He just does his thing, rockin’ steady, without glomming media fanfare, and has done it exceedingly well, establishing a career that is still going strong after more than 40 years. Bryan Adams is what people call an “army brat.” His father was part of the British and Canadian Army that became a foreign diplomat for the United Nations.
#5- "Heat of the Night”
The first single from the 1987 album Into the Fire. #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 #2 on the Mainstream Rock chart #7 in Canada “Heat of the Night” is a mighty rocker with a big chorus blasting Bryan’s full-chested vocal power.
“In the heat of the night They’ll be comin’ around. They’ll be looking for answers They’ll be chasin’ you down."
#4- From 1985….“Heaven” In my estimation, Bryan Adams’ finest vocal performance in the 80s. Adams can flat out wail in an uptempo number, or on a tender soft rock love song. That’s one of the qualities that separates him from other vocalists. He maintains that rough grittiness in his vocal delivery with tremendous commitment on every song he sings.
But, his technique tones it down just perfectly for the ballads.
#3- From 1985- “Summer of ’69” A out right classic if there ever was one. The genesis of the song’s theme was nostalgic, It was originally titled “Best Days of My Life” But, as Bryan elaborated on the lyric line. It evolved from getting his “first real 6 string at the five and dime", into a reflection on a 'coming of age' sexual relationship.
“Summer of ’69” rose to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 And #11 in CanadaThis song was a right of passage for every 80s kids.
#2- The title track to Bryan Adams 1983 album release ….“Cuts Like a Knife” #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 #12 in Canada
In ’83, Bryan Adams was poised and ready to pounce on his place in the music industry. “Cuts Like a Knife” was the track that established an identity in the rock world for Bryan Adams.
As many artists have told us, you just gotta let the magic flow. You never know when you’re gonna find it, but you know it when you hear it.
#1- “Run To You” The 1984 classic rocker written about a cheating lover running to his mistress. I think its my favorite song by Bryan Adams because of its immediacy. loved it the first time I heard it, and I never get tired of it. Musically it has layers of deeply emotion provoking soul searching resonance. I love the guitar sounds in this one. The lead single from the Reckless LP, and it was also the last track to be recorded for the album.

Absolutely. There's not a single weak track on it. Though imo Heaven is the standout track on it. YOu only have to watch the entire Wembley audience sing the first verse to him in 1986 after the intro, before he starts the whole of Wembley erupts.

It's one the few "perfect" albums, every track i'd give my eye teeth to have written just one line of lyric. I drove 160km to collect a CD Copy from 1986, just to get the original sound, I didn't want to risk it being lost in the post. I sits in my "Desert Island" collection alongside, Bat Out Of Hell, Exile On Main Street, Back In Black, Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous and Skynyrds "One More from the Road"

While I might have gotten 'Reckless' on cd (definitely had it on cassette), the first cd I remember hearing was something by Talking Heads -- maybe 'Speaking in Tongues?' Can't remember the song, but I do recall being blown away by the clarity. I'd never heard music over a stereo sound so crystal clear before.

To me, Summer of ‘69 is THE greatest song of all time. Even today, I’ll sometimes get a nostalgic tear when I hear it from remembering when that song came out, how innocent life was and how great the 80’s were in general. I can also still remember being 5 years old in 1983 and hearing Straight from the Heart and Cuts Like A Knife on the radio for the first time and I’ve been a fan of Bryan’s ever since. If you haven’t heard any of his recent stuff, go check it out. I’ve also admired his wanting to stay out of the spotlight and just make music you can enjoy forever

There's nothing like seeing Bryan Adams in concert and the way the crowd gets into his songs. Heaven, Cuts Like A Knife and Summer of 69 are absolutely amazing in concert. Have never seen a bad show of his, but my favorite was in December 1992. Mr Big was the opener and they just played all night long, was almost like they didn't want the show to end. Great memories of his shows, but that one really stands out to this day.

Bryan is the real deal, few touring artists today can match his catalogue of hits. I have been to four Bryan Adams concerts and he is one of the few classic rock singer i have witnessed that sings as good, if not better than he did when he was young, no tuning down of guitars or transposing of keys. Another thing that i really appreciate about Bryan is that its all about the music, no glitter and glam or political agenda. He puts on a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, goes out on the stage and gives his fans what they want. Another great video professor. Greetings from Norway.

I don't have a "favorite" song of Bryan Adams because he gave us numerous great songs through the decades. He along with so many other musical geniuses of the 80s, defined the best decade of my life. Bryan Adams became a legend the moment he hit radio stations around the world. And rightfully so... I will say it until I'm blue in the face... The 80s was by far the best era for music (music videos), movies, television, fads, and just being alive. No other decade will ever come close to what we had back then.

I became a serious BAD fan back in 1999, yes 21 years ago when I was a high school senior. Napster was in its prime, I was getting tired of listening to my peers' gangster rap. So I decided to expand my genres of tunes. I downloaded Summer of 69 back in '99 and fell in love with his tunes. It's also nice that he's from Vancouver as well since I grew up in Vancouver as a kid. As a local guy during my younger years, one of my high school teachers was close classmates with Bryan Adams. She consistently attested that he was determined to make it regardless of his small size and lack of academic ambition. His tunes has an ability to lift my mood.

I became aware of Bryan Adams as a 9/10 year old back in 1984 with 'The Summer of 69' and 'Run To You'. I liked his music alot but wasn't over the top about him. Then I'll never forget on a Saturday in 1991 when his world debut of his song and video for (Everything I Do) I Do For You on NBC. I got teary eyed listening to that song. Eventually I purchased his 'So Far, So Good' Greatest Hits cassette collection. Bryan is indeed among my top 15 singers and musicians ever! I've got so much of his studio recordings and even rare, live concerts on audio.

BA was and is still my fav. Such an under-rated singer, guitarist, song writer, and live performer. Anyone that has seen him live knows he sounds as great in person as on the albums. I guess he doesn’t get his recognition because he is unassuming but really should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, maybe someday. Great summary list. Someone said earlier the whole Reckless Album could have been on here. But so many classics on The Cuts Like a Knife album (This Time, Straight From the Heart, Best Was Yet to Come) and the underrated Heat of the Night album I loved Home Again, Rebel, and Native Son which all never got all play. Thanks for spotlighting Bryan.

Have always like Bryan. One of the best rockers to come out of the 80’s. As a musician I love to play his songs. They have so much power and I love the guitar work. Saw him live a few years ago and had so much fun. Nothing better than the sound of a Fender Stratocaster through an amp with no tricks or gimmicks! Gotta give some respect to his guitarist Keith Scott!

Finally, Rockers recognizing that Bryam Adams was a bona fide Rock 'n' Roll god. His albums Cuts Like a Knife and Into the Fire should be required to anyone who thinks knows about Rock'n'roll.

He puts on a helluva good show. His was my first concert in 1987, my 18th birthday present haha. I saw him again in 91 for Waking up the Neighbours. As good as both those stadium concerts were, I think my favorite was seeing him in 2012 (I think) on his Bare Bones tour. Just him, acoustic guitar and pianist. And a surprise bagpiper on Cuts Like a Knife which was honestly amazing.

Bryan Adams was one of my favorites in high school and i still play his stuff today. Every song feels like a life experience, a picture -a time machine. I got goose bumps watching this video. Amazing

Was 8 years old in '83 and some older cousins took me to see Brian Adams and Journey when they came to Denver on Easter. I was completely in love with that CUTS LIKE A KNIFE record. It was snowing pretty good and we missed Adams' show; I was crushed, but Journey brought the right medicine. Couldn't have said it then, but it's amazing how that psychedelic blues thing still had a presence in pop rock even up to that point.

Run to You and Can't Stop This Thing We Started - love that one. It brings back memories of the Blue Jays winning the World Series in 93. After Joe Carter hit the home run to win the game, they blasted this song on the TV as Joe was rounding the bases and coming home. Electrifying! "Touch them all Joe!"

Bryan Adams is most definitely part of the soundtrack to my teenage years. Waa so great to see him perform live in my home town of Inverness, Scotland in 2017. Cuts Like a Knife is an awesome track. 😁✌

Glad you gave Bryan Adams some love. For how many hits he’s had over the years, he should definitely be in the rock and roll hall of fame. So many great tunes. Hard to narrow it down to a top 5. I could easily do a top 10. I agree with your #1 pick too by the way. My top 5... 1) Run To You 2) One Night Love Affair 3) This Time 4) Cuts Like A Knife 5) It’s Only Love
