My first motorcycle in 1968 was one of these. I seem to remember the seat being flat, not with a dip in it. Everything else looked the same as this one. Loved riding it. If I was younger, I’d get another.

Nice work sir, my own A10 is a 52 vintage, just rebuilt the motor, new pistons, main bearing, big end shells etc, goes and sounds great. Mine also has the audible gear indicator to let you know you're in 3rd.

I remember this model well, a lovely bike in its day. In 1957 or 58, a friend of mine had one in Westport, New Zealand. We were young and in our teens then, i was riding a B33, 500 single with a rigid rear frame, a dual seat had been added, it was quite a grunty bike for a single cylinder. Other mates rode similar sized bikes to mine, for example, one had an AJS 500, single. Ron was one of the last to get a bike and because he had lost his mother at a young age, his father tended to favour him somewhat, hence the purchase of the Gold Flash, which at the time was up there with the nicer bikes of the era. Robert, (79yo) New Zealand.

The first bike I ever had a ride on Paul, my dads second bike[think dads was a 53 model] after he learnt on an Ariel Square Four 1000. He put me on the petrol tank lying down[pre infants school] and took me and bike across some local fields. I recall over a bump hitting my chin on a friction steering damper, that was the day he sold it due to health issues. Over 60 years ago, my current bike is a Fazer 1000 and I love riding around Wales on ity.

I actually learned to ride a motorcycle in 1973, when I was 16, on a 1953 green A7 500cc Plunger that had pulled a sidecar for years beforehand. It had no silencers, no seat padding whatsoever and cost me £15 off my mate, Simon Evans, here in Burry Port, South Wales.

Back when they made real motorcycles for transportation. They had heavy fenders to keep the muck off the Ryder. Bikes like this would also be equipped with an enclosed chain to make the chain last forever. They were real transportation in the old days. These bikes will be around forever. With proper care and proper maintenance they are superbly reliable

That is quite a tidy bus, and I wish you had an intercom because the A10 loves a good chat, being tall geared and all. I hope the dual-seat wasn't too crippling, and those plungers well and true. Not quite the heavenly creature it became which makes it almost perfect as it is. It can tackle any gradient, and through bumpy bends await for the rider to catch-up, so best not hurry. The affordable world-tourer.

I wonder what the engine number is? Mine, also a plunger was BA10 8965. Many years later I spotted BA10 8966 on display at a M/C show at Belle View, Manchester! Great ride, I knew several of those roads well in the 50s and 60s although, they were generally narrower then.

The choke is half-on
@paulhenshaw45146 жыл бұрын
No, it is off actually. When the lever is in that position, the choke is all the way off. Bigger, taller carbs such as the 89 series use more lever movement than this.
