I heard this song when I was homeless; lost my house and job while trying to help my own sister. Resulted in a depression that even two civil wars couldn't do. Hearing this song while getting some rest behind a random garage made me realize what others (grandpa) have sacrificed for me and got my ass right back in gear. I was still hurting but I went to therapy, got into business school, met the love of my life and now again listening to this song with my son and daughter. Thank you sir.

Parents divorced when I was 4. My dad gave my mom a chance to be in our lives, she chose not to. But our dad, he raised me & my sister by himself he got some help every now & then, no child support. Took us to & from school, whatever school activities that schools was doing he was there. He even had to work nights for a few years, something that he really didn't want to do but did it. Sad to say we grew up without a mom and times were tough, but we pulled through because of him. I love you dad.

Song reminds me so much of my baby brother. He had his first child at 16, and immediately got a job on a shrimp boat to provide for his new family. On his 17th birthday, our father signed for him to enlist into the Marine Corps. He did three tours in Iraq, and was even wounded in fallujah. After the service he got a job offshore drilling, and worked countless hours every week to build a comfortable civilian life for his family. I watched as he deteriorated when he got sick. He beat it, and went right back to work to continue to provide. He overcame so much in life only to be hit by a stray bullet at a gas station half a mile from our fathers house in 2014. Rest in Paradise baby bro u were double the man anyone I know could ever be in half the time! You were always able to keep the wolves away. I’m so proud to be your big brother. Miss you so much man.

It doesn't have to be this way. We have all been deceived by an illusion that life for the majority is always a struggle. This is so far from the truth yet we accept that we have to work for some corporation and we accept what they want to pay. Their share holder dividends should be a huge clue to the amount of money they make off the poor they give bread crumbs to for their blood and tears. This can change. Start talking about it. The more we bring awareness out, the faster things will change. Tgere is enough resources in this world to take care of double the population in excess of having too much.

ADANAC Sadly alot of people don't ever realize this. Most kids without a father growing up were told that there father leftt. That isn't even remotely true. The majority were forced out of their homes by government, which got going from their wife. Sadly the kids are brought up believing falsehoods. They don't know there dad was providing for them since they were born, and after the divorce. The old days were different, but now you're supposed to take certain things for granted, while propping up mediocre behavior. Nowadays just being a mother deems you the right to claim yourself a great, or, good one. As a father if you don't do half of the inside work,( as well as all the outside work he was already doing) then he is somehow lazy, or terrible. As Rodney Dangerfield always said "No respect I tell ya, no respect". No wonder marriage rates are plummeting. Good for you for realizing that though. It most certaintly is something all fathers hope their kids will realize someday. Be grateful for knowing that truth.

Yes sir. My dad sacrificed his health and his happiness working himself to exhaustion every day for my family so my mom could stay home and nurture my brother (RIP, hung himself last year) and me. He never let on how tired he was or how much strain it put on him. Now that I'm the breadwinner for my family, I do the same thing because I learned it from him. I work long hours every day, for months, years at a stretch "to keep the wolves away" and so my wife can be home with our kids. I consider it a privilege to work so hard and be so tired, because I know I'm doing my best for my family, and setting an example of how a man leads and takes care of his wife and children.

My dad raised me & my brother by himself. After having his neck broken by machinery in a plant. With my mom having just left & his dad dieing and him selling his harley all at the same time. The harley to pay for the funeral. Going to collage for 2 degrees and working 2 jobs while still making time for me & my brother to be a good dad. I don't think I could ask for better. I'm 21 now. I am a former correctional officer. And, I am now a Army Tanker(19k) in the United States Military. Every time I hear this song it brings me to tears knowing that my dad is getting old and that one day I won't have him around. I am very thankful for him. I hope one day I can be half the man he is.

I'm a 34 year old father of 2. I work in a coal power station. Hats off to anyone that fights off their wolves everyday! I fight a pack of wolves every second of everyday. I've been struggling to stay sober bc I've wasted to many years of my life running with the same wolves that now have turned on me. Im blessed that my father is and has been the rock in my life. Guilt overcomes me when thoughts burn through my mind of all the wasted memories that I destroyed by worrying about when I needed my fix. Now that I'm able to clearly think, my dad has moved on to Texas and it's not as simple to just stop and visit. I hate myself for wasting all the golden opportunities that I had of making memories with him. Ever since I became a father to my son, i can only dream of always being there for him like my dad was for me. I hurt so bad in my soul bc I know that all the time thats past can never be presented to me again. God bless everyone of u! Stay strong and don't let the wolves blow down the house that u created! Him, his Father, Brothers , Uncles & Cousins fought & settled my small hometown. HE KEPT THE WOLVES OUT LITERALLY. I'm very Proud of him & his Daddy who got murdered bc he was blind for $2.00.

Makes me cry everytime. My grandpa died to ALS after a fall triggered a calcium deposit in his neck. Left my dad two farms at the age of 26. I was alone in the woods last weekend on a work trip after everyone else went to bed, I was listening to this song as I have 1000 other times but something was different. I felt my late father do that last whistle and it broke me. Thank you so much for your music and I will never forget that moment.

I work 60 hours a week driving a HGV wagon. 4 kids and all that, this song resonates with not only oil workers, but any man that goes out @5:30 am rain or shine for 12 hours a day to look after his family. Great song and message brother.

I've spent every night this week sleeping beside my dad in palliative care. He's 59 years old, by the time he was 30 he had six kids and divorced. Both him and my mom worked as janitors at elementary schools, care aids, drove bus and cleaned windows to make ends meet. Sitting beside him every night I can't even begin to imagine the sacrifices he made "to keep the wolves away." It's a disservice to sell us a facade of what life is supposed to be in movies; life is hard. It's full of pain, grief, work, sacrifice and if we're lucky love, compassion, gratitude, and generosity. This song matches the authenticity of life. Thank you so much Uncle Lucius!

Wish I could say I was a mom who had SOMEBODY while ALL the struggles are real..mental, physical, emotional, and fucking unbelievable the hell I'm left to deal with SOLO. YOLO. And God gave his greatest battle to his strongest soldier to deal with the devil(maybe even 3 lol). But today I still stand maybe not as tall, but counting my many blessings. The heart hurts, for many reasons, all being my own stupid fault. That just means the devil needs to grow a few inches here and there and THEN come talk to me. Cuz death already has me knocking on heaven's door and through the tears I just laugh without fear. Only sorrow for what more I could have been..possibly still could be. Maybe 1 dayday. @TennMan423 can't lose a civilizational war to absolute evil 80 years ago & expect there to much good left... it's why the Civilizational centers are growing in the places where that evil was expelled like China, Russia, & Iran. My old man worked his overtime to keep the wolves away as me and my sister were growing up in hard times. Meanwhile our mom took his kids 1600 miles away with the new love interest in the dark of night while he was slaving away at his second of two full time jobs. Luckily after a few years of domestic violence both of his kids wound up with him where they belonged. Fast forward nearly 20 years I’m happy to say I get to work every day with my old man side by side at our dream job as professional firemen. This song reminds me of the grind he went through to provide for us when so many men are quick to run. He’ll never see this. Thank god. But thanks dad.
