Other than balance, I always figured that civilian economy also represents the government having less direct control over production, so it has to either go through normal government contracting processes to build anything itself or has to incentivize the private sector to build new factories on its own, thus the penalties to both kinds.

I've noticed they've made quite a few changes to aircraft recently: Among which is that weight now affects agility directly, rather than speed (which i really like). They've also changed a bunch of stats for the modules, which makes extended fuel tanks superior to drop-off tanks (depending on how highly you value air defence), seeing as they're cheaper and lighter, and the armor penalty is quite small. Turrets are also way, WAY better nowadays, granting agility on certain missions, which helps mitigate the tradeoff for making your aircraft heavier, but they reduce your speed (because turrets are not very aerodynamic) as a tradeoff. Traditionally, turrets were kinda shit cause they would reduce your agility flat out, which is a stat that is very important on many missions. For the same reason you would not get the maximum amount of bombs you could carry, you would not put any turrets on your bombers, because it reduced their agility too much. At least for the turrets, this is no longer the case. An interesting fact about aircraft in real-life is that their thrust-to-weight ratio doesn't *really* affect their maximum speed that much, unless they have WAY more thrust than they need, but what it does affect is how high they can fly. The higher up in the atmosphere you get, the more speed is required to maintain the same amount of "lift" force from the wings pushing against the air. This means that a plane with a higher thrust-to-weight ratio is going to be able to fly higher up in the atmosphere. Because the engine is also dependent on air resistance as it's "fuel", it also means your thrust gets reduced the higher up you go, meaning a rotor engine needs to spin faster, or have a greater effective surface-area of their rotor blades to maintain its altitude. High-altitude air breathing jet engines just substitute some of the air for a more fuel-rich combustion (to a point). Incidentally, this is why jet planes in hoi4 require more fuel than rotor's, whereas in real life, even back in the 1940's, a "turbofan" jet engine would get better fuel economy simply because of its ability to maintain level flight at a higher altitude (rotors can kinda "bunny hop" to higher altitudes, but they gradually lose momentum). Rotors remain more efficient at lower altitudes to this day. So TLDR: Jet's are less efficient than rotors, but allow you to avoid drag, which more than makes up for this. If paradox wanted, they could make altitude a game mechanic, which would make unarmed scout and naked bomber planes much more viable, because they would be so light they would just fly above other planes, which also means their average speed would be higher (less air resistance). All in all though, i really like this update. They could also do something with max speed, where stuff like bomb locks or other externally mounted hardware would make your craft less aerodynamic, reducing speed, while the integrated bomb bay will not, but reduces agility cause the structural integrity is weaker, so the plane can't withstand high G-force. Game balance vs realism, as always... but i see so much potential to marry them, and the devs have have built such a solid foundation in hoi4... i can't help but stay optimistic XD
@FeedbackGaming11 ай бұрын
From testing it's always better to get near the weight limit than it is to gain the extra agility from reducing the weight. The agility change for turrets is interesting

I've been thinking about the independent branch for airforce. You're paying 50 exp for 0.1 daily... meaning you're taking 1 and a half years to get to a net 0 it adds up, sure, but if you take it day 1 you're getting 250 net exp by 42. 200 if you switch it to something else like, it's not bad per say but what about the one that gives discount for your doctrine? 5 doctrines and you've gone to a net 0 already, and that can happen quite fast if you're engaged in battle or industry liasons(10% research speed for airframe models) that lets you build better planes slightly faster(its better if you're rushing and taking ahead of time penalty)
@FeedbackGaming11 ай бұрын
Honestly you're right. Its a tough call. To make the most of the XP officer corp ya gotta get it in 1936. Industry liasons only issues I only take advanage of it for very short windows so I tend to think its not cost effective

@@FeedbackGaming I was doing maths now(and trying to understand how research bonus work) and you might be right. it saves like 20 days of research, maybe a little bit more if you're taking ahead of time penalty but my brain melted trying to figure out how to calculate that edit: oh and also you can right click on aces to unnasign them
