@Dramatello4 жыл бұрын
@@WakaWaka2468 Haha that comment of yours is a joke or a troll, take a pick. You have NO IDEA what kind of precise talent you need to have to build a whole song, be able to sing (oh, and have an amazing voice), plus - know your way around mixing engineering which includes EQing, compression all while knowing what sound to shape and yet not crash frequencies... properly do mastering too which is a whole other thing. By the way - you need to know how to record yourself well. I know a lot of singers who have a great voice but they can't properly record themselves let alone layering and complicated layering (like Charlie does in a lot of his songs and other Pop artists). Later, you need to know how to promote yourself. Which Charlie Puth does amazingly if you ever followed his content other than just what's on KZbin. So he's basically a musician, singer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, performer, marker and more. Now, back in the days... you would just come up with a beautiful voice and all the things I've listed above would be done for you if you found the right deal with the right label. So all in all - one would suggest music standards went up rather than dropped.

You set the bar for "genius" ridiculously low. He can sing and play piano and self-produce (by necessity, since record companies won't advance most artists the money to record with a producer). Tens of thousands of other musicians do the same. Now Sturgeon's law applies, 95% of everything is cr*p, and Charlie Puth is really good, but that doesn't make him a genius. There isn't one genius-level element in this song: not the melody, the chords, the lyrics, nor the production; it's just another good song much better than the 95%. I'm not even sure he's more talented than Shawn Mendes, are they both geniuses?

New artists get an advance and have to pay for everything. There is a video clip of Tupac flashing a bunch of hundreds talking about how good Death Row takes care of him. That money was all on loan. Lil Dicky on the other hand made a music video for free, it’s called Save That Money. New artist don’t realize that they get a small piece of the pie and STILL have to pay for everything.

That's more than a gift, imo. There you can see the hard work and effort he puts in; moreover, he is graduated from Berklee College of Music meaning he has the musical background and sufficient knowledge to put what goes from his mind. Other than that, every soul is special and somehow produces special things, he is just mastered the way he expresses himself.

@Thomas Cheung I've heard the deeper you get into Pro-Tools, the more powerful it gets. There are some ridiculous things you can do in PT that you can't do anywhere else. There's a reason why its basically the only software used in film and television post-production as well. Sure it was the first to go around but it wouldn't stay around if it wasn't the best software. I'm an FL Studio and Reaper user. FL Studio has the best piano roll in the industry and one of the best MIDI handling capabilities. I use FL as a starting point for those reasons. However, FL Studio is horrible at handling audio files, especially audio recording. I'd rather chop my hand off than record full songs in FL. That's why I have Reaper. (Even mixing is annoying in FL, which I have done at times) PT is like a tank. Clunky, slow, impractical. But you can bet it'll go to places a Ferrari can't reach.
