Grand Seiko is on another level with finishing . Stunning 😍

I have the SBGA427 version that has the Green seconds hand and it is stunning. When you wear a GS the light just reflects off of almost every surface. Along with the absolutely mesmerizing sweep, it's such a joy to wear. It's like wearing a work of art on your wrist.

I wear my watches carefully but without worry. Of my 12 watches 11 of them look fantastic just little tiny imperfections here and there but my GS (SBGE249) to your point looks like it went through a blender on the bezel. To be fair it's probably gotten the most wrist time of my watches in the last 2-3 years but still I look at it in disbelief how it got so bad sometimes. Luckily it's a keeper and doesn't bother me but to someone that would bother be veryyyy careful wearing because apparently a strong wind will hairline the bezel

Very beautiful watch! Grand Seiko has always been on my radar just for the level of finishing they go to on their pieces. I've also noticed Grand Seiko popping up more and more on watch channels. Good for GS, not for the collector. Prices will be going up! Really enjoy your channel! 🍻
@BruceWilliams2 жыл бұрын
They've really been stepping up their products. Sadly the prices going up will be inevitable. Thank you!

That is simply a beautiful watch. The bracelet as well. A perfect dress piece.
@robertschmidt95842 жыл бұрын
Bracelets of GS need work, lots of work. At Lear a micro adjustment. Until then, many of the GS owners will compromise their pieces on a strap.

Gs really do make beautiful time pieces. I'm lucky enough to own the sbga415. I purchased it on Nov 7th last year and in that time it has only gained 2 seconds, simply amazing accuracy 👌

I think it's a great watch. One thing I appreciate is the stark contrast of the blue seconds hand with the white dial. Very important because it excentuates the glorious spring drive sweep of that seconds hand. They made the mistake on the SBGE275 new release by using a silver seconds hand against a white dial that is not as prominent. The power reserve indicator does not bother me. When you look at the total package, GS can't be beat and minor imperfections are not hard to overlook. GS does it their way - and it works very well, IMHO. Great Review.

Stunning watch. If I were an owner of a GS, my only fear would be when it came to servicing having to send it to the butchers at Seiko Service in Mahwah, NJ.
@markhellie68372 жыл бұрын
If you can get one, an SLGA013 is the coolest spring drive watch out there. A little pricey (but not VC pricey), but unlikely to decrease much in value. Great dial and the new 5-day spring drive movement.
@theenavybluemonster2 жыл бұрын
Beautiful watch! I don’t mind getting scratches on my GS SBGH201 because the dial is the main show and that just stays perfect. As far as their bracelets go, their comfy and look good to me. But I prefer to wear mine on different straps and I really think that’s what GS want you to do as well. Gonna fight the urge to get another GS for awhile. But when I do, it will be a Spring Drive.
@BruceWilliams2 жыл бұрын
Same here. I want a Spring Drive next!
@SinnerAndSaint2 жыл бұрын
Imho the GS finishing is amongst the highest possible out there - no matter at which pricepoint! This is truly impressive regarding the quite high numbers they're producing. That's one of the main reasons I really love this brand. Another one are these creative and beautiful dials! And with their new movements they REALLY upped their game in this regard as well! Of course GS also have their downsides as Bruce stated in the video as well but nevertheless they are one of my favorite brands EVER - period.

Stunningly beautiful watch. But I agree with your assessment of the amount of high polish surface and how prone it will be for scratches. It isn't a tool or sports watch and they will not look good. However, I do love the power reserve indicator.

I want to be that guy GS pays and sends out into nature, probably high off something, to come up with philosophical metaphors for their dial designs. In the mean time, I'll admire their fine watches as a watch enthusiast and consumer. This is a another nice one 👍 I think GS would do well to consider a PR viewed from an exhibition case back, instead, moving forward. Keeps their famously excellent dials clean and from being needlessly interrupted. Yet, you still get the PR complication on the back along with the movement where I think it makes more sense and the only time you may care to even check it. You really don't need to see it on the dial 24/7 if you keep the watch on wrist long enough. I don't think you need Credor or high horology level of watchmaking to have a practical PR on the case back.

I tried some GS watches on the wrist just last Sunday, the titanium seems very light and cheap, all bracelets are poor but finish and dials are stunning! The case is squat and often the bezels seem just plonked on top with little profile over all not for me BUT great work as always Bruce, thank you.
@rousseau3272 жыл бұрын
The titanium is light, but not cheap. You're simply used to equating weight with quality.
@gorillaofjohn15 Жыл бұрын
Titanium is meant to be light. And you are equating lightness with cheapness when the opposite is true. Also, you need to understand that strictly speaking, many GS watches are designed to be without a bezel at all. Meaning it is straight from case to glass. This is a nod back at the classic earlier designs. You may not like it, but it is not a quality issue.

Thanks for another great video Bruce. Wondering if it would be worthwhile for all those on the fence like me with grand Seiko to do a video and go over spring drive versus a Traditional mechanical movement. Personally I’m very hesitant with the spring drive.

@kjakan792 жыл бұрын
Bruce I have to ask. GS dials are amazing. Why cant they do a bracelet with a nice taper, a clasp with adjustments. And make the tolerance like, you know. We dont want to see light comming in between the lugs and the bracelet. This is what all the rolex crowd including me is hoping GS will do next.
@BruceWilliams2 жыл бұрын
The 9 series bracelet is a good step in that direction. I don't know that they ever will go for that swiss feel though

I went back and forth between this Soko Frost and the Midnight blue sunburst dial version (SBGA375) and I went with the latter because the sunburst just has more depth to the dial versus the vertically brushed Soko. Also, I don't play into the marketing game of regional editions by paying $800 more dollars for essentially the same watch. I'm honestly not drawn to limited editions at all, it turns me away because I want to buy the watch that speaks to me the most and not one that is artificially made scarce.
@davidbreckler53272 жыл бұрын
Yeah...the better the watch the less i wear them. I really don't want to scratch my 1 and only GS... it is prefect!

Love Grand Seiko but if you have a Snowflake, Lake Suwa, White Birch etc. Is there really any need to get another one? People say Rolex doesn't do anything new but my goodness Grand Seiko could use some different designs. Their entire catalog outside of the GMT's seems like the same watch.
@rousseau3272 жыл бұрын
Different dial colors, textures, case shape, and movement combinations, how is it possible you're equating this with what Rolex is doing? If Grand Seiko were to go any further, people would then be saying they don't have a brand identity. Sticking to their classic case designs while making changes in movement and dial is a great balance of maintaining brand identity and not staying in one place for too long.

@rousseau3272 жыл бұрын
How small do you want them? The Evolution 9 collection is 40mm and under 12mm thick. The Heritage collection range from 40mm-41mm and 12mm-14mm for the most part, depending on complications. Their Elegance collection has watches from 37mm to 41mm, and 11-14mm thick depend on complications and case style. All in men's styles. Their Sport Collection is still admittedly large, but they've also taken steps to reduce the size with their latest GMTs.
@iamthelaw692 жыл бұрын
The truth is probably something in the middle - they probably do take inspirations from nature for the original dial pattern/stamping, and then make up some haiku junk to justify different colors of the same dial pattern.
@valengreymoon56232 жыл бұрын
I wish they would stop putting the power meter on the dial. That really ruins it. If you're wearing it, why would you need said meter anyway? It has a display back, so they could just as easily put it back there, and leave that lovely dial un-broken.
@jonathanjoseph75912 жыл бұрын
They have stopped putting it on the front of the dial! This specific model they chose to still put it up front but there are many options that GS offers that has the power reserve on the back
