Bruichladdich 2008 Bere Barley is an Islay whisky that has been produced using Bere barley, which is a rugged barley that can grow in the toughest of conditions - perfect for Scotland. This whisky is presented naturally and bottled at 50% ABV. It originally cost around £70 when it first relased.

Bruichladdich usually (if not always?) states "unpeated" fairly prominently on the label/box. With Bunnahabhain, it depends on the particular bottling, but Julieann Fernandez, the Master Blender, stated (on a vPub?) that Bunnahabhain 12 is unpeated. Of course, Port Charlotte and Octomore ARE peated, but (at least until recently) even for the Islay barley that was done near Inverness using Aberdeenshire peat, which is why they don't have some of the more typical Islay flavours...

@@andrewbutler7681 all interesting stuff, appreciate the insight. Yeah, I thought Bruichladdich was unpeated but I always get confused. I couldn't see anything obvious on the label/tin. I probably need to look harder 😅

I have had hit/miss with both the bere barley and the islay barley. That said, I enjoy Bruichladdich a lot! Thanks for sharing.

@@WhiskyNeighbour it's a distillery I've rarely interacted with. This whisky will now have a spot on my shelf, and depending on how it goes, I reckon I'll be buying more Bruichladdich. Cheers 👍

As far as I understand, these Bere Barley releases can be a bit challenging. Never tried one myself yet, though, but I actually do have a 20 cl bottle of this 2008 Bere Barley release in a 3x20 cl bottle set (Organic Barley 2009 and Islay Barley 2010 being the other 2), so it's gonna be interesting to taste as I generally find Bruichladdich quite nice, albeit not one of my top favourite distilleries.
