Ya know? I bought a similar sponge to paint with . But it was a scrubby sponge that was shaped like that . I’d considered ripping off the scrubby part . But it actually might work well as is for aging wood . 🤔

I learned a little technique from a professional painter who said always wash your brushes with cold water and when they're dry,put blue painters tape around the bristles to keep the brush in the uniform order

Thanks for sharing! Hanging them upside down will have the same effect without having to tape.

Love your videos! I’m a beginner and I’m gathering tools for my first project which is a tv stand. Going off your video, I think the Wooster pro is good for me. Do you suggest using it for my primer, or should I buy a foam brush in addition? Is it easy to use with chalk paint, creating a smooth look ?
@momof3blessingsfaithhopelo8694 жыл бұрын
Those brushes are very neat, I have never seen those fatter ones, very neat. I’m afraid of chalk painting lol. But I would love to get a good brush for painting furniture that won’t leave brush marks bc that’s so annoying!

Born in a Barn Boutique would you recommend that big fluff brush for regular paint or only chalk? Trying to figure out a way to get in those corners of things. Also on my table top they told me to strip it and very lightly sand bc it’s basically crap material with a pine wood vineer. Paid way to much! 🤦♀️Anyway, would a hand palm electric sander be ok if I used like 330/400 grit on it? Or should I just stick to the old fashioned way lol
@BorninaBarnBoutique4 жыл бұрын
@@momof3blessingsfaithhopelo869 I would only use that for furniture painting, I mean you could use it with regular paint, but its an expensive brush and sometimes household is hard to get out of brushes. As for the table top - who told you to strip it and then sand? If you are going to get a nice stain job on it, you will want to make sure you get all the finish off. 330 or 400 is way too fine. When I am worried I am going to burn through I start with 150. When you go that fine on a sandpaper, not only will it not take off the finish, if you do get it off with that eventually, that fine of a grit sandpaper will effect how the stain imparts to the wood evenly. You are not supposed to go any finer that 180 when sanding to stain (that is pretty dang smooth) :)
@momof3blessingsfaithhopelo8694 жыл бұрын
Born in a Barn Boutique ok that’s very good to know. They told me to strip it and then lightly sand bc they arnt sure what exactly the wood is. When I picked up my java gel at a local woodcraft store I showed them the middle piece of my table. They said it did have some type of wood under the veneer or finish, but they were worried that by sanding to hard bc the finish was already “gumming” up and I could scratch it off but still see the design of the table. But I can’t sand with the grain bc it’s going in all different directions and unnatural and you can’t feel it. They said it has to be pine because it’s so soft. So they said it prob be best stripped. What would you recommend? I did get the java stain so I’m hoping it works even if I have to end up “painting it on the trim of my hutch.” Would you recommend me buying a cheaper palm electric sander bc I would like to have one to do the chairs bc I want to paint them but I know I need to remove that spray paint. Any help would be great! I wish I could insert a picture of my table top. I’m so nervous!
@BorninaBarnBoutique4 жыл бұрын
Momof3blessings FaithHope&Love ok. Got it. I just don’t use stripper very often, but I know a lot of people do with no issues. You can email me pic at borninabarnboutique1@gmail.com. I use an orbital and another one surf prep. I have never used a palm sander. If you think it’s a tool you would use often than it’s a good investment.

Hi, I have nit used DB brushes. If they are natural bristle brushes you will get a more hand painted look with more brushstroke - just ensure for a smoother finish, you are using synthetic brushes

Hi, why do you keep your brushes in water? Don't they lose their shape? Do their bristles bend? Thanks for your channel. :)
@BorninaBarnBoutique4 жыл бұрын
Tyler P Criner The cling on brushes are the ones I store in water. The company says they are designed to be used and stored wet. They say when not using the brush to store in water with just the tips submersed. It not only helps keep the brush the cleanest, keeps the bristles in tact (not losing shape or fanning out) but prolongs the life of the brush. I have done it since I have had all of mine and I can attest to the process - it works!

Can you use the Cling On brushes with regular latex paint?
@BorninaBarnBoutique3 жыл бұрын
Latex is water based and synthetic-bristle brushes are recommended for water-based latex paints.Cling On! brushes are made from specially developed, designed and manufactured synthetic fibers. Its main component is a high quality nylon fiber filament with durability of 5 to 9 times higher than common polyester fiber brushes.

What do you call topcoating and do I need it for a new tabletop I just painted?

my Staalmeesters always bloom like a flower after a couple if goes/cleans any tips on how i can prevent that? it seems expensive brushes don't last that long :(
@Feeney200914 жыл бұрын
Use an elastic band halfway down the bristles after cleaning. If you let them dry without this, the bristles will fan out and splay. Alternatively, wrap in cling film but please don't use tape or anything with adhesive. I follow this procedure with all of my best brushes and they last much much longer. Good luck.
@MephProduction4 жыл бұрын
@@Feeney20091 I have tried that and it didn't work, but i suspect the damage had already been done. Currently i keep the elastic band on while using which has made a difference. The problem seems to be using them in modern hybrid paints, as they dry too quickly in the brush, but tough enough so you can't clean them properly. When i start a new one i'll make sure it elastic it up straight away.
@Feeney200914 жыл бұрын
@@MephProduction also could it be too much pressure on the brush when painting / cleaning? Also something I've noticed with acrylic / water based paints (on my cheaper brushes) is the ends seem to split. I've not noticed it with the more expensive brushes but it's really annoying, not sure if you've found this.
@MephProduction4 жыл бұрын
@@Feeney20091 Yeah cheaper brushes would split, i was advises to wet them first as it helps prevent the paint drying too quickly inside the brush. i've also started to rinse them in water though out the day, maybe every hour or 90 minutes which has helped. I'm determined not to return to oil based for interior work,
