Magnificent historical recording of one of my Biblical New Testament hero scholars, likely the great of the 20th century. It seems that Dr. Metzger was both a scholar and a Christian. His intellectual integrity and respect of the Judeo-Christian traditions all shine forth in this lecture. Thank you.

What do you mean by he protects original? It disappeared 1900 years ago and is gone. They don't exist. How do you protect something that isn't extant? Will you please quote a Bible verse in any reply to this. Thanks

Being a devout Christian, he cannot help being emotional. At 22:00, he is trying to say that the absence (he doesn't say absence, he says variation as if some scribe just missed a letter) of 1-John 5:7 in earliest manuscripts is not a big issue. Well, it is. Because it is the only explicit trinity verse. Yes there are many other passages, where the three members of the trinity are mentioned. But trinity is not just the existence/mention of the three (btw, there are lots of other passages where "trios" other than trinity is mentioned together) . These three should be one. And 1-John 5:7 is the only place to say that these persons are one. Moreover, this shows the "variations" are not only due to scribes being short-sighted or sleepy, but also them inventing verses by themselves. How can you explain a verse popping up after so many centuries? If so, how can one be sure of absence of other similar inventions? Well, you can't be..

No, it is not a big issue. There are many places else where that instantiate the FACT of the Trinity, all Greek scholarship knows this. Your statement about 1 John 5:7 is incompetent. If you knew anything about the Greek mss through the centries you would know that NO GREEK MS CONTAINS THAT WORDING EXCEPT ONE MADE TO ORDER AFTER ERASMUS made the statement that if a ms containing that wording could be shown to him he would put it in his revised edition as he published 5 editions. People without knowledge do great harm to the body of the Anointed (Christ- the TRANSLITERATION of the Greek word XPISTOS meaning anointed). There are only marginal type notations before that in Latin, one made in the 17th century in another ms.

Did you not listen to Dr. METZGER. He actually reads the ancient mss.

Lil Christian the statement where the top scholar said the only verse that purports to teach the trinity does not exist!

The fact that we can say 1 John 5:7 probably isn't original shows that we CAN trust the Bible. True and good study went into these conclusions. When we say this or that verse isn't original, we imply that the rest of the Bible is self-evidently original.

If the Jehovah Witesses are wrong for introducing the word Jehovah with the letter "J" 237 times in the Biible, they it is equally wrong to write the name Jesus with the letter "J" 983 times in the Bible. There is no English letter "J" in Hebrew for neither our Heavenly Father or his only begotten son. In Hebrew, our Heavenly Father's name is YEHO-VAH, and he named His Son after Himself, YEHO-SHUA. Both of Hebrew names, NOT Gentile/Greek/Latin/English American names.

I paused when he spoke about the incident of the waman washing the feet of Jesus. Translators should not be allowed to interpret. In Luke 7:44-48, How does the woman know she is forgiven and and show much love by washing His feet? Jesus forgave her sins AFTER she showed much love by washing His feet. This does not mean she earned her forgiveness.
