The late 90s was an odd wrestling era for me. As a kid who grew up with Wrestling thanks to my Aunt who was a Hulkamaniac, so you can guess how early I was watching wrestling. So Wrestling is at an all-time high Bret goes to WCW I was at school I was one of the few kids (actually I was in my early teens) who even knew who these wrestlers were before everybody else started wearing their merchandise. So after the Montreal Screwjob, I was left without a favorite Wrestler in WWF. I struggled with trying to pick out basically another Bret, but then I thought what if I just go with what I know. At that point, Undertaker had been a successful wrestler and even respected. He still had a presence, and most of his matches were often a spectacle even before he became a legend. Without any influence, I had picked the Undertaker as my Wrestler. Because of this, I was sort of the odd man out since everybody went with who was popular (Stone Cold, DX, The Rock) then came the Ministry era. I grew up in something of a religious household and seeing Taker engage in what looked like a satanic ritual or a crucifixion was putting me at odds with my own personal convictions. It didn't help that at this time I started growing my hair long and some classmates nicknamed me Undertaker or Sting depending on what t-shirt I was wearing. Then when the corporate ministry angle happened it was really dumb to say the least. At some point, I just stopped watching until the Monday Night War ended and skipped most of the Ruthless Aggression era. I probably would've enjoyed American Badass Taker if they didn't Durst it up. Once Taker modernized his deadman persona I was back on board for him. By now all those kids have forgotten and donated those t-shirts they bought back in middle school. Me, I tune in and out, been watching less since Taker officially retired. Still, I've learned to spot botches and try to figure out what kind of style they're using. I've been liking how NJPW has their take on the sport still utilizing early-era wrestlers in some way but leave room for the new kids to shine and make new guys look less like Jobbers.

Hated his attire in the last 10 years. Should have gone back to the 1998 attire he wore against Kane at WM 14

Really wish someone had asked why taker was starting to wear the bandana and sunglasses during his tag team with big show. Like I know he wasn’t the American badass yet but was there something behind that?

I remember at the time as a teenager being into the Ministry of Darkness and the Satanic gimmick Taker was doing but I look back at it now and so much of it just embarrassing and cringeworthy. Dennis Knight on an altar in front of the live crowd and Taker "cutting" his hand with the fake blood-filled knife in a dark ceremony that turns him into Mideon, fucks sake, that had to be a Russo idea for as stupid as it was. I remember there also being an uproar about them crucifying Austin to the Undertaker symbol and raising him up in the air and then the attempted "unholy wedding" to Stephanie McMahon with her tied to the symbol, that was some more hokey bullshit. BUT... didn't matter at the time, the company was white hot in the biggest boom period for wrestling ever, they ultimately could do no wrong even when something came off horribly.
