What an awesome, perfect performance. Note the attention to detail (E.G., the 5 second pause at 3:57) And he brought THE guitar, the 1950s Fender, with a Telecaster body and an Esquire neck, that's on the cover of Born to Run, and that somewhere along the way picked up a chip. Too bad he never learned to play like the great guitarists (I hope it's obvious I'm joking.) Man, he does more than make that guitar talk, in this song he makes it scream. Perfect.
@marcvolgers83522 жыл бұрын
Pity in the "attention to detail" they leave out a 1/8 note every bar.... it's not in 4/4 but in 9/8 (5/8+4/8). If you mess that up, you can't say they have attention to detail. Probably 9/8 is too hard for them.
@taylorcutts Жыл бұрын
That guitar is a copy - much newer Fender custom Shop made to look similar to the original.
@Samester48 Жыл бұрын
@@marcvolgers8352interesting you mention that, I always assumed it was deliberate for an added effect on Springsteen’s more raw performance than Sting’s original (which I do also love)

@@Samester48 using raw as a euphemism for less musical skills, I'll have to keep that in mind🤣. But I'm biased, I'm much more impressed by Stings musical skills and songwriting. But then you maybe shouldn't cover a Sting song in an odd time signature.

This is the best cover Bruce has ever done. I'm a fan since 1974 and was totally unaware of this tune or this performance. I have watched it over and over. It is flawless. The lyrics are borrowed from Bruce's Nebraska LP. Maybe that is why Bruce took ownership of it during this performance. The band is exceptional and clearly aware of their epic performance. There are smiles all around. Is that David Sancious on keyboards? Bruce can play lead when he wants to.

Rarely do I "discover" a new tune, 4 me, & just sit & listen & play. Over.....over.....over n over. This tune I heard 1st at The Kennedy Center Honors. Bruce did a shorter version at Sting's induction. So, I figure it's a Sting tune, find it, play it, & it's ok. I see Cash has it covered plus another band that's younger than 50, as best as I can do. lol-lol ANYWAYS, I don't listen to their;s just this one. Loud. Then LOUDER.........I dunno, something about it besides awesome lyrics, bassline, then, WHOEVER the song belongs to......."lost" it when Bruce emptied the tank on both searing, shredding, bad-assed stamp of HIS own on that lil' geetar he packs round with him. Man!! Love Cash but I don't wanna pit these 2 gems against each other......sorta. Not really because Cash cannot be moved from his eternal Post. Maybe 1 day......just not now. This is so fresh, vibrant & makes me wanna just feel 20 again yet have the sense of caring, love, feelings 4 my fellow men n women. Didn't have that so much in my 20's n 30's. After about 30 odd yrs. his music which I listen to....intently at times, what riff? That's Bruce's influence on me over the yrs. Thanks.........a better man now. C'mon up 4 The Rising. :))
