We lost a cousin, Paul Beyer, who was in the second (North) tower when it collapsed. He was on the job with the FDNY, heading up the stairs to fight the fire and rescue civilians on the upper floors. I first became a fan 40+ years ago in college and with all the great music since, he’s still my favorite. If anything, he’s become more open and humane over the years. I miss the young Bruce with all the swagger of youth, but this Bruce, this older man who has seen life for what it is and is still this beautiful human being, this Bruce gives me faith in humanity.
