I am thankful to have seen one of your youtube ads that led me to your channel. Being part of a local church body, where everyone has their own individual lives, I find it difficult to live out the biblical church example. How can I and my brother 'be one,' when my life struggles are not his? For example, watching some members take fancy vacations while at the same time a disabled member is unable to put food on their family's table - to me, makes it difficult to 'run the race' together as one. Community living takes down the barriers of the haves and the have nots. I like what I see - thanks for the info.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. The challenges you describe are of the same kind that led me and others here to want to try and do something different. Of course life together is only possible with God's help and it can be challenging at times, human nature being what it is. But it's 100% worth it and we're excited to share it. Please know you'd be welcome to visit any one of our communities. Info here: www.bruderhof.com/en/visit-us. All the best! Laura

Another excellent video and topic. I agree with Charles, that there is something dysfunctional about people saying they are Christians but not wanting to share their lives with others. "By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." (1 John 3:16). How can we say we are willing to literally lay down our lives for others if we are not willing to spend our lives (time) with our brothers and sisters right now? Living in community is not easy, and as Laura said, it goes against our selfish nature. But if we are sincere about following Christ, we cannot ignore that at the core of His teachings is His new commandment to love one another as He loved us, and we cannot sincerely say we are obeying this if we run away from community life.

Hi Paul. The thing about living in community is that it is part of God's gift to help our weak faith. We do not live in community because we have great faith... perhaps the opposite may be true. By having continual support from our brothers and sisters in Christ, we strengthen our faith and are able to resolve many issues that we could easily keep in the dark being on our own. Living in community does mean exposing ourselves to correction and letting others see us at our worst, but we cannot afford to "run away from the light lest our deeds be exposed". We have to come to the light, expose our evil works, confess, repent and be healed. And you can be sure that wherever two or three live in unity with Christ's teachings, that Jesus Himself is present, working through the body of believers to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and to purify us so that we can partake of his holiness.

Dear Bruderhof members, My question today stems from a news story from several years ago, where it was alleged that a leader or leaders at one of the Bruderhof communities was using electronic surveillance to tap phones and spy on community members. I have a lot of respect for your way of life, and don't expect any community to be perfect or free of mistakes, so this is not a judgment. I just want to know how this situation was handled and resolved so that the community could move on. Thank you as always for considering my questions.

Interesting conversation and perspective. That said, I would like to respectfully disagree with his premise about his seeming equation of 'true faith' with 'doing so ONLY in community'. There are those of us who truly do not feel comfortable with having interactions with others all the time and actually may have some sensory issues that preclude that much 'intrusion' on our personal space and time. Not wanting to live with someone underfoot in community all the time does not mean I am any less committed to the word or work of Jesus. Sometimes ya just gotta do your own thing by yourself and then can give more effectively and truthfully of your time and attention. Thanks for this different view of what community means. I don't completely disagree with his position, but do hope he considers that there is more than one way to be in community. Otherwise, it can be a slippery slope to culthood if you are only allowed one way of looking at things.

Hi Mary- Totally agree that there is more than one way to be in community. Main thing is that we who believe in Jesus seek to come closer to one another as he prayed for.

God is sovriegn! Having stated this, no one has the moral superiority to say that another person who loves Christ, because they do not live in a Bruderhauf or other community that they are not a true Christian. God sends out people to be salt and light in many divers way. Living in community is a biblical ideal, but for most Christians unattainable because of circumstances.

I can't help but feel there is a bit of confusion in this video by not clarifying the difference between a formal community, such as Bruderhof, and more informal communities of just Christian friends or even churches. Not everyone can belong to a formal community, yet every Christian is called to be a true brother and sister to their sisters and brothers in Christ and to be a neighbor, Good Samaritan, to those who may not even be if the body of Christ.
@Bruderhof
@Bruderhof 6 жыл бұрын
You make a good point about the difference between informal and formal community. On a subjective, experiential level one may indeed experience various levels of community with others. The real question, however, is: What does it mean to be the church? A loose set of intermittent relationships is not the same thing as being loyally bound together, as an intact Body, in Christ. To be church together is to demonstrate our loyalty to Christ and one another in terms of commitment and costly care. Jesus laid down his life for us, do we really do this for one another every day? - Charles

@@Bruderhof Yet the Lord taught us to be in the world, not of the world. Separating yourselves from society seems a repudiation of the "great commission" wherein we are called to evangelize the whole world, not set ourselves up in isolated communities, while waiting for the unwashed masses to come to us.

@@Bruderhof, but Jesus did not just minister to those in a community bound by common belief and practice; he taught love for neighbor that goes far beyond bounds of belief and practice. I so appreciate the Bruderhof’s ethic of radical care in community, but I do not see it as the only concept of community that aligns to Jesus’ life and teachings. There are faithful Christians living in obedience to the law of love who understand and practice community in many different ways. Just my perspective and given with appreciation for the conversation….

BIBLE 🌈 TALK the early church wasn't exactly a commune they didn't live in the same building or anything but they did function as a serious community the people who had money shared with those who didn't the Bible says there was no poverty in the early church because they took care of each other Think what it was like to walk in there shoes Jesus had just turned there world upside down with their very own eyes they had watched him go back into heaven they knew for real that this world was not their home-that heaven was- so they didn't feel ownership over things and money and houses they shared everything How do you think that would work for the church today? The above is a quote from my Bible

but how do you know that you are in the correct religion? just because charles moore and you were born into a community that thinks that the bible is the book that you should read doesnt make it the correct or the only one. there are ~4300 different religions in the world. does that mean 4299 religions are the incorrect ones to be a part of. if your god is so all knowing, why did s/he make so many incorrect ones then. Jesus was jewish. so shouldnt chistians be following him?

I took the liberty of researching the answers to your questions. I found them in the Bible. Q: How do you know you are in the correct religion? A: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused." Romans 1:20‭-‬21 NLT Q (implied): Is the Bible reliable? A: "Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. 2 They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. 3 Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, 4 so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught." Luke 1:1-4 "For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes" 2 Peter 1:16 "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right." 2 Timothy 3:16 Q (implied): Does God only have one Truth He wants us to follow? A: Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6 18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. John 3:18-20 Q: Did God make the incorrect religions? A: “You must not have any other god but me. “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected-even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me." Exodus 20:3‭-‬5 "Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies." Romans 1:21‭-‬24 Q: Jesus was Jewish. So shouldn't Christians be following Him? A: "16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes-the Jew first and also the Gentile. 17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” Romans 1:16-17 2 Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3 I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. 4 For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. 5 But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. Galatians 5:2-5 Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. Romans 3:19‭-‬20 NLT "But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past," Romans 3:21‭-‬25 NLT bible.com/bible/116/rom.3.21-25.NLT
