part of his system aims to let the practitioner draw energy from the ground for speed via proactive reaction to attacks. ~ peace! Eric.
