Can any Americans actually say place name like Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. Can they even say 'shire' right???
@roguishpaladin5 жыл бұрын
People in New England can, actually. They have their own Worcester and Gloucester. They don't have shires, though - the land is divided into states and counties, which is ironic when you consider that there are no counts in the USA. We do have Worcestershire sauce, though, so folks who are already prepared about the first half of the name not being pronounced anything like how it looks can adapt to the second half reasonably well. Also, New Englanders get to deal with native names, too. Sure, you have Wales and Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, but New England has Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. So it's confusion all around!

Tom Hardy does an OKAY East Coaster, but a pretty unconvincing Southerner. Hugh Laurie does a PERFECT American accent, though. Absolutely nails it, fooled everyone here in the States. Recently, Robert Pattinson did a somewhat unusual, but actually very good (and accurate) old-time regional Kentucky accent. I can't think of any American that has done any of the various British accents well. Perhaps you can offer one up. IMO - and this is JUST my opinion - Americans and the English attack the art of acting differently. I think it's a more money-oriented game in America and more of an art creation game in England. Americans go for what will "sell," while the English try to get you to buy what they're selling. I think an example of this would be: Megan Fox would never happen in England, and Olivia Coleman would never happen in the States. Talent itself is just far more important in Britain, and as a result, you get more refined actors. That's just my opinion, and it's a very educated one, but still just my own.
