Great vid Troy! I personally love my Granite 4x4! Mine is the brushless 3s BLX version, that goolrc combo I think was just a little under powered for it really to do more than the brushed system did, in the stock 3s BLX system the Granite can easily get over 30mph on a 2s lipo, on a 3s it can get up to 60+, the stock 3s BLX system is a 3500kv motor and a 100a esc, so I'm thinking maybe with a higher amp esc like an 80a you will definitely be able to get over 30mph on 2s using that 3900kv motor. Might be worth checking out before doing your giveaway with it.

Yes! I believe you are 100% correct. This combo was a little disappointing. We have driven it more since, and I don't like this setup. I have a Hobbywing SC8 ESC that I will try in it.

I've just fitted a brushless to ours, but without changing the pinion we've seen no speed change at all (used 2s on both motors). Running much cooler though! Our brushed motor cooked running about on grass. Got a 17T pinion coming on Monday so should see some more speed!

@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Yes, this truck is very durable and does come highly recommended. You can basically take 2 paths with the Granite 4x4. 1 - get the Mega and then throw a brushless setup at it. 2 - get the BLX from the start. I would honestly suggest that you go with (2). The only real drawback is that I don't believe the BLX comes with a battery, while the Mega does. Still - with 3 trucks running, you would probably be upgrading to lipo batteries rather soon anyway.

Great video Troy thank you! I’m just getting into the RC hobby and waiting for my Arrma voltage to arrive. Seems like the 4WD Arrma Granite would be a lot more customizable then the voltage?
@RoadsideRC

Yes - there are a lot more parts available for the 4WD than the voltage. Still, that is OK. I also have a voltage - and that thing is simply a bunch of fun. Check out my video on testing it with the stock motor, a 12T brushed motor, and then going brushless!

Did you try the stock 3s. Brushless with arrma wide kit and 4s backflips ? The 17mm hexes are on Etsy , not widened . No rubbing . She flies , literally 😂. It’s great for the ramp , insane . Lots of wheelies otherwise and back to rollovers with 1” taller tires but it’s not bad . It’s like the granite was before the wide kit . I ran it for 3 weeks and switched yesterday . It’s been wet so I’ll see when the time comes if I like the stock tires or lp s .

The boys and I have driven it some more since filming this, and we are just not really happy with the ESC. I have a Hobbywing SC8 laying around (4S capable!!!) that I am going to throw in it and see how it goes. Don't really want to give it away with this poor running.

Yeah no shame as i know from experience but goolrc we all know is about the cheapest drop in brushless conversion out there,however your cogging is most likely due to esc if you upgrade only esc to something loke a hobbywing $60 worth every penny would be world of difference also 60a isnt gonna be what you want it will work but if for offroad use then no onroad yes with right gear but if going 60a least be a quality brand again dont ask how i know this but goolrc 3660 3300kv is what i got in stampede with hobbywing 120a esc and man its scary fast for a cheap brushless motor has lasted way longer than could of ever imagined,still going to this day have already bought other motors for experimental kv/voltage performance so far 3200kv is about as far reliable u can get higher kv only gets hotter quicker for little more power better to up battery and lower kv 😉

I used the 16 pinion change out and made sure that the pinion and drive shafts connection were at the same height, placed the cover on and checked the ability for a smooth spin and connection. No dice. It seems to rough in places as I spin the drive shaft connection. Also, I can’t seem to push the whole plastic motor case back in to place far enough to get the red piece to slide in. This is a very frustrating project.
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 жыл бұрын
I apologize, I am really not following what is going wrong here. When talking about the pinion change, you mention making sure the pinion and driveshaft are at the same height. I think that might be where you are going wrong, as I am not sure what you mean by height in this situation. Getting the whole housing seated properly is 100% critical. You have to get the input from the transmission back in there correctly, or else nothing will work and you will break other pieces. I'm happy to help if you can provide more info.

Hey So I just found another deal at tower hobbies for a scratch & Dent box of the granite 4x4 brushed version for $179. No warranty though. Do you think it's worth it? I want to pick up another 1/10 scale (also have a rival mt10) so the throttle can be dialed back and the kids can play with it. Kind of thinking about going for the 1/10 outcast 4s instead, running on 3s@50% for the kids, 4s for me! You think too much car for a 6&7 year old? I definitely wouldn't even consider letting them drive my kraton 6s exb. I'm thinking the outcast might be manageable, but if not maybe this granite? What do you think? Those ESCs probably don't have enough power. You need a more powerful ESC. Also - what motor is in it?

@@RoadsideRC I'm not sure what kv, no markings, , got both used. The tonado and mini erevo are both stock brushless redcat and valenion respectively. Esc is 120 amp. Kinda frustrsted, might go brushed with the redcat and forget the taxxas totally.

@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
The good news, even if you use the stock brushless setup, you can always limit the speed with the controller. I would suggest going with the stock brushless setup, or perhaps this one: amzn.to/3gb3vEI Or use this better ESC: amzn.to/3euHEra Paired with this motor: www.amazon.com/dp/B073DDT7NY/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_apa_gl_i_REPPVCT52BVG5VENACK1?linkCode=ml2&tag=roadsiderc-20

Yeah problem is I wasn’t trying to spend that much, just bought it last week for my 5 year old to get the hang of things and now I’m already having to upgrade to brushless, looks like I should’ve just bought the blx from the start and ran a smaller battery in it. So you wouldn’t reccomend any of the goolrc kits?
@RoadsideRC

@@jmorrow8122 I do not recommend any of the GoolRC kits. I have used many of them over the years. Their ESCs always give up rather quickly. Their motors can be pretty good though! Why are you already upgrading to brushless?

@@RoadsideRC Did you ever figure out what should be put in a Mega or did you get rid of it before you got it right? Would you recommend it as a place to start or would it be better to save up for something better?
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 жыл бұрын
The 3S BLX version really is the best place to start. Instead of going with this GoolRC setup, I would recommend a Hobbywing Max10SCT esc with a 3500-3800kv motor. Still, that costs more than the jump between Mega and BLX...so better to just get the BLX.

@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 жыл бұрын
Brushed motors do tend to get hot...and have short life spans. Double check the gearing mesh between the pinion and the spur. It might be a little tight, which causes it to work harder.
