Love seeing Hooper killing it in this video!!!! I still don't understand the kip swingup "pullup" followed by the faceplant seal pushup "burpee." I know it's what they do to win Crossfit, but it's the same as cheating the viking press, or not locking out a log press and calling those reps as "part of the sport." Hooper's pullups and burpees were on point. Very impressed at how well he can move his huge frame, with good form.

Yeah the “burpees” shown in both his CrossFit vids done by the supposed CrossFit experts were an absolute joke
@Tom.P-xv
@Tom.P-xv Жыл бұрын
The aim of the sport is different. Take the muscle up, a good rep is (more or less) defined as going from beneath the bar to the top position, only touching the bar with your hands. The aim is to do it as effieciently and quickly as possible. The swing allows you do that movement using as little muscular force as possible. The form isn't wrong, its just a different exercise, maybe it should be named differently. Same with a burpee, you have to touch the floor with your chest at one end and jump at the other - no need to do a stict pushup, and its more efficient to essentially fall to the floor than it is to lower yourself down.
@Brett.D

@allylilith5605
@allylilith5605 Жыл бұрын
it's optimization to the point, where it looks ridiculous to anyone who isnt from within the community, similar to 1inch rom on benchpresses in powerlifting. to me it also doesnt look like a burpee or a muscle up, but rather a throw yourself on the ground and bounce up and a bar swing. the rules probably are "lie on the ground and get up" and "get in a dip position and back down again" I imagine, which this technically qualifies for and is the most "efficient" way of filling those criteria
@lancefitzhenry5410
@lancefitzhenry5410 Жыл бұрын
@@allylilith5605 You're correct, the crossfit burpee standard is chest and thighs to the ground, then standing with a jump. Pretty simple, they are just trying to do them in the most efficient way possible since they are racing the clock. The bar muscle-up isn't being done strict (in this workout), so again they are trying to do them the most efficient way possible by doing a gymnastics kip. This is to help build momentum to get themselves over the bar and to lock out the dip on top. Muscle-ups (bar and ring) are very taxing and a difficult movement to master (Jason and Katrin are literally top 0.1% of crossfitters, so they make them look easy). Give one a try next time you're in a gym. Crossfit incorporates a lot of gymnastic movements. "Kipping" is a part of that.

@@justplinkin4809 I've been at probably 25 different CrossFit gyms. Only 1 had a no dropping rule. They shared the space and it had wood floors under the removable rubber that would easily crack. Most strongman gyms are cool with weight dropping too. As long as it's bumper plates not iron ones. The iron ones can snap in half if you drop them, dangerous and needlessly expensive. Bumper plates are made to be dropped.
@justplinkin4809
@justplinkin4809 Жыл бұрын
@@Jordy-927 I guess that explains it. I’ve never been to a CrossFit gym, actually never knew they existed, I’ve been in powerlifting and bodybuilding gyms with steel plates and even the ‘girly’ gyms with an abundance of machines only the girls used with the corner set up with free weights when I was on the road and could find nothing else. Heck, I’ve been kicked out for making too much noise, using chalk, and so on, from many of those ‘pretty’ gyms. I’m in my 60s now, wrecked my back at work so I only do what I can with stuff at home now but I love seeing what is being done these days.
@Jordy-927
@Jordy-927 Жыл бұрын
@@justplinkin4809 I almost got kicked out to the navy gym on the base I was stationed at one day for making too much noise when I failed a squat, and the bar was caught by the safety arms. I hear you. I only got into CF in my late 30s. I wish I would have ignored all the people making fun of it earlier in my life. I'm old enough now to just disregard what people think of the things I like. Lol I really like the ability to drop weights. It makes trying for PRs in my Olympic lifts more feasible. I train from home now, and even though I have bumper plates, I think dropping a couple hundred lbs in my attached garage would crack the floor and shake the whole house. I have a set of rogue crash pads in my cart, just waiting for a deal on shipping, lol.

Try to understand that someone disagreeing with you is not a 'hater'...there are practical reasons why crossfit is a joke in many respects, lack of form in favour of momentum being a key one...if you are happy to perform Frankenstein burpees and muscle ups, then go for it...but expect people to comment...it's called the real world, and sometimes we need to peek our head outside of our echo chambers to see what is really going on...

@@andrewgilbertson5356I'm worn out from the misuse of the word 'hate'...I believe that everyone has the right to express their opinion...if that opinion results in someone feeling offended or hurt, that is frankly the reality of the world. Everyone is so caught up in 'safe spaces' and censoring the voice of others, that we are closed to reaching a state of peak offence. Along with that, not many people have the courage of their convictions, and so they need to be protected from differing opinions...diversity is the freedom to be who you like, and not a fake form of tolerance which is in reality propaganda and censorship...I dislike many things I see, read and hear...BUT the dislike does not give me the rationale to label it as hate..that is weak and shows an inability to defend my opinion, which I will always do respectfully...all the best...
