I became a hockey fan during the 1968-69 season and suffered through what seemed like an endless number of heartbreaking Bruins playoff losses to Montreal. Watching this game was one of the happiest moments of my life as a sports fan. Thanks for posting it.

Same story for me. After the game I wrote a letter to Terry Orielly along with a little gift. A few days later he called me on the phone to thank me(i had included a business card).

Reggie Lemelin in the 1988 Playoffs was TREMENDOUS!

He was the best goalie out of everyone. Just that 88 Oilers team still remains one of the best playoff teams ever.

And making it even better is NO ONE expected it. Reggie at this point was considered washed up and mediocre at best. (In Atlanta, he was named "Let em in" Lemelin to give you an idea of the esteem in which he was held.) Then the 1988 playoff started. He was out of mind. Never better. One play I can still picture. End of game or overtime. It was Hartford. Dineen broke in alone and blasted a shot. Reggie just snapped it with his glove, flipped the puck in the air, caught it, tossed it to the ref like he was tossing a coffee cup.

it was a shame about kluzak. what a tandem, bourque and kluzak could have been for many years.

“I never got to see it as a player but it’s sweet as a broadcaster!” - Derek Sanderson Turk, 36 years later it’s still sweet for all of us Bruins fans. The Habs got us back in 1989. But we got them again in 1990. I actually skipped out on a school dance to make sure I could watch Game 5 in 1990. It was a Friday night and I could enjoy the game. And it was a great game, high tension because it was so close. And when Glen Wesley slapped home that winner, my 13-year-old self about hitting the ceiling with excitement. And 1991 and 1992 were even better than that. But the best of all was 2011.

As great as this was for Boston fans ... beating the Canadiens in 1990, 1992, 2009, and 2011 were even sweeter. 1990 was better because (a) it proved that 1988 wasn’t a fluke, and (b) the clincher happened in Boston so the home fans got to see it. 1992 was great for both of those reasons AND because it was a sweep. I will admit, though, it did lose a little bit of its luster when the Bruins then got swept themselves by Pittsburgh in the next round. 2009 was eerily similar to 1992 in that it was a sweep. And vengeance for 2008. Which is always cool. And I’ll always get a kick out of Jack Edwards’ call as the series was ending ... “turn off the compressor, melt down the ice, scrape off the logo ... last one out of the building, turn out the lights” 😆 Oh I actually left out 1991. First time in my lifetime the Bruins won a Game 7 over Montreal. That was an awesome series. Back and forth, each team having its dominant moments. 2011 has to be number one. Down 0-2 and getting booed off the ice after Game 2. Then my first son was born between Games 3 and 4. The comeback in Game 4 when it looked like Montreal was getting ready to blow the doors off. Then Ryder scoring in OT.

I hit the wrong button. Allow me to continue. The return to Boston and the standing ovation prior to Game 5 was awesome. So was that game and the end result of the series ... and what it ultimately led to.

They beat em in 94 too.

I was on a class trip in France so I missed it all. Picked up a USA Today at the train station in Paris to find out my B's finally broke their curse against the Habs. I was ecstatic.

So nice to hear Fred and Derek in these games, we got Bob Cole and Dink Irvin on the CBC, a couple of Hab homers of the first degree.

Bring back white sweaters at HOME ... PLEASE!!
@williamkanejr32333 жыл бұрын
I disagree. The 2011 Cup was won wearing black sweaters at home. That’s reason enough for me to keep it the way it is. That’s what makes hockey great ... it’s not like the other sports where white at home is the norm.
@seanornery49853 жыл бұрын
@@williamkanejr3233 The 1970 Cup (Bobby Orr's golden goal) was won with black sweaters at home too. BUT... in '72, Home teams started wearing white. Won that Cup too

Had to watch this after watching the B’s pre game celebration last night, Jan 20, 2024. They honoured this team. Then went on to hammer the Habs 9-4. Making it 12 wins in the last 13 vs Mont.

After not beating hem in a playoff series in 45 years we would then eliminate them jn 5 out of the next 7 seasons.
@BBQFanNo1 Жыл бұрын
Incorrect. After this series the Bruins went 4-3 against the Canadiens in the next 7 series losing in 1989, 2002, and 2004. The Bruins won in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1994.
@scottaznavourian3720 Жыл бұрын
@Billy DJ I said they went on to eliminate them in 5 of the next 7 sessons...which is not incorrect
