The most interesting part of this is the reason for Brulle to reveal that information, she understands Katakuri and she understands that he respects Luffy and their fight, she didn't want to give Luffy credit for the win, but Katakuri would have. There is a good reason for Brulle to be Katakuri's favourite little sister.

to be honest, Luffy only won cuz Katakuri hurt himself intentionally to make up for his sisters' intervention in their fight. Luffy obviously had his plot armor, he was gonna win one way or another. But Katakuri showed what a legend he is and not accepting an easy defeat (or loss in this case). And Luffy acknowledges that and respects him.

And I think Katakuri was also the first one to get back up, he definitely can still fight even though he's exhausted but chose not to because his respect for Luffy has already overwhelmed his previous view on him.

Things I loved about this scene: 1. Brulle delivering the news of Katakuri's defeat bec she understands that Katakuri would give much credit and respect to Luffy 2. Oven bursting into flames while giving orders. All fired up and ready to fight for revenge for his brother. That's how much he respects Katakuri.

Luffy actually beat Katakuri. Katakuri was only ever superior to Luffy in one area, Observation Haki. This is what allowed him to always edge out Luffy, dodging his attacks and landing hits that Luffy couldn't dodge.

Some say, Brulee revealed this information, because Katakuri would've wanted it that way, since he has high respect for Luffy. I personally think it's a little bit different. Brulle knows how much Katakuri suffers from his "always being perfect / flawless" character. That's why he is hiding when it with his big jaw. That's why he can't never lose. That's why he can't never laugh. Brulle knows all of this and the fight with Luffy made it even more clear for her, how brutal it is for Katakuri. While Luffy is the pirate with the most freedom out there, Katakuri ist one with alot of self-build shackles. So it's like a curse. Brulee revealed this information, so that Katakuri can finaly get rid of his own curse. Because now everyone knows he isn't perfect anymore. That's why she started her setence with "The perfect one and the world's strongest and greatest ", so that everyone now knows, that this isn't the case anymore. And while she is saying this, we see a color change in Katakuri. While Ruffy was represented in reddisch, Katakuri was always represented in blue, showing the different positions Luffy and Katakuri were in. But as soon as Brulee revealed the information, Katakuri changed to red. Since the biggest difference between them was the freedom part, this means, that Katakuri is finally freed from his shackles. He lost this fight, but he finaly gained his freedom. Thank you, Brulee

Despite not really liking most of the Whole Cake arc, and thinking Katakuri , while interesting and fun to watch, to be *massively* overhyped, the genuine care some if not all of Big Mom's children have for each other really caught me off-guard in a good way. One Piece has always been great at giving even its most despicable antagonists some humanity (some of my favorite examples being Arlong deeply caring for his crew and his people despite his violent methods, Mr. 3's heroism to honor the memory of his former rival Mr.2/Bon Clay and Gecko Moria taking on a fucking *Yonko* to try and save one of his few actual comrades as well as raising Perona as his own daughter), and Big Mom's family may consist almost entirely of horrible people, but they're horrible people who look after their own, which is interesting.

Antagonists in One Piece are not really "villains". I mean, yes some pirates invade islands or towns but that what pirates really are. But in MORAL sense, they are just people who took the sea for different goals and dreams in mind and not to rule the world or destroy everything etc like what most antagonists in other anime. Eg. Big mom's dream is to build a kingdom where every races can live in. OP antagonists are not edgy and inhumane criminals who would destroy the world just because of bullshit reasons like "prophecy" or revenge or even just because they just feel to do so. Rather, they do what they do just to achieve their goals.

@@run8024 That's a good way to look at it - even the most unredeemably awful antagonists of One Piece are either inplied to have been more than their current villainous persona (for instance Kuro, who got disillusioned with the pirate lifestyle and used his superior intellect and ruthlessness to leave this life behind, and Crocodile, who had his youthful enthusiasm and dreams crushed by Whitebeard), the main reason they turned to evil is because they abandoned their principles or went the easy way instead of trying to improve their situation through effort and determination (Hody Jones stubbornly refusing to let go of his belief that humans are evil no matter the circumstance, and Wapol ruining his country through selfishness spring to mind). Some antagonistic groups are barely villains in any sense, like the Foxy Pirates or the Franky Family, who despite being crooks (somewhat) graciously accept defeat, are able to respect and admire those who best them and can feel genuine gratitude to those they consider friends. The Franky Family in particular was always one if my favorite groups of the straw hat's allies, going from enemies to being ready to die for a mutual cause.
