Both were liberal Protestant and Catholic and great Biblical scholars. Their conservative counterparts will be Ratzinger, DA Carson and JI Packer.

DA Carson is leading more towards liberals.

@@historytheology DA Carson has contributed to conservative study Bibles, unlike Bruce Metzger. But compared to RC Sproul and MacArthur he might be more liberal.

@@hassanmirza2392 Yes that’s probably right. Also Metzger had given conservative lectures, ironically about the preservation of the word of God (the Bible). But he was referring to the eclectic text, the UBS/NA ed.
