RIP Mrs. Springsteen... I just cried as I remembered bringing my mom to see Bruce when I was in high school... One of my most precious memories

His "throw-away" songs, ones that never made it to an album are better than most singer/songwriters best work. ("The Wish," was eventually on Tracks (1998), a four CD compilation that included 66 songs.) His mother must be very, very proud. He took her to the Academy Awards when he won, Best Original Song, for "Streets of Philadelphia," but his Dad, who *very* strongly discouraged him from a career as a muscian, stayed home. When they returned, his father said, finally, "OK, I was wrong."

Actually (according to Bruce's memoir) what Bruce's dad said when he saw him after winning the Oscar was "I'll never tell anyone what to do again".

Such a personal song, but everyone can connect with it. As already said, a song that never made it to an album, but still better than most songs released now. If you can fit that much emotion into a discard song, you know it's a work of a genius.

Damn you Bruce Springsteen!!! Making me cry in the middle of a weekday morning! At least I'm home alone where no one can see. And how young he sounded compared to now.

Bruce is Very special and close to my heart as I grew up THE SAME TIME as he was only 38 miles away to the east because Freehold is a straight line due east from Trenton ! His word pictures are my childhood ! He is THE sound of New Jersey in the 60s and 70s !
@michaelrmurphy2734 Жыл бұрын
I've been to New Jersey. I LIKE New Jersey! I can see why its called the Garden State. We were there from Canada for a wedding. It was one of the most remarkable times I had.

"If pay's eyes were the windows into a world so deadly and true, you couldn't stop me from looking, but you kept me from crawlin' through"...WOW! Legendary rocky relationship with his Dad...he said it has led to so much fodder for his lyrics. If he'd had a great relationship, "What would I write about?" As they reconciled, he asked Dad which songs he liked best..."The ones about me!"

Bruce learned the piano before he learned the guitar. He has also written many of his greatest songs from the piano. All the songs on Born to Run were written from the piano.

LMAOF...there's simply no better song writer. He's a better piano player than guitar player! So much talent bestowed upon one person and inspired by the great Elvis. Thank you God for giving us another great singer, song writer performer.

yes I do love Mr. bruce springsteen and this is a lovely song I only just heard. I heard his mom put his guitar on lay away, back when they had that. best fellow Springsteen fans, keep the faith

ONce read that when he put the Oscar on the table, his Dad said, "I'll never tell anyone what to do again". Bruce has said that as a father, he understands his Dad's feelings about his choice of careers...no stability or guarantee....

Calle vieja y sucia toda derretida bajo la lluvia y la nieve Dirty old street all slushed up in the rain and snow Un niño pequeño y su mamá temblando afuera de la ventana de una tienda de música deteriorada Little boy and his ma shivering outside a rundown music store window Esa noche en lo alto de un árbol de Navidad brilla una hermosa estrella That night on top of a Christmas tree shines one beautiful star Y acostado debajo de una nueva guitarra japonesa And lying underneath a brand-new Japanese guitar Recuerdo en la mañana, ma, escuchar sonar tu despertador I remember in the morning, ma, hearing your alarm clock ring Me acostaría en la cama y escucharía cómo te preparas para el trabajo I'd lie in bed and listen to you gettin' ready for work El sonido de tu estuche de maquillaje en el fregadero. The sound of your makeup case on the sink Y las damas en la oficina, todo lápiz labial, perfume y faldas susurrantes And the ladies at the office, all lipstick, perfume and rustlin' skirts Y que orgullosa y feliz siempre te veías caminando a casa del trabajo And how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work Si los ojos de papá fueran ventanas a un mundo tan mortal y verdadero If pa's eyes were windows into a world so deadly and true No pudiste evitar que mirara, pero evitaste que me arrastrara You couldn't stop me from looking but you kept me from crawlin' through Y si es un viejo mundo divertido, mamá, donde los deseos de un niño pequeño se hacen realidad And if it's a funny old world, mama, where a little boy's wishes come true Bueno, tengo algunos en mi bolsillo y uno especial solo para ti. Well I got a few in my pocket and a special one just for you No es una llamada telefónica el domingo, flores o una tarjeta del día de la madre. It ain't no phone call on Sunday, flowers or a mother's day card No es una casa en una colina con un jardín y un pequeño patio agradable It ain't no house on a hill with a garden and a nice little yard Tengo mi coche de carreras en Bond Street, soy mayor pero me conocerás de un vistazo I got my hot rod down on Bond Street, I'm older but you'll know me in a glance Nos buscaremos un pequeño bar de rock 'n roll y bebé saldremos a bailar We'll find us a little rock 'n roll bar and baby we'll go out and dance Bueno, fui yo con mis botas Beatle, tú con rulos rosas y pantalones de matador Well it was me in my Beatle boots, you in pink curlers and matador pants Levantándome en el sofá para hacer el giro para mis tíos y tías Pullin' me up on the couch to do the twist for my uncles and aunts Bueno, encontré una chica propia ahora, mamá, hice la pregunta en tu cumpleaños Well I found a girl of my own now, ma, I popped the question on your birthday Se quedó esperando en el porche delantero mientras me decías que saliera. She stood waiting on the front porch while you were telling me to get out there Y decir qué era lo que tenía que decir And say what it was that I had to say Anoche todos nos sentamos a reír de las cosas que nos trajo la guitarra Last night we all sat around laughing at the things that guitar brought us Y me quedé despierto pensando en las otras cosas que nos ha traído And I laid awake thinking 'bout the other things it's brought us Bueno, esta noche estoy tomando las solicitudes aquí en la cocina. Well tonight I'm takin's requests here in the kitchen Este es para ti, mamá, déjame salir y decirlo This one's for you, ma, let me come right out and say it Está atrasado, pero cariño, si estás buscando una canción triste, bueno, no la voy a tocar. It's overdue, but baby, if you're looking for a sad song, well I ain't gonna play it
