Great Interview once again, as per the Wong Jack Man fight and if Leo (Fong) was there, as told to me by him he was not but recieved a call from Bruce very shortly after it happened and he says that Bruce told him he won and the usual how Wong ran around and how Bruce realized that Wing Chun as he knew it was limiting him and how out of breath he was and after this is when he really jacked up his cardio and JKD evolved, again this is what I was told by Leo himself and not my 2 cents lol. Alex seems like a really cool guy and very knowledgeable, would love to meet him whenever I make it back to home again...This channel is by far one of if not THE best one out there. Elias, I read that Leo saw Bruce the next day practicing punches in James Yimm Lee's garage against a boxing glove hung from the ceiling. Bruce said, "Leo. I need more angles." And started moving around the glove. Leo also said he saw scratches on Bruce's neck. May be from Wong clawing at him or from the hidden bracelets that Matthew Polly mentions.

Bruce was honest, he admitted to Leo Fong that if he had known boxing back then he would've brought in hooks and uppercuts, but instead he used what he knew which was crap chain punches to the top of the head which made his hands swell up. He also told Jesse Glover about the fight. He never lied to people about how much of a failure that fight was and it made him better. He didn't lose cos Bruce would've been so devastated by a loss that he might've not been able to take it.

Here we are some 60 years later, and this is still in dispute? My thing is what Mr. Lee did as far as exposure to martial arts, is invaluable. Win or lose, look at his body of work afterwards. His influences still resonate in the 2020's. Even his JKD was evolving at the time of his passing. My teacher, his nephew, and James Lee's son teaches his own version of JKD, and it looks nothing like Bruce's methods(only because it has evolved, not stagnated, and that's the way he would have wanted it). Nice interview, but time to walk on.

@@CharlesDamianoBLC Linda Lee is a liar, and that's easily proven. In the book kungfu Dummy Quotes in your video, Bruce Lee, the man only I knew, Linda Lee stated that Bruce Lee got wjm on the ground and proceeded to pound him in to a state of demoralisation, but Bruce Lee at the time said he got wong on the ground and raised his fist saying do you give up. Clearly, both accounts can not be true. Of course there is also the George Lee interview from 2005 where he states he took Linda Lee out of the room because Bruce was concerned she might get hurt because she was heavily pregnant at the time so she wasn't even watching the fight, not to mention her lies regarding Bruce Lee's drug addiction.

Hi Gentlemen, I don't want to pretend a smart one but like many fans of Bruce Lee I was also interested in this skimish between Bruce and Wong Jack Man. It seems true that mr Wong tried to avoid direct contact. It doesn'e have to mean that he was scared, he simply didn't want to be punched by Bruce. Wong Jack had a lot of space to move. The fight didn't take place in the ring. So in general, Bruce was chasing his opponent untill he pressed him against the wall and then Wong Jack Man ' thanked' for the fight. They both had some kind of agreement - note that Bruce didn't announce to others about that encounter, though as usual Bruce blamed himself that the fight lasted too long. Regards.

@@CharlesDamianoBLC Then see You on Friday. PS. By the way, do You know about Bruce Lee's unintetional skimish against a master ( here master means a good fighter, a person in the know ) at Bruce's place. It started unexpectedly, just like ; "I'll show you this and you'll show me that" - some kind of a tutorial. But then, all of a sudden, the tension between these two men grew up ( it happens sometimes, just from fun to a serious struggle ). Maybe the clash lasted a little bit too long and they were simply trying to reach one another and because they weren't able to achieve their goal moving form the hall towards the kitchen, the situation became a little dangerous and believe or not, but they had to be stopped and separated by another man who was a wtness of this . Such accidents even happen between friends who are just too ambitious and they lose temper. I don't mean it was a real fight because none of them wanted that, I just think that this 'master' was guite good. All the best !

@@CharlesDamianoBLC going back to the early 90’ s We were having a meal in a Casino Birmingham Uk. The gentleman who was serving us had a twang in his voice .. who reminded me of Bruce Lee… as he was serving us I said that his voice reminded me of someone… (assuming he was Chinese I didn’t want to offend… ) He smiled and instantly said Lee Sui Lung ! Yes!! I replied..he told me many had said that to him. We started chatting and he told me he was at school with Bruce’s Brother Robert. He then went on to tell us how Bruce was a bit of a trouble maker and would often picking fights on people older than him and bigger just so he he prove he was tough. Many times beating them but a few times several people had jumped him and beat him… he said he was always getting into fights… but he the went away he only heard he’d gone to the states. But he returned in the mid 60’s after he was married and he said he was totally different he seemed wiser and focused… he was also obsessed with Kung Fu.. he saw him a couple of times after but that’s the last he saw of him only seeing him in Big Boss. The guy ( don’t know his name said he moved to either Australia or Malaysia before coming to Uk )a few years later.. he didn’t really know a lot about Bruce’s later life but knew more about his formative years. The second guy was a guy I met in 2011-12 I was working in a boat yard In Southampton England.. my friend and I were messing about with some DIY Nanchukas!😂 A guy who worked in the yard Alan was walking past he stopped by started chatting as we had done many times.. then said I didn’t know you guys did all that Karate stuff… we asked him he he was into it. He said no But only really knew about it because of of Bruce Lee.. he casually told us that Bruce was a fascinating person and when he met him..!! What??!! You met him ? We asked yes he said several times. It turned out Alan did some electrical work for Stirling Silliphant. And was invited to some parties during the late 60’s there he saw Bruce surrounded by a group of celebrities amongst them was a guy who Alan didn’t know but could see and hear him saying things like Bruce wouldn’t be able to do this and that next minute he just heard a commotion and the guy was thrown in the air and on his back. Alan wasn’t sure what happened as there were some people in the way… But he said he heard different stories that evening from Bruce doing some judo or he was punching either way the guy got hurt. I doubt if he was making any stuff up.. as he was an elderly gent who was too detached from the martial art world to know some of the things he knew… about Bruce’s connections and friends like Steve McQueen and Coburn

I’m a big Superman fan!! 😁 he said.. Superman this guys real!! I was about 9 at the time and couldn’t comprehend! It was a few years later that watching a Saturday morning sports programme in the Uk which was called WORLD OF SPORTS where the announced that Kung Fu legend Bruce Lee had died. The showed some clips of his new movie Enter the Dragon. Another superb episode from Sifu Alex. Just imagine him, Sifu Eric, Richard Torres and Jesus in the same room doing a seminar. Going back to Wong Jack Man, it looks like he got involved to heighten his profile amongst the community. And got more than he bargained for. Also when people say a real fight, what does that actually mean? A fight over a parking space of a challenge to a street fight is only the ego fighting. A real fight is you protecting your life such as the guy taking the gun off the Monteray Park shooter. That's real fighting in my book. And as Sigung Richard said, "You want to be the one going home tonight." As you may have guessed Charles, if I quote anything I always try to name the source as I feel that's very important.😁🙏🐉

I read the story on David Chin's eyewitness account of the fight. Wong Jack Man was making rules because he thought this was going to be a demonstration of styles so to speak and Bruce said this is an everything goes fight. He did say Bruce won but it wasn't as quick as some were saying, it was very un-cinematic with a lot of running around but in the end David Chin admitted that Bruce was right regarding removing the mumbo jumbo classical moves and use only what is useful, which pissed a lot of martial artists off. Linda also said Bruce was bothered and disappointed that it took too long and he realized his conditioning was not as good as needed. Many give Wong Jack Man credit for bringing this to light for Bruce because from it birthed a much greater martial artist, many say the Greatest Of All Time.

I have got a word document of loads of the reports of Bruce Lee's street fights with the sources whether from books or documentaries. Most of it was done by a guy from Germany but I gave him some of the info. Bruce had a lot of street fights, some reports of him having a fight in Hong Kong with multiple guys. Also, I had seen a story of a fight with Bruce punching a guy in a car who had his head out of the window and Bruce back fisting him, supposedly witnessed by James DeMile. I'm so glad I emailed James probably a year before he passed and he told me, "didn't happen". So I contacted the German guy to update his record as that fight was fabricated.

Only so much: I mean great interview from you two, but i am so damn tired in new videos about "The Runner". The guy only is known because Junfan kicked his bu...tt, thats all. Nobody would ever have heard of him, and nobody would still talk about him. So let Wong Jackman be what he was, a liar, at least about this subject here. I hope in the future to see more videos about Bruce's fights with Nakachi, Yoichi. Or other guys like Lau, Daichuen. In my humble opinion, Mr. Nakachi is the one who deserves so much spotlight. He got beaten by Bruce in 11 seconds, 7 people witnessed the fight, including Jesse Glover and Ed Hart. And after his defeat, Yoichi even wanted to train with Bruce what some ppl say (i cant confirm it). But so or so it seems Yoichi was more of a man than Jackman, thats undeniable. I mean again: It was great watch, but i really hope Bruce Lee fans around the world to stop making new videos and discussions about Wong Jackman. Master Wong got enough spotlight in the past decades, its enough now! The two other great martial artist with surname Wong are Feihung and Shunleung, and those two really deserve the spotlight since they created themselfs, while Jackman was only created by Junfan/Bruce.

Hi Charles. I've always been interested in this part of Bruce Lee's life. So read a book by Rick Wing called "Showdown in Oakland" it's very well researched and detailed about the fight and events that lead up to it. It's easy to picture Bruce Lee as the legend from Enter The Dragon. But remember in 1964 he was 23/24. So wasn't the full product he later became. I think Wong JackMan gets alot of hate wrongly as he's pitted against the legacy of Bruce Lee whereas they had this clash when they were both in their early 20's. Some points to note is: (1).After the fight some newspapers in Chinatown interviewed both fighters and Wong JackMan gave his account and offered a public rematch if Bruce Lee disagreed with his version (there was no reply from Bruce Lee). (2). Also there was a story that Bruce approached one of WJMs teachers in Hong Kong who refused to show him any Northern Shaolin. (3). George Lee who was the guy who James Yim Lee gave the gun to (incase anything kicked off). Was outside whilst the fight was going on. Supposedly as Linda Lee was 8 months pregnant with Brandon at the time. She was present when the WJM camp came in and all the talking was going on. But Bruce sent her outside just before the fight started because of her condition (to George Lee). This is not an attempt to badmouth Bruce Lee in any way. It's just to give a more balanced view on what could have happened. And as none of us were present at the fight, we'll probably never have the definitive answer

I couldnt agree more with this comment. No disrespect intended. But what we have here is a 50 year old "event" where all the eyewitnesses are somewhat questionable in my opinion. The Lee family has a legacy, and a "legend" to protect. As do all the "anecdotal" commentators who never witnessed the "fight." One question I would like answered, (about WJM and all of BLs "fight" opponents) is "How Good" were they? How "good" was WJM? If he wasnt that good, then what's to brag about defeating him? And if he WASN'T that "good" and it still made Lee "change everything" he was doing, then what does that imply? And If he was " real good," then we should acknowledge that was good enough to make Bruce Lee question the validity of his skills and totally change everything that he had been doing up to that point. So ultimately "no" WJM, "no" "JKD." And, that in no way was this "fight" "EASY" for Bruce. One should be skeptical of all accounts of this encounter as each side has something significant to lose. If Linda Lee indeed went outside because she was pregnant, than her account can be called into question. And if at the time WJM challenged Bruce if he didnt agree with the story that was published in Chinatown papers, then what does that suggest, and who determines precisely what the correct facts are? I look at it like this: There was a physical altercation and the end result was Bruce Lee realized his skill at that point was inadequate. He was supremely disappointed with his performance and changed his outlook on everything he did. So "win or lose" he was not pleased with himself.
@naveedahmed3277 Жыл бұрын
In a letter written from Bruce Lee to Jimmy Lee on August 7, 1965, a few months after the fight, he wrote, “As for the “runner’s” gung fu school, it’s just another waste of time with a little bit more to offer ---- calisthenics! The more I think of him to have fought me without getting blasted bad, the more I’m pissed off! At 14:10 you said that “ if a Shaolin fighter 400 years ago fought a today’s MMA fighter, the MMA fighter will demolish the Shaolin fighter “ you are absolutely wrong, because the way that those Shaolin monks used to train and the amount of time that they used for training and way they were sparring is not comparable to today’s MMA fighters. Today’s MMA fighters are like little girls compared to those Shaolin fighters who used to eat, breathe and trained all their lives, for only one goal, to be a warrior not a wimp. Today’s MMA is a sport, Shaolin fighters were absolutely the killing machines. Chinese army used to ask Shaolins to help them fight the war with the enemy.

They used to pose a horse-stand for the whole day, almost nothing would hurt their legs or they used to use trees and other hard surfaces to bang their hands against them. Every parts of body felt like they were made out of steel or rocks.

@@CharlesDamianoBLC Another fact is that, Shaolin used to enroll their students at a very young age, as young as 3-4 years old. Imagine how strong they would became when they got older ? And injuries didn’t mean anything to them, they would continue practicing.

@@CharlesDamianoBLC The doctors said the hashish was the only common factor in both the May collapse and the July collapse. Not equagesic, they didn't even find cocaine or anything else in his system. Steroids weren't mentioned which is the theory of Bruce Cadwell. All he had in his stomach was cannabis leaves. To me he had an allergy to the cannabis, maybe the person he got it from gave him bad batches.

Linda Lee said something to the effect of Bruce Lee beating wong jack man into submission while he was down. Wong jack man worked at a restaurant and reportedly went to work the next day, the only visible damage to his face was said to have been a scratch over his eye where Lee attempted a finger jab at the begining of the fight. There were no other reported bruises on his face. There are inconsistencies with both sides. Wong jack man and Bruce Lee also met subsequent to the fight and man also requested that he and Lee settle it once and for all in public due to all the heresay that began circulating subsequent to the fight. That doesn't sound like the words of a person who ran and loss convincingly I'm more inclined to believe that this was a scrap between two young hot headed gentlemen. One with an aggressive forward pressure style the other with a long range counter attack style, neither professional fighters, neither probably able to control the situation in live chaotic combat as effectively as they wanted to believe. In the chaos of the situation. Wong jack man got a scratch on his head from a surprise eye gouge attempt and some say that Lee got a contusion on his neck probably due to a strike as it's possible that wong jack man wore a spiked bracelet. Some from wjm''s camp claimed that wong jack man attempted a headlock. Lee's camp refute that. There's heresay from both sides. Lee's side simply prevails because he became a cultural icon. What we do know is that the fight devolved to the ground as many fights do and Lee ended up on top. I dont think that this was the end for wong jack man. Some reports suggest that there was an attempt by wong to do some sort of frame technoque with either his arm or leg while in that position, while lee attempted to pound but the fight was called off as referee and/or onlookers realized that it had gone too far. Both wong and Lee continued to teach. If one had lost convincingly their students would loose all confidence in their instruction methods. No more school.

Toni thank you for sharing your thoughts I guess everyone has an opinion. To me, Bruce Lee is still the greatest of all time, and was indeed a real fighter and the real deal. By the way, have you read the book wrath of the Dragon, the real fights of Bruce Lee, by John Little. I was suggest picking it up. It is amazing and goes over all the real fights of Bruce Lee and you can judge yourself continued enjoyment on the channel. Be well and see you on Friday for the next feature episode. Take care.

Nowadays we see alot of revisionist history going on. People keep trying to twist stories years after the event and the masses believe it. Even the movie Karate Kid couldn't be left alone. They made the Cobra Kai series that completely shat on the first movie and made Daniel Larusso come across as the bad guy when he was clearly the one getting bullied. Another example is how they now like to make movies that show the story from the perspective of famous evil characters such as the movie 'Joker'. There are other examples too. They try and make us feel sympathy for the bad guys while they also show the good guys in a bad light. The people who run the film industry (we all know what group this is) want to help twist society so that they see good as bad and bad as good. The movie made about the Bruce Lee vs Wong Jack Man fight was bs as well.
