So the creature in Swallow the Sea is clearly the ouroboros, and nowak mentions he worked cutting fish with his dad. We see at the end of swallow the sea the head of the ouroboros at a fish processing plant with the main creature. If this place is a subconscious world he created then it’s safe to say Nowak was working at that same processing plant.

Epilogue: News Report: *A Dead Man’s Masterpiece* A week ago, Paramedics were called to the scene after multiple witnesses reported seeing a man jump off a building in a possible attempt at suicide. Sadly, they were too late to save this man, who has been posthumously identified as Nowak Bosch, a worker at the nearby Ouroboros fishing industry. But what they found above his corpse was nothing short of both awe inspiring, gruesome, and beautiful. The work of art, which was able to be photographed before the rainstorm washed it away 2 hours later, was painted with the man’s own blood and brain matter. It is believed to have been painted over the course of 30 minutes, and was more than likely Nowak’s final act. There is a small shrine in the alley that has since erected by his coworkers in order to pay their respects to Nowak. There have also been requests made to recreate the painting Nowak painted in the Alleyway, with many titling it “Death’s Embrace”.
@the_ceo_of_funny10142 жыл бұрын
So I think the story goes like this: Nowak was an artist in life, is art actually didn't reach to anyone in particular, but is was more a thing he did for himself as an hobby, creating these big worlds full of goofy creatures. One day he died or did he? We don't know how he died, at the start of the game we see a guy falling off a cliff so mabye it was suicide, but is pretty irrelevant at this point. In the game we play wile Nowak is slowly dying probably from an head trauma concidering how he look in game and all the game is playing inside his head as we slowly get more and more confused from blood loss. So we are basically trapped in this coma/purgatory until we die. Bosch in this game is just another part of Nowak (at the start of the game he look pretty pissed when Nowak say his name so I think the name Bosch is just a made up name to not reveal the fact that he's Nowak), anyway "Bosch" just want all of this to end and to do that Nowak, the real one in real life, as to die. Bosch during the first run is fooling Nowak to basically end his life once for all. In the second ending Nowak refuse to do that, going back to purgatory. At this point Nowak find more about himself talking to the guitar old man skeleton and decide to get back to the point he was going to kill himself to instead make one last thing: make a painting, the thing he loved to do his all life and the most touching part is that the painting will not last, the rain will wash it away and nobody will see it, but it's ok because it's making it for himself and that's what matters in the end (also cool thing: in the game you get pigments from the blood of your enemyes and in real life you use blood to paint your final painting, SO COOL!!). To be honest I was a fool to quit this game after the first ending, this game is so damn touching and is kinda true in a way. I'm an artist too and sometimes I realize that the best things I made are the ones that I do to comunicate with myself because I feel I need the need of expressing myself. I think this game is a true piece of art in a way

"Bosch" was the manifestation of a repressed part of Nowak's personality. The body of Nowak's "killer" was actually himself, his body in the real world, because Nowak died from suicide. By killing his real body, Nowak/Bosch would embrace death. By refusing, they decide to live instead. But choosing to live means you have to deal with all the other brutal challenges that life throws at you for no reason.
@lachlanmccormick34862 жыл бұрын
@@aRandomFox00 I don't think "Bosch" is a repressed part of his personality _exactly,_ I think he might actually be the left hemisphere of Nowak's brain. I'm no expert on the subject but the "silent companion" things Bosch says reminds me of a video *CGP Grey* did called *You are Two.*
@QuantumWaltz2 жыл бұрын
@@lachlanmccormick3486 I'd agree with that assessment; it would mean Bosch is telling the truth (mostly) when he tells Nowak that they're both adults capable of having competent conversation. Technically speaking, they ARE each imagining the other, and each DOES represent the other's traumas, because they are two sides of the same coin, the two men/brains/psyches that cooperate to pilot Nowak's living body, and when everything is working as intended, they are locked in constant competent conversation with one another anyway. It's only forceful division that causes the brain to truly consist of two individuals, after all, rather than a near-symmetrical unit of redundant functionality. I'm going on a tangent here, but I do think it's important to remember that the data we have concerning the binary nature of the human brain comes from cases where the corpus callosum has been severed, forcing the brain hemispheres to adapt to their newly-isolated state. In a healthy, unaltered brain, the evidence seems to point to us being both one AND two at the same time, communication happening faster than thought so that the right hand can literally know what the left is doing. At that point, the concept of being "two" is so blurred that it may not actually apply. Separating the hemispheres may lead to two people residing in the same skull, but it only comes from the hemispheres being physically unable to share data directly. The more each half knows that it can't tell the other, the more different they become as people. That said, it is possible for the two halves of your brain to have different favorite colors (My left prefers blue, but my right gravitates to yellow, for example,) so the potential to be two is ever-present.

The victory music at 4:47 is actually a secret message hidden in a Hieronymus Bosch painting. In the painting the sheet music for the tune was tattooed on the butt of some guy being tortured. The track used in this game starts at 0:28 in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZ_VenavaKeWaLc
Fun fact: the sepulchre enemy is based off the pink bagpipe in hieronymus bosch’s artistic definition of hell. This also applies for the skinning homunculus, which was that thing that looked like a pair of ears with a knife blade in the middle.

From what I can see, the game is about depression and other topics I have yet to dig out from this. Throughout the game there are signs that your murderer was only yourself, and Borsch was trying to put an end to it all. That probably isn’t it, but I’d like to have other people’s views on this.
@certifieddumbass52662 жыл бұрын
i’d like to engage if u don’t mind,, many thanks for sharing ur thoughts and inviting discussion on this beautiful game, and apologies in advance for the following dump something i found interesting out of the way first, someone pointed out that nowak and bosch could represent the two hemispheres of the brain, referencing the split brain syndrome that arises from severing the corpus callosum. since silent companion / dominant side, communication, and art are touched upon, it would be fitting, especially as nowak’s yellow occupies their right eye and bosch’s purple occupies their left. though then again i could be reading too deeply into “two selves” and it could merely be the symbolic notion of confronting and conciliating with one’s shadow / demons as for your comment, i wouldn’t exactly say the game itself is about depression specifically, though i wouldn’t necessarily disagree with the notion. it’s heavily implied that he suffered from many psychological pains, but it’s ultimately kinda peripheral-the struggle of depression is not really relevant to the story, only the aftermath is. while the catalyst certainly seems to be nowak / bosch / the pitiful corpse’s suicide, this game isn’t really a narrative about depression that deals with finding a reason to live; it seems more akin to a journey of closure that focuses on making peace with death. i think it’s a common trope…a subconscious soujourn exploring one’s psyche depicted through a surreal and symbolic plane. kinda like the divine comedy sorta on the note of esoteric symbolism though, the sombrero skeleton with the guitar by the campfire…in his post-cutscene extra dialogue, he mentions the most beautiful name only having three letters, and hinted that they’d have the opportunity to talk again, even with nowak being unquestionably mere moments from death. the ambiguity is intriguing…i may be missing something, but the only words i could think up to plausibly fit within that context are either “You” “One” or “God”, though some folk argue little difference between the three anyway. anyway, i don’t think it’s too uncommon for God in media to be represented as a simple albeit enigmatic, strange yet familiar sage or bard of sorts who acts somewhat as a mirror to spur self-reflection and invite insights through abstruse metaphors and thought-provoking, hard-hitting big questions. as far as meaning and themes go…music is a biggie. it’s often philosophically used as a metaphor to depict life and attempts to find meaning / art in the patterns / illusions, generally more so than visual art due to its intangible and temporal yet evocative nature. it’s highlighted through the game’s title “hieronymus bosch’s brutal orchestra” and that bridging dialogue, which concludes with the revelation that differentiating between chaos and clarity is a matter of shifting one’s perspective / consciousness-the only thing that separates noise from music is understanding it as such, and the only thing that separates nowak from bosch is recognizing his reflection and reconciling with it. what makes this game interesting is that regardless of the ending, nowak, bosch, and the corpse that housed them both still die in the end-the only difference in whether or not everyone gets that satisfying closure and beautiful ending is whether or not nowak makes peace with his fractured self. in the true ending, the two aspects of nowak fight through dreamlike purgatory and defy death, or delay it at least, just to make a work of art depicting their journey and reconciliation - an image that i think is also seen when nowak takes his first step towards self-forgiveness by disobeying bosch and acknowledging that he didn’t deserve such a death. imperfect, ephemeral, and obscure as it may be, it’s still undeniably real and immeasurably meaningful to its artist / audience, which nowak poignantly emphasizes, are both conveniently present and the only ones it matters to. there’s a lot of metaphysical / philosophical / ontological / epistemological / spiritual / what have you discussion that portrays life as a whole much like that painting, but at this point i really have to apologize for the length and spare the tangent lmao endless thanks for offering this opportunity for me to spill my rambles
