I had a lot of Karajan on vinyl back in the 70s. He is always good.

The true Genuine Professional. I am convinced that Karajan, along with his ally Dr.Böhm, was a rare person who perfectly embodied the "true, good, and beautiful" and "mind, skill, and body" of being a conductor without score at the all actual performance on stage.

Beauty and majesty! Von Karajan was born after Bruckner died but, you'd swear, they discussed how this was to be done.

36'20" gorgeous example of Karajan's capacity of spacialising sound. This tutti is not abruptly frontal like by most conductors, but clearly evokes an infinite musical horizon that depicts the geographical depth and perspective of an epic landscape.

Among many conductore I feel that Karajan gives me most in concert and opera. For me he is The Maestro Condctor of the 19 centry.

There are people who say bad things about Karajan but there is a saying “envy is the companion of honour”. His achievement was to have invited so many new people to the circle of music without deteriorating the quality of the music.

Only Karajan and only the Vienna Philharmonic use the double timpani roll at 22:49... It gives such a brutal sound and Karajan shows it so well!!!

Is anyone else driven insane by the constant repetitions and sequences? Don't get me wrong, I do love this music. He has wonderful moments, but the sequences sometimes just get to me.
@karldelavigne81343 жыл бұрын
Walk down the nave a great cathedral. You will see repetitions in the structure everywhere, arch after arch, column after column... It is part of the process of creating a monumental structure. Just allow yourself to waft along with the sequences as if they bear you aloft and propel you along. Failing that, try smoking something.

Now that's a very personal take but as a fan of metal as a teenager, repetitive heavy riffs were the norm to me. Maybe if you could link it with repetitive music that you like it could help you digest it better.

@stefanobanfi37844 жыл бұрын

While I agree with every enthusiastic comment on this beautiful performance, I can't fail to express my disappointment on hearing those several flagrant "clams" by the first horn, and in such sensitive moments.,,, It was unacceptable, to say the least, from a principal player in a great orchestra.
There are now, but when this was recorded, the Vienna Philharmonic did not admit any women in their ranks. I think they were forced to end this after Austria joined the European Union and the government threatened to cut off funding.
