Alex Alexander I agree with you, but I don't think Bruno Mars is portraying himself as a musical genius either. He has a great voice and his musical compositions are definitely elementary, but he set out mostly to use simple time tested doo-wop progressions to compose his songs and never claimed to be some progressive refined musical genius like someone such as Omar Rodríguez-López is. Bruno Mars has a great voice, but his music is definitely catered to the masses with white knight classics that made me cringe the first time I heard them such as "The Way You Are." That said I like his voice and think on a technical level his ability to sing soft in the upper fourth and lower fifth octave is far beyond other popular adult contemporary singers who cater to the masses. He can masterfully sing a difficult song like The Police's "Roxanne" and kill it live better than Sting could in his prime and not dodge any of the notes.

I was two days ago at his concert in Budapest, god, what an experience! He surprised us with Billie Jean and Dirty Diana performance, he didn`t perform this to any of the concerts on this tour. It was insane!
