Thank you Patti Smith -- you wrote a freaking rock and roll anthem. Even the modern day gods of rock are singing your song. Rappers are singing your song. Country artists are singing your song. The freaking audience is singing your song. How cool is that for a Chicago born - New Jersey raised bohemian poet who is the greatest living female rock vocalist? Even the BOSS is singing your song. It's BETTER than a Grammy Award Patti. You matter more than most could ever know.

You put that MOST BRILLIANTLY!!.Patti Smith and her late husband truly wrote/recorded THE rock ANTHEM of ALL TIME!! God Bless you, Patti and Fred Smith!!
@jujumulligan43 Жыл бұрын
Pattie and her husband Sonic Smith actually wrote that song together!
@lastrada52 Жыл бұрын
Someone named Isabel Duignan replied (hidden post) that this song was co-written by Bruce Springsteen. That's not so Isabel. Not this one -- it was written only by Patti & Fred "Sonic" Smith. You must be getting it confused with the song Patti did co-write with Bruce and that would be "Because The Night."

I LOVE this performance by all these great artists. This song is very empowering & uplifting. Each person can make a difference. Even better, when it's a group of people. The more, the better. This song should be the motivational song for people to help out the victims of Hurricane Sandy AND also for people to get out there on November 6th to vote on Election Day or do early voting. This is THE song to listen to right now - matches what is happening here right now in the U.S.

OK OK OK what just wait just wait what do I have to do to get a copy of this concert the whole thing it’s just it’s just life-changing. Geez, Bruce and all your friends I seen like concerts 65 if I had seen this, I think I’ve had a spiritual, emotional awakening epiphany. It’s enough to make me want to buy tickets for his next concert and hopefully get my daughter to go. It would be life-changing for her at 18 to see something like this life

Based on watching this video only 2 times, I see Michael Stipe, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, John Cougar Mellencamp, Bonnie Raitt, the Dixie Chicks, Kenny Babyface Edmonds, John Fogerty, Dave Matthews, some E Street Band members - Bruce's wife, Patti Scialfa, Max Weinberg, some REM members. I can't see all the people in the back of the stage. The part that stumps me is the 2:37 to 2:58 section. I have no clue who those four male artists are. Anyways, those who attended this event were lucky!

Haha, yes! At first I was like, who even is this clown? I get that it's live and it won't all be perfect, that's all part of the charm of a live performance, but he was comically bad with the timbre of a Dave Matthews caricature and completely out of rhythm.

This should be titled "Michael Stipe and friends - People Have the Power" since Patti was such an influence and he sings most of the vocals here, with so much feeling. Spriingsteen co-wrote "Because the Night" not PHTP. That said, where IS Patti?
@GeorgenotSmith9 жыл бұрын
Perhaps Patti didn't support the occasion, or had a conflicting date...

GeorgenotSmith she was there. She may have felt she wasn't in good voice. I've seen her so many times and in 2004 she did apologize for not being in good voice so maybe for this larger, televised event, she felt the same so didn't perform. ?

Kittenfuud I hadn't known that. Thanks for the info. I leave it to Patti to decide whether or not she's in sufficiently good enough voice.

GeorgenotSmith your welcome! Funny story: 2000 Gung Ho tour she played Seattle's outdoor amphitheater. My kids were little and oldest snuck off. He was 9 so not a huge deal, friends in the crowd and all, but a half hr later I was frantic. Suddenly out comes Patti w my son in hand and calling for me to come get "this guy who's been entertaining the band backstage!" Chip off the old block! I love that story, I was so proud.

Says "People Have the Power.." Patti Smith also says to "Use your voice" and vote. Think the point is like in the Doors song Five to One, "They've got the guns but..we've got the numbers. Come on we're taking over..come together one more time..." we already have the power.
