Love us or hate us, we'll still be out here busting our knuckles and breaking our backs. 120 degrees or -40, rain snow sleet or hail. Most of us have seen a friend crippled for life, and know that it could be us next. We don't need anbody's say so to be a hero. When I get back home my little girl runs up to me jumps in my arms, and tells me how much she misses me. In that moment, I have all the fame and glory any man needs.

Oh how this song gets me right in the heart! My husband worked in the oilfield from 1975 when we got married til about 2020. He worked as a roughneck, worked derricks, motorman, also as a flowback operator and as a mud logger, and also as a consultant. I tried not to cry as he was leaving for another hitch and knowing he might be gone for weeks or months at a time. I would wait til he was several miles down the road before crying. All the time saying as he was leaving, turn around and come back. He always said as he was leaving for a job,"I might as well go now or I might not go." He told me just a few days ago that the first few miles down the road from home that he always started to turn around and come home. But that he knew he had a family to take care of! We have been married 49 years,so most of our married life he worked in the oilfield in one capacity or another. To me oilfield guys are heroes, they miss and sacrifice so much, it is tough! I have a cousin that spent most of his married life in oilfield also and he recently retired and him and his wife have been married for about 46 years and they had two children just like we did.And we as their wives, learn to handle so much on our own while loving and being their support!

I have been reading and liking some of your comments. My dad is my #1 idol. I love him so much. My dad went to work in the oilfield field whe. I was 7 I am now almost 14. He is amazing at what he does a couple of state records. I have to say it is hard for everyone. I haven't seen my dad since new years when his boss gave him a day warning to leave. It is now almost April. If any little country girl reads this be strong because I guarantee it is also hard on the dad he is doing this for you not for him. It is still hard seeing him go after all the years. Never take a moment for granted please because I am sure someone else hasn't seen there dad and probably wants to. As for the writer of this song amazing you dont hear a lot of songs about oilfields. So thank you. Love Y'all bye

Did 32 yrs in the patch, the words resinate so much. Was able to retire at 55 and now make up for the things I missed. My son followed me into the oilfield and now knows the sacrifices made to give his family the best life possible. Would not change a thing. Great experiences many countries worked and great people worked alongside. Respect to all who work away from home. Be safe, be happy, be healthy.

I have a dad that works in the oilfield I don't get to see him every day like some people do I would be lucky if I get to see him more than 4 days a month I am 10 years old and he never knows when he is going to come home he misses birthdays and holidays and important days\things/events. For all I know he might not be home this Christmas. But I cry every time I hear this song because I know what it means. My oilfield dad is my hero he has always been I have always been a daddy's girl. If he says I have to go to town or I have to go somewhere I am with him but our most fun thing to do together was to go fishing.(don't let the makeup and hair fool you but I am country) I know why it means to work hard for what you have when my dad is laid off but I have NEVER gone without! I love my dad and nothing can change that.

It ain't a fun life, but I promise you as an rig hand myself every time your father goes to work there's not a single moment where he's not thinking about you, he wishes he could be anywhere else other than being on that rig, got a daughter myself who is about to turn 12, she's the reason I get out of bed in morning and do this job, we hate this job, God only knows how much we hate this job, but if your father grew up the way I did, I promise he took this job to try and give you the life he didn't have, I grew up poor, sometimes we didn't even have food in the house, sometimes we didn't know if we were gonna have a house to live in at the end of the month, that's why I took this job, and I also promise you, that when the time comes you're dad will do everything he can to make up for all the time he lost with you, I know I will with my own daughter, keep your dad close and pray for him every night, speaking as a roughneck, if he knows that you're praying for him it'll mean the world to him

This song touches me so much because my dad used to work in the oilfield and was gone for several weeks and only home for about 1-2 weeks. And would never be home for Christmas, Thanksgiving, first days of school, first words, and even birthdays. But I remember one time when I was about 4 I called him and asked "Daddy when are you coming home?" And he started crying and said "I'm coming home now" so he left his hotel a couple weeks before he was even supposed to come home just to see me. Now I am 12 years old. Love you Dad now and forever!

We live in south Mississippi and this is just the way of life down here. People ask how do I do it with 5 kids and he’s always gone. Since the oilfield crash of 2015. He’s had to switch to land rigs and now it’s more like gone 6 home 2. We do it together because we have to!!!! Bryan you said it perfectly. Thank you for sharing your song. I hope it goes Platinum.

I am a HUGE fan of Frank Foster and have been listening to him for a while now. My boyfriend has been a fan of his since he first started playing gigs in Northeast La. but he didn't start taking me to concerts until I asked him about it a couple of years ago. He said well I didn't think you would want to go! Well silly goose, country is some of the best music out there! That and gospel is the only thing I sing when I get the chance! Gospel in church and country whenever someone will listen and I can snag a mic! I was told once by a talent scout that I wasn't exactly what he was looking for at the moment but to keep going around and singing at every little place that had an open mic night or karaoke and someone would hear me one day and snap me up. I took that to mean, I sang really good but he wasn't looking for a fat girl. I was way bigger back then than what my picture looks! I don't know if you have been able to sing in front of a lot of people yet but wait until you get your first high from singing in front of a large crowd! I had mine back in the late 90's early 2000's when I got to sing in front of 2,500 people and received a standing ovation! And seeing grown men cry after I sang the National Anthem was pretty cool to know I had moved someone at even a small crowd with a song that says it all about what it is to be an American! It is an addictive feeling! Anywhoo.....I just wanted to tell you that I like the song and love the fact you are pairing up with Frank's boys! Who knows maybe he will sign you one day! Be careful out there on that rig, it's a dangerous life. I remember seeing my uncle come in off the rig with a big old duffel bag full of dirty clothes, hug us all and then go fall in bed for about 2 days. Good luck to you too man! Candie

woke up this morning to my good morning text from my dad this song was included in a tiny link. I’m 17 and my dads worked in the field since i was 7 and not a day goes by that it gets easier. My heart goes out to all the kids who have grown up with parents who work all the time. I’ve been angry with him and sad that he’s missed a lot of milestones but after listening to this song i finally feel a little bit better definitely not completely but Ik he works hard for what i have. It’s hard going 4 months at a time not seeing him and then only getting him home for 3 weeks if I’m lucky.

I love it, my husband's not a oilfield worker per say. He's a environmental driller, he's only home about 1 week out of every month. and it's not a full week together. it's Saturday and Sunday. then gone again.. it's a hard life, but.

this song is dedicated to my amazing father I love him so beyond much, he works on the rigs and he goes to PA every single week and he only comes home on Sunday's, I just want to thank all the real men who get out there and do a job that they have to dedicate their lives to. I'm thirteen and I have always had a father who worked on the Riggs he's missed slot of things but I know it tears him up just as much as it does me thank you dad for always working hard and making sure I didn't only have my essentials bit also the things I wanted I love you dad thank you for everything ❤

Love this song.......our hearts are always so sad to leave home and work in this industry......I'm an Oilfield Mom/Woman......my girls are grown up but let's just say when I leave each and every time and when I arrive back on the beach after the chopper lands...my girls, family & friends makes me feel so special & happy. We work hard, we are lonely at times and we count down the days we are away...when chopper eve arrives it's the beet job in the world for we get to go home to our families & friends!

I miss my husband so so much. We hardly ever see each other or talk. The kids ask about him a lot, especially his 12 yr old son. My son says he wants to be just like his dad. That young man has a strong heart. My husband works for us. I'm so proud of my husband. May God bless each and every pipeline and their families at home. My God I can't wait to feel your arms hug me, I can't wait to hear your heart beat when I lay my head on your chest. Be safe!

Anyone that works in west texas atm will know my daddy Jeremy Davidson, he is my hero, hes worked so hard for us and my momma I have 2 siblings and my dad is the best thing I've ever had in my life, hes worked on the rig since he was 20 years old and has worked his butt off on that rig he's worked himself up, hes gotten sober for 2 years now almost 3, I am so proud of him and my momma also, he has given us the best life I could ever ask for I love my daddy to death, he could get hurt trippin pipe at any second and my hero could be gone so I thank god for the blessed life that I have with my 2 brother and amazing momma and daddy, I am so thankful. I love oilfield dads, no one knows hard work till they've worked on an oilfield

I met my husband 9 years ago. He is 6 yrs older and has been a welder since he was 18.. I travelled with him until our oldest started school this past fall. Now I'm home with kids and he is gone.... it's hard. Very very hard. I love listening to songs like this because I know I'm not alone. I did travel for 9 years with him so it's even harder. I was used to being away from family. It was just me and him against the world. Now it's me and kids against the world while daddy is gone... sad.

My dad has been a travel construction worker since I was born. I’m 15 and he has missed so much to give us a good life. It’s hard but it makes the time we do have together matter so much more. Sometimes I get mad when he can’t come to things because he has another job but I never realize how he feels

My Daddy & Grandfather worked in the oil field offshore in Louisiana. I thought that's what I needed to do so I left my wife & daughter to do the same. Left them all alone in Tennessee. Yes the money was good. But I lost my family. It's not worth it & I regret it every day of my life. Now my daughter is grown with my only 3 grandchildren. Now we don't speak because she thinks I abandoned her but not knowing I was trying to make her life better. But I only made it worse. So if you're a Dad don't do it. Because there is no such thing as an Oil field Dad. You can't be a Dad when you're never home. But this is a great song
