Thanks for this tutorial. I bought these a couple of weeks ago, and so far, of the dozen or so backgrounds I've made, there's only one I'd use. I can't believe how much water it takes to dissolve the colour crystals ... I think I'll try the starch one! Thanks again!
@KyliePurtell75
@KyliePurtell75 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Virginia, perhaps you are sprinkling too much powder? Try a little less and see how you go. It shouldn't take too much water to get them to dissolve. If you need any help with your backgrounds, I'd be happy to take a look at the ones you have made - kyliepurtell@gmail.com :)

Thanks so much Kylie. They look better now I've stamped on them, but I really appreciate your help. I will try less powder on the next lot.

Hi Kylie ~ These cards are gorgeous!! I don't have Brushos, but I do have Color Burst so assume they will work the same way. The plastic wrap technique is my favorite and I can't wait to try it (but will have to buy some spray starch first, lol). Thanks for sharing!! (PS: Loved listening to your voice too!! I'm from the USA.)

Thank you Maggie! I love the starch technique. I have just demoed it at the first HLS Craft Retreat in the UK. I"m hoping to visit the USA next year and I always love playing with Brushos so you never know what I may bring with me!

Love Brushos! No art is the same so it's the random-ness I like. I wonder if instead of using starch, you could use shaving foam? But great video, and I must try the cling film technique.

Is the starch going to be archival? Will it deteriorate in time? Inquiring minds want to know... LOL Linda PS Love the look of just the starch sprayed powders.
@KyliePurtell75
@KyliePurtell75 8 жыл бұрын
+LINDA BLOOM Intuitive & Inspired Art Hi Linda! It probably isn't archival! I haven't had any issues yet but it hasn't been long enough to see :) I suggest if you use this technique, spray the finished work with a sealer. I use a spray can of gloss sealer for arts and crafts. Hope this helps :)

INTUITIVE & INSPIRED ART Linda Bloom well brusho itself is not archival or lightfast. Some colors are better than others but it's best to use an archival varnish or special framing glass (uv light filter) for any finished artwork.

Hello Kylie, thanks for the great tutorial. May I ask what the difference is with using starch instead of water? I havent seen starch used previously and wondered what you find the benefits seem to be? Many thanks
@KyliePurtell75
@KyliePurtell75 9 жыл бұрын
Megan Pickard Hi there Megan. The starch reacts differently to the brushos than the water does. If I sprayed as much water as I did starch, the colour would just be one big diluted mess. I haven't tried the water with the cling wrap technique but I can certainly do so as a comparison and let everyone know.

Does anyone know if rubbing alcohol has any effect with Brusho?
@ibkristykat
@ibkristykat 7 жыл бұрын
I thought you weren't supposed to remove Brusho's lids anyway. (I just got a 24 pack for Christmas & used my Tim Holtz pokey tool to punch a hole in the middle of the lids-- they sprinkled just fine..)
@KyliePurtell75
@KyliePurtell75 7 жыл бұрын
ibkristykat It is just a tip for newbies to using Brushos. I mention not removing the lids just in case someone was wondering if they should or not. I also use a craft tool to poke a hole in the top.

The point was that the pots are concentrated powder that make up many litres of paints - usually for schools etc. For this technique, removing the lid isn't required. The lids ARE meant to be removed - they are designed for that :)

My favorite brusho technique is painting with bleach on a colorful brusho background. It completely goes back to the white paper and it's like painting with white.

Lori Jones I've done that as well only rubber stamped an image on top of brusho paint, then bleach out parts I want, when I stamp a girl I bleach the skin then color in a pretty complexion...they turn out so pretty.
