What a sad and incredibly uplifting story.. I am 83 and pretty healthy and live in my own home with my niece living with me. My daughter and son in law want me to come live with them, maybe I will, but not yet. I paint, but not nearly with the same drive and talent that Mary has. I loved this sensitive documentary of this talented and very grounded lady. She has a wonderful sense of humor and sense of where she is in her life. And she has good family. I also grew up in and still live in Fulham. In fact, the painting you can see at 8.44 is of my Auntie and Uncle's Locksmith shop 'F. Richards and Sons'. I spent half my childhood in that shop and the flat above it. The shop is still there today, in fact this lady painted it again years later, when it had become a light/lamp shop, which you can see at 13.55. I know where everyone of these paintings are located and today most of it is gone. I only saw this film today because an art-loving friend sent me the link thinking I might enjoy it and I sure did. It was like being 10 again. What an amazing artist this lady was and only 5 mins from where I live.

I can’t tell you how moving this film is to me. I saw the first one when she was trying to get into the Royal Academy and that was brilliant. It’s good to see a follow up and if there are more I will certainly keep my eye out. I am a painter myself living alone in my 60s in Vermont. I feel like this is so meaningful and so beautifully done. I believe it should win an award. I also believe that her work is brilliant. She’s not really a copyist as she says. She has a great command of shadows, a good ability at painting the figure And her knowledge of the painting profession is commendable. Anyway that’s my two cents! I’ll be looking out for more.

I cannot believe how stupid the Royal Academy is. Mary's Fulham works are wonderful. AND important. That the Academy cannot see this is just typical of institutions. They will later on, of course, when OTHERS have been able to see through the bias of modernism or the present vogue. Don't get me wrong; I am an abstract/modern painter. But you have to be insensitive to be blind to the importance of Mary's work. I'd give my eye teeth to own one of her paintings, and I don't say this about many people's work. Thank you SO MUCH for making these documentaries and for sharing your mother with us. She is a National Treasure and those like her, of her generation and of her caliber, are fast disappearing. It makes me infinitely sad. Thank you!!

Just watched this documentary,after coming upon it by chance….beautifully done,loved the sympathetic way it was put together and the music was so fitting. What an inspiration Mary is, accepting her illness and the fact that she couldn’t do the one thing she loved with dignity.I laughed at her gentle humour and cried when she had to leave her home with all those wonderful memories of generations of her family. She has three children who love and respect her…a true testament to an amazing woman,and a life well lived. I adore her paintings!!

I am so saddened to to see this news after being so inspired to see Brushstroke recently. I returned to art later in my life and its the best thing I ever did. Seeing her wonderful paintings and resilience along with her struggles to get her work accepted at the Royal Academy did leave me wondering why there? In my opinion her work was too good for that institution. Please someone organise an exhibition before the art dealer vultures descend. All the frustrations and doubts we all have as artists of all ages are just not worth it. What a wonderful, positive woman.😮‍💨💔

What a wonderfully remarkable woman. My dad was an artist and had brain cancer, which left him paralyzed his right side and unable to paint or draw. He was so frustrated, so I told him is art was in his mind, heart and soul and he could draw and paint left handed. He started drawing with his left hand, but wanted to paint. So we set up his oils, pushed his wheelchair up, and he did, beautifully❤ all the while during his 7 weeks of radiation.

Who told this lady that her art is "naïvistic", and her paintings "too tight"?! That must have come from pure stupidity or artistic jealousy! I'm not an art expert, but even I with my basic schooling can see that her style is figurative realism. She is not only a true artist, she is also a force of nature. What a comeback after the stroke! Wonderful! After watching the first film and a trailer I kept searching for this and it wasn't available. Now here it is! Mary has the heart and soul of an artist but she remains modest. I wanted to contact her with an idea of botox injection for essential tremor, to relax her hand enough for her to paint again, but I couldn't. Thank you for making this lovely film and for posting it. I predict her work will become respected and rise in value long after she's gone, which seems to happen to many artists in this world.
