Belgium has what you would call an engineered monarchy. Since Belgium throughout its history had never been an independent country. But a territory, of the burgundians, the spanish, the austrians, the napoleonic french, and finally in 1850 its last owner the netherlands was forced to give it independence. And the first king of belgium took his reign.

Belgium like today was an independent state ubder the Habsburg Netherlands and Austrian Netherlands, Belgium or the Burgundian Netherlands at the time was mainly composed by Belgium and expanded later to the north, for the Spanish Netherlands it was different it was a Kingdom State belonging to the Spanish Crown same thing under Habsburg and Austrian Netherlands, so the current Kingdom of Belgium 🇧🇪 is almost 200years old but the same nation has been there for 600+years, and yes 20 something yrs annexed to the French as province's then 15 yrs to the Kingdom of Holland 🇳🇱 so the Belgian Province's called Netherlands at that time were now passed to Holland and formed the new Country The United Kingdom of the Netherlands but you know how that ended 15yrs union and Belgium was free again and Lord in its own house belonging to no crown but his own

My Grandmother was a Nurse there in the First World War with the Red Cross, trained by Cavell. I have amazing photos of the Hospital beds with chandeliers above!

In Belgium the King is the King of the Belgians; in the Netherlandls, The King is the King of the Kingdom of The Netherlands. Quite a difference.

Our little country has a lot of treasures, in all shapes and on many levels. But, I would also like to point out, for viewers that do not know Belgium and it’s history, that a lot of wealth was acquired through slave work and brutal treatment of people in its colony in Africa ( now…Burundi, Rwanda and DR of Congo ). King Philippe and Queen Matilda are nowadays at the forefront of restoring that harm that was done to all in Africa…..a great thank you…

Good Lord, the rooms are bare of furniture. I could do a better job left in that Palace. Far too many chairs all against walls. Where are the Plush sofas and cosy armchairs,not to speak of magnificent huge tables? Just large carpets in the middle of huge rooms. Apart from the above it's a beautiful Palace.

The royal furniture is spread over the royal palaces of the royal family like the Castle of Laken of castle Belvedere ect ect

Keep in mind The royal palace of Brussels is a work place and not the residence of the royal family and the royal household
