@Daniel Smith.....Well of course Bruce would be at a disadvantage in close quarters with big guys but the whole point of Original JKD is to stay detached like a fencer & close in fast on decisive targets....You mustn't confuse sport fighting with rules where size would make a huge difference with no rule streetfighting where getting in first to decisive targets with no rules would end it quickly whatever the size difference... Bruce would have been the first to admit that a 240 lb guy in close would destroy him. But he would stay DETACHED like a FENCER & break the kneecap....I wouldn't dismiss Bruce's philosophy or that which he borrowed from others like that. He wasn't a bullshitter. In what he taught his students for the street he was utterly practical. Forget the theatrical stuff in front of the camera going 'Whaaadaaarr !!....or, 'Chow -Wooo'...& whatnot..All those uneconomical movements which were only to look spectacular for the camera.....That bore NO RELATION to what he was developing for his REAL LIFE students....Bruce never instructed them to wear pyjamas & as far as we know his wife Linda said his feet never smelled at all..He never had athlete's foot or ponged...He was even against 'belts' as ranking saying 'The only thing they are good for is holding up your pants......EYE - O .......lol

To be honest, watching Bruce calmly read his opponent, delivering restrained but completely decisive jabs and punches, always steady, tracking his opponent with confidence, is scarier than watching him fly around in the movies. The guy is stone cold and calmly aware of your next 2 moves. Incredible.

I've experienced this once. For people who dont fight in the ring, let me tell you this shit is almost impossible to deal with. The dude I fought reads me like an earbud manual, counter attacks my every move and he was fast as hell. You just got this feeling that you are always half a second too late, I felt like a chained dog and he's on the other end of the leash, there is just NOTHING you could do, it gets you so frustrated to a point you just wanna go full rage mode and charge at him, but with that, thats when he knows that he just broke you. Next thing you know you were on the ground cuz he just sidekicked your fuckin knee.

Bruce Lee certainly was a master. I’ve heard there were times during filming where he was told to slow down his movements because _he moved faster than the camera’s shutter speed._ Apparently the reason we have so few recordings of his martial arts outside of films is because his style was more suited to taking down opponents quickly rather than prolonged bouts.

Shove at 2:13 is EPIC! Not many martial artists winning a retreating kick fest will jump forward ever. @James Sager The one he stood up with a shove is perfectly feasible against average opponents, but not serious opponents. The front kick is available with the same speed and power to even amateur level kick boxers and that fighters. It is a continued embellishment of a man who had not ONE single recorded fight. @@biggerissues6085 Wait you're trying to dis Bruce Lee? This was a recorded fight. His opponent was very very skilled, but as you said, the disrespect shove Bruce gave him only works when a huge skill differential is there. Bruce Lee is THAT much better than this very skilled guy. Bruce has jumped down flights of stairs. He kicked 700 lb kicking bags high. In this demonstration he did 1 finger pushups. Bruce trained by literally fighting the old traditional martial artists of China to find the ultimate style.. he didn't do judges, they were full striking fights. Bruce was MMAing at his start. For you to say he has no skill is the standard thing CCP modern propaganda does... They fear Bruce and demystifying martial arts. Now Chinese marttial artists are not the world class fighters hand to hand anymore because Bruce trained the world because Bruce Lee valued freedom over totalitarian dictatorships. Praise Jesus for giving us such a man as Bruce Lee. May God help the Chinese people get their freedoms to choose their jobs like they had before Communism rolled in and told them what to do. Confucius say,"Man who does what he likes for a living never has to work a a day in his life. CCP says,"You do what the frick we tell you to do,slave." Do you enjoy propagating CCP lies & propaganda? I suspect he actually wouldn’t like it now, as it started of with little or no rules, with various different fighting styles, now it has developed into its own sport or spectacle and has or is going down the path of other fighting disciplines like boxing, judo and karate, which has become watered down. My grandfather was a huge fan of Bruce Lee. He luckily landed a job as a young aspiring cameraman for one of his films, but was horribly disappointed. He recalled filming coming to a end for the day and Bruce Lee getting angry that my grandfather was not getting him at the right angle and shoved him out of the way to show him how to do it 'correctly'. My grandfather told me everyone was silent and he replied, 'that is how I was doing it, sir' and Bruce Lee said, 'are you challenging me? You are a nobody and are lucky to be behind the camera let alone on the set at all---either listen or get out'. My grandfather told me he was heartbroken and demoralized that his idol would treat him or anybody in such a manner, especially in front of their peers. He told me he kept his mouth shut, finished the day and never returned. He worked as a cameraman for other high profile films and ended his career as a producer. He even worked for Bruce Lees son! Lee incorporated alot of his personal philosophy into his movies. Like in Enter the Dragon, he is asked what style he uses and his response was "style of no style". He also said that in real fights opponents won't care about stances and the usual rules of combat and the fighter must adapt which is why he made the "be like water" statement. This is why he is known as the father of MMA.
@TheMisterGuy

"He also said that in real fights opponents won't care about stances and the usual rules of combat and the fighter must adapt which is why he made the "be like water" statement." No, that was taken from Musashi's book, written 300 years before Lee was born. Read Book of Five Rings, you'll see the "stance of no stance" and "mind of no mind" stuff in there. Check the Water chapter if you're having trouble finding it. The Fire chapter is where you'll see the root of "be like water", such as in the "three methods of forestalling", where Musashi talks about overpowering the enemy, flowing with them, or pretending to relax momentarily to change their state. "This is why he is known as the father of MMA." No, he's called that because people want to give him credit for things he didn't do. They want him to be the one-stop shop for everything in martial arts. The fact is that Gracies were doing MMA twenty years before he was born, all through the time he was alive, and started UFC after he died. Their family brought modern MMA to the world. Whereas Bruce never fought in a match. Even Gene Lebell, the Judo champion, did a "Boxing versus Judo" fight with special rules during the 1960s. This stuff was already going on and Bruce didn't really participate in it at all.

Not only that, but Bruce basically wanted to take Luck out of the Draw, So to Speak. A Very awfully difficult thing to do. But He did it. There's always that Rare Bomb that can land on You in a blink when fighting. Bruce didn't like that Chance Occurrence to happen so maybe that's why He worked on His Power and Technique to such a degree, that he used that Devastating Lead Jab to try and Counter the Luck?

I heard there's not many people that can even throw that punch correctly with that Floating Technique like Bruce used. I heard somewhere's that back them days atleast, only 1 in 10,000 people had the capability of delivering that strike? Stats might be different now a days because there's alot more people, ya know? But I really do believe that in those 7 Secret Volumes that Bruce wrote while hurt in 1970, that Shannon Lee has?
