These have been excellent reflections I have been binge watching. I agree and disagree about many things. I love it spurring ideas. I hope you continue doing this with the other book on the Sermon on the Mount.

I love the subject of this book. I'm struggling through this book for two years now, because it is in english. But I will not stop until I read it all. I wish it was in my language, it would be so much easier to read!!

I am sometimes torn between helping someone and not wanting to be codependent or encouraging self-reliance. I love being connected to the wider world but struggle with this one aspect of helping.

Alot of people look at the Amish and Hutterites like many aspects of their communities but those communities are closed. Outsiders generally cannot join. We need more groups like them but open to those outside that want to join.

When you say sometimes you wonder if this (community) is really necessary? ...I'm sure it may be hard at times, but you all are together and that is a very good and Godly thing. This selfie world is just terrible and every imaginable negative emotion is associated with it. So I think how you live is absolutely necessary. I hope some day i may be blessed enough to be called to it!

The quotes all seem to be about isolation. I think individualism and isolation go together. I also think it is one of the causes of the anger that has become so prevalent in today's society. I am a natural introvert, so it might require extra work to live in community. But what would be exciting is that we are all supposed to be working to please God. And I think this would make it easier to live in community; you are doing it for God.

This I think is the difference between the Bruderhof and utopian societies, the presence of the transcendent alongside the imminent. God with us, Immanuel.

"Inward transformation" I think is a big point. I think its nearly impossible to stand tall in community, if I have no strong self-confidence.
@GreenJack451
@GreenJack451 2 жыл бұрын
And "standing tall" for me means not to be perfect or genius but to be aware of my own fallibility and still be sure that I belong and want to belong to the community.

Thank you for starting this series. I enjoyed your series on Intentional Community and am sure I will enjoy this one as well. My particular problem is the fear of not being in control. So, this passage in this chapter really struck home: "He heaps up riches by himself and thinks, ‘How strong I am now and how secure,’ and in his madness he does not understand that the more he heaps up, the more he sinks into self-destructive impotence." (I assume taken from the parable in Luke 12:16-21)

Hello. Is there a place I can go to find the series in order of the chapters in the book. I am, for example, finding it hard to find the podcast on the chapter entitled “embodiment”. Is there an easy way to search for and find the list?

This is so well timed! I've bought this on my Kindle a few weeks ago, so I will backtrack to keep in line with you. However, there is a problem I need to discuss. I particularly enjoy the sections byJean Vanier...but after a bit of research found this 2020 report - 'Vanier had engaged in "manipulative and emotionally abusive" sexual relationships with six women in France, between 1970 and 2005. Sexual relations were instigated by Vanier, usually in the context of giving spiritual guidance' (Wikipedia) Vanier died in 2019. Does this devalue his writings and work?
@Bruderhof
@Bruderhof 2 жыл бұрын
That's an important question. The revelations about Vanier were a shock and it's difficult to engage in his written work in the light of them. The way I think about this type of situation is that what was good in a person's life was a result of God's work and that can never be negated. We''re going to be jumping over the Vanier passages in the book though. Hope you read along with us! - Rich

@@Bruderhof I'm trying to balance with 'he who is without sin, cast the first stone' and David/Bathsheba. Forgiveness was sought, God worked with the situation and Solomon was the result. A high point in Israel's history.
When it's a sin to say "don't worry"
