When I first time heard his song "Street of Philadelphia" this song shocked me, nevertheless i didnt know English at all. I was looking for the singer and found his album at the tape. Thankfully his song I loved American music and even now two of my favourite is "Street of Philadelphia" and Hurt of amazing Johnny Cash. I grew up in Soviet Union and actually before hated everything that connect with U.S and was struck when heard that music 'cause so many soul in so deep it is. With love from Russia and KentuckY =)

Bruce Springsteen, according to American Veteran Ron Kovic, was the first American celebrity of any type to do a benefit for Vietnam Veterans. Kovic also said that no American has contributed more money and time to the cause of helping Vietnam Vets than Bruce. Even in 1979, they were still spat on by many people in our society. Bruce has been doing this since his first album at a time when he slept on the ground in a surfboard factory. He didn't do it to fit in with Hollywood Celebs or to squash his guilt over the money he actually wouldn't make for the next 12 years. His father lost all of his hearing in a non-unionized plastics factory. He was a bi polar manic depressant and drunk who beat his kids. His mom worked four jobs. Both sides of the family basically lived in the same area in Freehold, and no one ever saw $20 in any one place. Many meals were skipped. They were impoverished, and to this day, Bruce writes from the entirety of his experience. You do not forget half your life just because you become a millionaire one day. He writes everyday to honor his parents, his aunts and uncles, his cousins, friends of the family and all those who had to unnecessarily struggle in a society that is so wealthy and can do so much to help working people in need. The man is an American hero who gives hope everyday to cab drivers, people who install windshields, and car mechanics. These people go to his shows and get told, "You are the engine that runs our society." They for once get a message that their lives have value and aren't shit. Someone needs to tell the folks who Mitt Romney considers scum that their lives have value.

Too many of my Republicans family, friends, and non-friends-I’v been an independent since ‘16-left Bruce when he came out supporting a Democratic. Yet, his music is right down the center of America, or any country (No wonder Jeep had him do the commercial during the Super Bowl, to try and pull us back together.). He’s supported more Vets than anyone over 50 years (that’s not just a Conservative thing, that’s an American thing. He’s self critical (…”in my own piece of dirty ground…”) humble beyond just a Christian (walk the streets of his hometown and everything is a stones throw from Saint Rose a Lima; it went down so deep he can’t leave the shirt open for more than 5-8 seconds after ripping it open on the current tour-ever the modest Catholic). I’m glad that the higher brow Country singers get Bruce (Eric Church in his song “Springsteen,” and the note Bruce wrote to him afterwards which is in his vault, to Faith Hill’s husband talk of healthy lifestyle with Bruce). I’ll stop there, as I’m getting pretty deep. Thanks Matt for setting it straight about the American Bruce that is honored here. Any president could have down that, Obama just stepped up and did it.
