Are Snap-On tools great quality? Yes, absolutely, and I buy used ones all the time. Are they worth getting into serious debt for? Absolutely not. I love Snap-On tools, but I don't love the way they hook people into making payments forever. Their business model isn't based on selling tools, it's based on selling credit to buy their tools. Don't fall for it! Buy what you can afford, upgrade when you need to or want to, stay free of debt, and don't sign your life away.

Great advice to round out this video. My son is getting an associates degree in diesel technology right now. As I've been purchasing tools for him, he turned me on to Tekton, and they have really impressed me. I've tried warning my son that, Snap On, Mack, Matco, Cornwell etc all have nice tools, but it's really easy to get way in debt, only to look back and realize you didn't NEED some of those tools. I couldn't agree more with the point you made about some truck tools seeming "gimmick-y" or over thought. Solid wrenches and sockets will get you a lot farther then you think.

After using every brand of tool known to man (60 yrs old) and finally refreshing a lot of my tools last year with Tekton I wholeheartedly agree. Tekton makes tools at nearly the same quality at a fraction of the cost. Really high value. And your comment is spot on about about newcomers to the trade: go for value. Stay away from debt and your life will be much happier. Nothing feels worse than making payments on stolen tools.

I've heard horror stories about Snatch-on's return policy! You know what Tekton does? Take a digital picture, email it, with your physical address, (they already have your email address) and they mail you a new one. Here is what they say; Tekton tools are Always Guaranteed®. Once a tool becomes yours, we're available to help you no matter where you got it or how long ago. Our guarantee has no time limits and no fine print-just personalized solutions. Shipment of replacement parts is always on us. I'm pretty sure that would cover used or found tools, as well. Funny thing, back when I was a youngster, me and a few friends were renovating a cheap leaky boat. I found a "ratchet shaped object" in the bilge, and could see the Craftsman name on the handle. Told my buddies, "this looks like a new ratchet." Next day, it was! steve

Lot of good taiwan tools out there and at amazing prices. all my daily impact sockets are taiwan and hold up and work great and fifth of the price of snapon on a deal day . Life warranty not that important too and at snapon prices even if warranty at least twice you still not seeing value. I can self warranty mail order 1 or 2 days, get napa deliver tools same day with parts or even go out and pick something up locally if real stuck but that never happened to date. Some things snapon make are great design thus worth having but that list is pretty short., german stahlwille, french facom, japan koken, taiwan Infar, kabo, rotar, kuani etc have world class top design feature tools at total value pricing . I could not of built my business up if had wasted thousands to a truck tool tab ... also wouldn't of had such a great usable tool collection ...

Ive got koken sockets and ratchets over 25yrs of professional use and they do pretty good, not busted any sockets or extensions, did bust a breaker bar many years back .

I love my Tekton socket set, I think they make great tools in general. I think professional brands like Snap on, Proto, Blackhawk, SK, Mac, Matco , Wright, have there place though. It's just crazy to buy all your tools of one of those brands you would spend way more than you need to. Personally one tool I think it's worth spending the bigger dollars on are combination wrenches. You take something like the Snap on flank drive, or Wright grip wrenches no cheaper brand wrench can even come close to comparing especially with the open end of the wrench. Bolt extractors are another tool it's worth buying the professional brand. Because if you are in a position where you need an extractor it's gotta work, at that point the last thing you need is it to slip or break.

Yes but your paying for where it’s made, the warranty and it’s just nicer to use, I bought a 3/8 ratchet 15 years ago on a trip to the USA, roll forward to last year I dropped it and a small section of the chrome flaked off, I found a distributor here in Ireland and they just gave me a new one... no BS .. didn’t ask for a receipt.

The snap on tools break like any other , but takes more abuse , however if you're in need of a replacement, sometimes you can calls snap on and he will show up within 20 mins depending on where he is ... Wow listen to how harsh those gears sound on that ratchet compared to the snapon. How do the Tekton tools hold up? How hard is the warranty. Part of what we pay for with the snap on tools is that truck drives up to your shop[ and you get warranty on the spot.

Tekton is a lifetime no questions asked warranty no matter if you're the original owner or not and it's a 2 day delevery of the replacement once you submit a picture of the broken tool on their website. I haven't needed it yet but apparently they are top notch at replacing anything. With the tool truck you might have to wait a week for them to show up and then hope that they even have it or you'll be waiting longer. Not to mention if they decide to send it back for rebuild rather than giving you a new one

I discovered Tekton tools years ago. In about 2015 Tekton offered a 135 piece mechanics tool set with carrying case, a selection of the most common sizes in SAE and Metric wrenches, 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/2” drive ratchets and sockets, together with a wide assortment of hex drive bits for Torx, Phillips, Allen, etc., plus the hex bit driver and one extension for each size socket drive, all for $62.99 delivered, from Amazon. That set, Tekton part number 1859, is no longer available, but what a bargain it was. I use it daily and would buy another one if they were still available. The good quality Harbor Freight impact sockets work well, as do their long handled metric wrenches for getting into tight spaces. As some of us find out the hard way, chrome sockets can be easily destroyed by impact drivers. I like used Snap-On Tools, but new ones are beyond my budget. Thanks for the video.

Surprised by the price of the SO dead blow; it's on par with other quality dead blows. The screwdrivers were expensive, but IMO the ratchet is worth its cost. This being said, I'm very impressed by Tekton - from the packaging and presentation to finish quality. I have their 3/8 impacts, pliers made by Wilde that Tekton sells at a lower cost, and a sample pack of the screwdrivers. No complaints. Thinking about it, I paid $6 for the 4-pack of screwdrivers. Wanted to check them out. Their tips - PH1 and PH2 - fit fasteners surprisingly well. I'm pretty tempted to go for the 6-point ratcheting wrenches you showed.

If the tool trucks don't do something different I could see them being phased out down the road. There's so many companies making good tools with even better warranties for a much lower price. The turn around time for getting tools warrantied or rebuilt can be pretty crazy if the truck doesn't have it. The days of that being a good warranty are gone. I've got several Tekton tools that have been used all day everyday for over a year now and not one of them has had an issue. I almost want something to break so I can try out their warranty but so far it hasn't been needed. I think the high price of the truck brands has replacement/rebuild factored in several times over so they never lose money on the tool.

Set price aside. I'm just interested in quality of the products. I'm also interested in your opinion of ratcheting wrenches vs old school box-end wrenches. Unsure if you have the tools to do this kind of review, but whatever you're able to put together would be helpful. During my time in the military, we only used Snap-On and I appreciated the quality. However, as a home DIY occasional mechanic, I'm interested in finding something comparable to Snap-On quality, at a cheaper price. Unsure if SK is possibly at that same level of quality. What's most important is a completely honest review. If SK is great, but still not as good as Snap-On, let me know. Again, leave price out of the review. Mechanics prefer the large brands for 3 reasons. 1, The tools come to you, you need something, your a snap-on man, you phone him up and he is on his way. 2, Payments, greatest thing on earth for a company. They set aside so much money per month, week, or whatever for tool costs. for a job that needs a $90 tool, you cant charge an extra $90 for the job, you can charge some but it has to be included into labor costs. Most of the time is a flat rate, so you can get the tool and add it to the payment, bumps payment up $5 and you put your new tool in your box and move on with life. By the next time you have to add another tool, the first is or is almost paid off. 3, Most tools can supply home-gamers with all the thrills of changing their own oil in their nissan. But for the guy who is going to do it 100 times a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year... Not so much. The reason Snap-on tools are sooooooo high is your buying a tool that assures you that this IS THE BEST for doing THIS job, and there is no denying it. That's why they are still sold, that's why there are still around. Any shop teacher, professional, or anyone who has a life time of experience with tools will tell you "Cry once" Yes you will spend a shit ton a cash, ONE TIME, not every 4 months when you have to buy that 3/8 ratchet yet again because that last bolt was actually welded and you have stripped the gears in your milfuky ratchet. Yes you can buy cheap tools but for the ones who use them EVERY DAY and EVERY WAY. Snap-On, Matco, Mac.. only tools to use.

I would say its a matter of the tool steel used. Snap On tools are all made in the US with a very high grade of tool steel where as their budget line Blue Point tools are made in the likes of Asian countries with a lower quality steel. In India, for example, there are factories that manufacture wrenches and sell them to 3rd parties brands. Sealey Tools wrenches are made in India. Tekton are made in several countries, including some in Asia so are probably, quality wise, on par with Blue Point. The cost of Snap On reflects the manufacturing labor costs, the US rate compare to Asia.

It's the premium of supporting American made products. SK is a great balance of quality and price. Way better than snap on pricing. People in this country seem to want a minimum wage, yet fail to realize what that means. When these other tool companies bring you prices like this, how do you suppose they're doing so? Pretty sure a whole lot of slave labor is involved. If Apple had foxconn install suicide nets for factory workers making iphones, what do you think the industrial sector looks like over there?
