Watched it. We cannot know exactly how it would have evolved had Bruce been here to complete. 40 odd minutes put together I thought was awesome and much better than the awful 1978 Robert Clouse concoction. Iconic showing his MMA and adaptability to rigid style opponents

I'm elated and disappointed all at the same time with the final game of death , the log scene and the new musical score along with new narrative and thinking inserted back into the revised version along with the new territories outtakes and pagoda outtakes all breathtaking. But no Bruce Lee fight scenes in the new territories, we know he did this because the photo sequences exist . He can even be seen momentarily with Dans fight seen and hapkido guy . So it definitely exists , he also shot rare home kowloon hk footage with tacky kimura as the praying mantis rehearsals. I'm thinking it's being kept back for more releases later . It's all profitable, unfortunately this is how business people like Raymond chow operate .

I know what you mean there 🤔👍👍 very possibly it would "turn up thought to be lost" the photos would hint that it wouldn't be a straight up photo shoot, that would be a bit weird 🥴 I would agree that over the years this stuff has been drip fed!! @@MondoChelloveckMovies I've noticed , if you watch the legend of Bruce Lee the 1983 version with the different scenes from the 1984 version , a keen eyed fan will notice one specific shot of Bruce swinging the nunchukas is a very rare scene I don't think they ever released before . Also the Korean version of tower of death has some interesting scenes including one where he throws the nunchukas at the guard. It's a completely different version .

Great info these mate, didn't know about that at all!! 😲🤩👍 when he's swinging the nunchucks could you tell what movie it would have come from? 👍 yeah I've seen the throwing of the nunchucks but it's weird how the guard comes in and uses them quite well and Tong Lung just gets his out, the guard runs off and he throws them.....seemed a bit slightly cut as if Tong Lung should have shown his skills before the guard ran off 🤔 yeah Korean cut is really different isn't it 🤩🤩👍👍

@@MondoChelloveckMovies hi mate , yes it's the game of death scene , he's side-on almost , I think it's an extension sequence because he laughs slightly. There's a lot of enter the dragon stuff like this too. Where you can see a few seconds more after he looks at the book in the room sequence just after he sees the birds in the cage. I believe there's also an out take where tang lung uses the nunchukas in god 2.

I agree with you there Dan!!! This was my most anticipated disc in the set and I kind of thought it might not live up to my expectations! But wow!! It blew them away mate 😲😲🤩🤩 I know what you mean about the emotional side to it, the documentary was so good leading up to the final 50 mins and I thought I might have seen all the footage throughout the documentary, but it was only a taster for the "Final Game of Death" thanks for watching Dan and as far as a lasting legacy of this one of a kind star, I think it was perfection 🤩🤩👌👌👌 cheers Dan 😁😁

Seriously would you have paid £120 just for “the log fight” which lasts 2 minutes even though Bruce isn’t in it? As good as “the final game of death” was it didn’t contain any footage of Bruce that we hadn’t seen before,yes it had the “log fight” but he wasn’t in that section and to be honest I felt it was rather underwhelming,it’s good that we have now got every scrap of filmed footage from “the game of death” though. It works well as a short film.

It was mind blowing seeing new footage of Bruce. And remastered. A real treat. The only footage missing is Bruce doing flying kicks at Kareem with no springboard. Would have love to have seen that remastered. Just makes you think what could have been. Luckily Bruce was a workaholic and we got the films we got. Fantastic documentary.

You will love this documentary mate.. for the reasons you have stated! It's such a mess of a movie if you look at how they "integrated" Bruce Lee into the 1978 film, but to see this extensive documentary followed by the longest cut of the filmed movie is truly sensational 😲😊😊 all the people who have seen it say the same!! Hi John, The Final Game of Death is one of the many jewels to this set, but WOW it’s surreal watching Bruce Lee’s real vision in what he wanted to do with this movie. Amazing new found footage & I gotta agree a fascinating documentary & essay on The Final Game of Death, one of the best I’ve seen of the legend. 🤣👍And like yourself I watched the patched up version -theatrical release of Game of Death first, & agree every fan should do that to feel a bigger impact into what went into this Final Game of Death disc. I’ve always believed with more creative control & now directing movies Bruce Lee would of kept raising the bar with fighting sequences & action & he was already setting higher standard not just in Asian cinema but Hollywood as well. Great review, I was totally mesmerised in that documentary-essay 😎

To see this cut and documentary is one of the best "upgraded/missing scenes/new footage" things I've ever witnessed!! 😲👏👏 just brought it all together and was wonderfully done!! 🤩🤩👌👌 its very bitter sweet to always know that Bruce Lee was just starting out on what would no doubt revolutionise action movies for Asian Cinema and the world 😔 yeah Carlos, that's what it was MESMERISING!!!! Glad you enjoyed it. I watched the documentary, great footage although apart from the log scene, most of the footage is already available by simply searching the internet, just not in this quality. Arrow did a remarkable job cleaning the video footage for this 4K presentation, however, I have an issue with their tampering with the original soundtrack. All of Bruce's original dialog in the final GOD film footage was replaced and overdubbed by some rather pathetic voice acting. Not only that, but even the sound effects, Bruce's "cat calls", punches and kicks sound effects are just badly overdubbed. The foley artist could've, should've done better with this release or even just left the original soundtrack alone and untouched. As for the narrative, maybe they should've got Shannon in to deliver a more exciting commentary as this sounds like it's been done by an AI. 10 out of 10 for the video as the clean up of the footage is the seller here and absolutely fantastic, 3 out of 10 for the soundtrack as it sucks that they never used Bruce's actual voice over.

Honestly...I might be in the minority here, but I actually liked the theatrical release of Game of Death. Everyone talks about how distasteful it was to use Bruce Lee's real life funeral footage and how the story is very shallow compared to Bruce's original intention for the movie. And I don't disagree with that at all. BUT a famous actor being harassed by the mob and going the lengths that he does to protect himself and his singer girlfriend is actually a decent story. It was serviceable. It's just weird how seriously the story took itself, but when Bruce Lee finally shows up at the end of the movie, the comedy and playfulness Bruce intended for GOD is so apparent and it just clashes with what was written around the last few minutes of the film. Anyways, thanks for this spoiler free breakdown. I ordered my own Arrow disc-set specifically FOR this Final Game of Death disc AND the extended Mandarin cut of Big Boss because I always felt like that movie was lacking something. I'd love to see more connection Chen makes with his cousins before he goes to avenge them. I am so damn excited to get my collection soon!

I totally agree with you on your view of the original Game of Death cut mate 😊😊👌👌 as you feel that way about it you will be absolutely stunned by The Final Game of Death......if this review has piqued your interest, it's NOTHING to what you will be seeing in the amazing documentary 🤩🤩👍👍 I would have loved to drop some hints as to what you could expect, but that would have taken away some of the incredible things you will see in it!! The Mandarin cut is so good as well, as you finally get to see the bits that kind of didn't make sense....make sense 👌👌 honestly I can't wait to dive into it again with Game of Death II disc as I'm interested to find out more about this movie.....then back to Big Boss with The Debs! This is the yellow box set selling on the Bruce Lee website correct? I think I'd be ok with Shannon trying to do something about remaking this one so the bad face editing is removed. What they were able to do with the latest Indian Jones film seems like it might be possible to fix what was done in the original 1978 version. I've not seen the BluRay version or the one you're showing here, so if my bias has already been addressed, please forgive me.

Yes it is John, I think these days with deep fake making people look exactly like Bruce Lee they could go back and deep fake Game of Death, I think that would be great. This version looks amazing John, the Final Game of Death cut fleshes out the Bruce Lee pagoda scenes and the 4k quality on the original Game of Death looks incredible 👏👏 there is another 2 alternative Asian cuts of Game of Death in there as well on blu ray, stunning stuff John 🤩🤩👍👍

I bought the set because of the Game of Death. A guilty pleasure of mine. Have an early dvd with no extras, maybe a trailer. But not the one I remember seeing as a teen. Have the outakes in low quality. Can't wait to get the set.

Well if your a fan of Game of Death, then you are going to be BLOWN away by what you see in this set! 3 versions of the movie, that HUGE documentary "The Final Game of Death" with all the footage from the pagoda, outtakes as well....all in pristine condition and probably much more that I haven't bumped into yet 😵‍💫 it's great that, as well as doing amazing things with his other movies, they are giving Game of Death the V.I.P treatment it deserves 🤩🤩👏👏

Hi, thankyou for this review. Having heard what you have said, it is enough for me to get the box set. I don't have Blue Ray or 4K so I'm hoping it's also in normal HD. I know it's expensive, but truth be told, I would pay the same just for a copy of The Final Game of Death, now that I know what to expect. Funny you speak about nunchaku's ... I got my first pair when I was 18yrs old in the 70's, and they were hard wood hexagonal cut with a double string loop so not easy to use but quite lethal. The wood so hard it could easily smash bricks. There is only one thing more painful than hitting your elbow using them ... that's hitting the same place on your elbow twice ! ... Not long later I got another pair smooth rounded wood black with a small chain just like Lee used. Much lighter wood. Practised much better and faster, and had more control. Then I got two very large heavy ones with a large thick chain that swiveled. Both beautifully painted ..in gold with a picture of Bruce on it and resembling the Game of Death pair, and the 2nd in sliver with dragons on it, and again the same chain. It was obvious they were for display purposes, so that's exactly what I have done with them, on my living room wall, next to an amazing oil painting I bought of Bruce Lee years ago, taken from a scene in ETD during fight with Han. [ not in painting just the trophy room ] Years later, due to my age, I bought some practice chucks made of foam type materal, black with a good small chain like my real black ones, so a joy to use, so I don't forget my method, as close to Bruce's in ETD as I can get. Finally I saw a pair in a martial arts store when on holiday, and they were small metalic that extended like a police batton, so they fitted into a tiny case like small binoculars. Take them out, hold both ends, and give a single shake down, and out they come to full size. Had them about 20 years now...Never bought Game of Death 2 ...but I did see....once. It was enough. Lol ... Be interesting to see that review next. Thanks again, this was an excellent review. Regards Jim. ...... edit ... Hello again ... Ok, I don't have a Blue Ray player so the box set on Amazon is Blue Ray or 4K only. It looks like normal hd is not released, yet not everyone has Blue Ray. I have a question if you can help, it may be a stupid question, but here goes ... What does Blue Ray "Region Free" mean ? I know what it means for normal dvds with Britain being Region 2 so Region 1 will not play on my player....and yes Region Free will . Will Region Free Blue Ray work on a normal dvd player ? It can be confusing ...well for me anyway. Lol Thankyou !

Hi Jim, region free is the same for blu Ray as well...meaning the discs play on the machine if they come from another country and they are not locked to their country....eg.... Region A only plays in US and Region B for rest of world.....sadly a blu ray will not play in a dvd player, it needs a blu ray player...but a blu ray player will play dvds as well Jim....hope that makes sense mate 🤔😁😁👍👍

When I was a kid Game of Death was my favorite. It had the most fight scenes to my knowledge out of any of his films, and as a kid you really can't tell when it's Bruce Lee and when it isn't. As an adult, I really appreciate how good the soundtrack is. Most people like Enter the Dragon the most, but that film felt like a movie with Bruce Lee in it, but Game of Death was a movie created for Bruce Lee while at the same time the last half hour was all Bruce's ideas and visions. You could also argue it was Bruce Lees most iconic role and that jump suit is basically the most recognizable version of Bruce Lee. While it's easy to tear apart the movie as an adult and say it's exploitive, can you honestly say you'd rather the movie had never been made?

Totally agree with you on what you say about Game of Death mate 😁😁👍👍 yeah it's not the best but you certainly get the pay off with this iconic look of Bruce Lee and in 1978 how else where they going to use this footage but glad as well to have the best version of all of the Bruce Lee footage (as of now) as a supercut you can also watch!! I never knew for ages that Bruce Lee shot this footage before Enter the Dragon 🥴 yeah fascinating in a way bud!! Thanks for this great comment 😁😁👍👍

It sucks that i can't watch The Final Game of Death because it's not "region compatible!" But IS there a way to watch it without having to buy a whole new "region free" blu ray player? Besides The Big Boss Mandarin Cut it's the thing I'm most excited for!

Hmm hopefully Arrow will release it in the US in the future bud 🤞🤞🤞 they do that from time to time 👍 unfortunately the Final Game of Death isn't available in any other release.....at this point 👍👍👍
