The look which Lee gives Mako at 2:19. Even at a much younger age, when I first saw this episode, I knew I was getting a "badass moment" warning.

This was unquestionably the best episode of this short-lived 60's TV series, largely because it centralized on the best aspect of the show -- Bruce Lee. Had the makers of the TV series expanded Lee's martial arts - as they did in this episode - the show would have lasted much longer and it would have become a major hit. Sad case of how racism and discrimination is not only damaging to minorities but to its perpetrators and the mainstream majority as well.
@AllRequired5 жыл бұрын
In fact, it was the crowning moment of awesome for the entire series. Imagine, Kato having been so neatly and beautifully ambushed at the start despite everything, making it crystal clear (1) he knew there was going to be a fight, and (2) he was willing to let his boss have the rest of the bunch if he let him at the guy who put him in the trash earlier. Now it's Kato's turn to take out the trash.

I don't see how the great Bruce Lee could have been so unappreciated by the idiots in charge of the show. It would have been a huge success if they could have enlarged his part. He was magnificent.
@lwmson2 жыл бұрын
@@franceswitham8214 I don't think that it was under appreciation as much as it was fear that the American mainstream wouldn't accept an Asian TV star. That was why he was rejected for the starring role of Caine in the TV series "Kung Fu," despite the fact that he was obviously the most qualified actor in Hollywood to play the role.

Kato (bruce lee) was a big reason why....me and my brother watched this at the time (well...the car also...lol) . Its amazing how there were complaints by some parents about the violence( kicking and hitting) this show had every week. If they only knew what we have today...lol. Even though me and my brother hated to see this show cancelled after one year...it was good... in the long run...because it was going to be a showing to the viewing public at how good of the kung fu skills that Bruce Lee really had. When his first movie was released here in America, not everyone knew who he was....but a lot of us did because of the Green Hornet series. Everyone eventually would soon know the name and his skills as a martial artist.

@@scottpedroley5851 i think your forgetting one large detail when bruce went to Hong Kong and signed up for the two picture deal with Raymond chows golden harvest aftwr he made big boss aka Fists of Fury over seas 🇮🇪 he came back to the States to make longstreet the way of intercepting fist then went back ti Hong Kong and returned to do so more episodes of longstreet Wensdays child etc.. So bruce hada very loyal following due to his role as KATO and lee chung in longstreet then we got big boss aka Fists of Fury over seas fist of fury aka Chinese connection over seas way of the dragon aka Return of the Dragon over seas and the best of the lot in my opinion Enter the dragon the greatest martial arts movie ever made oh of course game of death revisited is the best version of the movie because of Bruce being so particular with his art most of the footage was discarded and the result movie flopped hope that this information is useful may it be well with you WALK ON 🇮🇪🇮🇪🙏💯👌👏

I LOVE Bruce Lee … the way that he was standing, then when Low Sing hit the floor, Kato did his final pose at that same time, lol. 😂 Did any of you notice that when Kato’s hat got knocked off while Low Sing was standing up dying, his mask almost came off too, but because Bruce is sooo FAST, he was able to keep it on his face while waiting for Low Sing to ‘ finally ‘ hit the floor. I have a feeling that the cut that Kato got on his forehead was actually real. ..

Starting in January 1966 (when Batman was rushed to TV by ABC because all their previous fall shows were all completely tanking) audiences got used to Batman's "campy" portrayal of heroes fighting crime. When The Green Hornet premiered it was pure drama and audiences were expecting something along the line of Batman and it wasn't appreciated as much and sadly it lasted only one season. It's only in reruns that it has had a huge renaissance.

Wasn't a case of how good anyone was, but creating a show that would appeal to the largest audience which, in America (and virtually all other English speaking countries), was predominantly White. In retrospect we can appreciate Bruce Lee's talent, but for a Chinese actor to even get a co-starring role in a mainstream television show in America in the 60's was an incredible achievement in itself. Kung Fu, the show from a few years later, was specifically written with a Chinese actor for the lead... And even though it was designed to show off Oriental martial arts and philosophical ideals, the studio just couldn't bring themselves to hire a Chinese man for the role, choosing instead to go with David Carradine who in my opinion was terrible.
