The problem is Englishmen thinking that players, play the same as they do for their clubs when Arteta's and Guardiola's tactics and the roles that these players are given, are completely different from Southgate's tactics. One of the reasons Brazil, Spain, Germany and Italy excelled is because they played with their own style. Tiki-Taka, Ginga, Gegenpressing and defensive counter-attacks. England has no identity which translates itself into tactics except for them praising players for playing in the Premier League. Playing in the Premier League doesn't win you titles at the international stage. They always think that them having the Premier League translates to them having the best national team. They always forget that most teams play with more foreigners than Englishmen, like Arsenal for example. The Premier League is run by foreign players and foreign managers. They have a good, talented and young team but they are under bad management and this is a case of superstars not being able to play with eachother. One of the other reasons which might be a possibility is that kids grow up different in these countries. I'm from the Netherlands and even though we have players going to other clubs like Liverpool, most Dutch players grew up under the Cruyff playing style and are able to adapt quickly because they grew up with it even when they play for foreign clubs. The same goes for French players who learned to play in the streets and Spanish kids growing up playing street football in tight spaces. I don't know how that works in the UK but here in the Netherlands we have fields and courts all over the place and most youth teams try to incorporate tactics which are typically Dutch.

Im Liverpool fan and think maguire played well. He certainly offers us set piece threat. No idea why rice was whipping them in once maguire was off though. Reminded me of Kane on corners. The players I can't stand being picked are Henderson, Chillwell and Rashford. Granted Rashford has counter potential, but we've got plenty of young players that can do that, and actually track the ball back. Chillwell is my least favourite in that squad though, no idea why he's rated.
