BRUNSWiCK HERiTAGE WALK ~ 2024
Brunswick is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 5 km (3.1 mi) north of Melbourne's Central Business District.
Traditionally a working class area noted for its large Italian and Greek communities, Brunswick is currently known for its bohemian culture and strong arts and live music scenes.
Brunswick takes its name from George IV and the city of Brunswick, Germany, which lay within his ancestral Kingdom of Hanover. It is bordered to the south by the suburbs of Princes Hill and Parkville, to the east by Brunswick East, to the north by Coburg and to the west by Brunswick West.
Henry Search opened a butcher's shop in 1850, on the south-west corner of Albert Street and Sydney Road. This was the first retail establishment in Brunswick. By 1851, gold diggers began making their way through the area, on their journey from the populous suburbs of Fitzroy and Collingwood. Brunswick provided a convenient place for lunch, before the diggers reached the beginnings of the roads to the goldfields.
When the brickworks and much of the textile industry also began to close as gentrification accelerated in the 1990s. Many old buildings were renovated and new residential developments begun during this period.

Fantastic opening loved that drive and when the letters broke apart. Great tour with so many personal.touches loved the photo of Peter's uncle where he was a Taylor oh and Jo Jo what a grear 50th birthday cake and photo you looked so amazing! Those cakes and coffees looked amazing hope they are still around when we visit. Ruby is such a cutie! This walking tour was wonderful with so many facts and so many personal touches hearing about parents and grandparents. Very enjoyable walk just love you both and hope to one day visit! 😊

Next year we are planning to go to Portugal to do the Portuguese Camino starting from Porto to Santiago and onto Finitsere. Don't worry about pastry shops, cafés, and restaurants, there are many around Melbourne. In Melbourne there are approximately 5000 cafes and restaurants - per capita Melbourne has the most cafes/restaurants in the world. Have a great week head. 👍🏼🙏🏼🤠♥️

Hi guys our shopping centre here in Scarborough is called the Brunswick Centre we have just found out this week the reason all the shops have been closed down is because we are getting an Odeon Cinema and food court which is huge news for us locals, whether it will happen is another story! Sorry waffling! This place has a lot of English ties including the thieves, drug dealers and murderers 😂 thank god the Italians came along even if their ugly windows haven’t changed in years! Ruby getting growly at passer-by s, rude 🤭 As always fabulous town tour with great info and history and beautifully put together! Hello Nicholas and Jill, I am guessing it is Nicholas who is responding to our video. Thats very exciting for you guys in Scarborough. But I thought Cinemas were struggling, given that everyone now subscribes to online apps like Foxtel and Net Flicks. I know that before Covid epidemic we would go to the cinemas twice a month, now we are lucky if we go at all. Just as well the Italians brought good coffee to Australia, otherwise we would all be drinking instant or drip-o-lated Coffee. Thank you for joining us, have a great week. @@CowboyJojosAdventures Hi guys we both watch you on the big screen but with Nick being chief editor I, Jilly have taken role of chief commenter so it is I responding! You are right re Cinemas that is why we are sceptical about one opening but the only one we have in Scarborough is a one small screen very small theatre (which is currently up for sale) the nearest big cinema complex is an hour drive away in York so the residents always complaining! It’s been 4 years since we have been to the cinema! We would make it a regular date night with the food court & a blockbuster film! 🎥 You can’t beat a good coffee or anything Italian 🇮🇹 related 😉❤️
