Hey Dan. One thing I thought could be a good idea for a video is explaining the psychological parts of fighting as well as using your eyes. When you're facing an opponent, 1st of all do not look at their face, keep your chin down, eyes on the center of opponent's chest. This allows you to see the big picture. When a punch is thrown you first see it coming from the shoulder, it also allows you to see kicks coming because their lower body is in your peripheral vision. don't focus on the hand or foot that is coming in, focus on the body. 2nd I think it's very important that students adopt the principle of reactive energy rather than going into a fight with a plan, if you have a perfect combo set up in your mind before you execute it, it will most likely not happen the way you imagine. Find the holes, attack and move in yes, but your reaction to the other person is much more important than some fancy move that you think you have up your sleeve. Fight in the moment.

Great advice, low kicks are awesome for a self defence situation , I would say 9 out of 10 kicks hit the target whereas high kicks are less likely to hit a smaller target and can be easily blocked or grabbed or counter attacked when your off balance. High kicks look good in movies though. How do you rate a fast low to mid side kick off the front foot ? Excellent video....
@DanLok7 жыл бұрын
Sidekick is awesome, but it's more difficult to master and execute UNDER pressure. If one is willing to train hard enough, then absolutely, it's very effective.

Dan, I follow all your videos regarding jkd. 😍😍😘😘The groin kick is indeed a very devastating kick😓😓. It will be a great help only for the one who delivers it. But what about the one who receives it?? Say, the latter is you, how will you block or defend against it ? I would rather suggest you that along with the moves or strikes you show, demonstrate the counter attack too....

Studied Okinawan Karate for years before trying "sport tournaments" to try what I learned. Got disqualified for doing the groin kicks we drilled most every class lol. We used a similar technique called a rising kick. It worked well most times. Sport stylists don't look for it and some don't wear groin cups ... ouch.

@DanLok7 жыл бұрын
There are probably 7 variations of the groin kicks. Depends on how and where the opponent stands, you will kick him differently. You can get the bag at: www.centurymartialarts.com

The problem is that you lack power! The one I call the crushing technique !. It will never lower the opponent! You just have to have your whole body with you! And the power forward where the weight is moved forward! And then you have no protection! ALWAYS protect your neck and head when exercising! Because what settles down is? the ones you practice!

once, in a night club, a guy kicked me just like that.. he did it hard and right at the point. yes, it hurts. i broke his jaw, for this shit. i think, a correct answer. DON´T do it this way. do everyhing, but don´t kick the balls.. it´s just not the way to try to win a fight. my opinion.
@ricksterdrummer21705 жыл бұрын
Alex ander Well you could say that his “mistake” was to not continue attacking. But groin kicks are indeed overrated and a lot of people believe once you’re kicked in the groin you can’t continue fighting, but they don’t realize it only stuns you for a couple of seconds and because of a combination of adrenaline and anger of getting kicked in your most precious parts, you WILL retaliate. A groin kick should be similar to jab. It’s not something that stops a fight. haha
