In this video I show how I prepared the engine for removal from the BSA B31 including partial dismantle of the engine. Removal of Inner primary cover, dynomag, sump plate, oil feed pipes, head & barrel. My 2022 project begins here!
As always this is how I did it and not a tutorial, always refer to your own workshop manual.

Thanks so much for your channel. My first bike was a 1952 Francis Barnet which I got for 5 pounds in 1963. No idea how to ride a motorbike when I got it but a few quick lessons from the man who owned it and I was off. The love of bikes has always stayed with me and I am 76 now. The man who ran the boiler room where I did my apprenticeship owned a lovely green BSA B31 that he kept in the boiler room and spent a certain amount of time each day polishing it. I always lusted after this bike but never owned one. I shall enjoy watching your restoration so much. Cheers Martin.

Biult to last these old singles. If you really want to go the full hog? Get everything dinamicly balanced, & do a Devonmead conversion by replacing the timing side main bearing, with a needle roller bearing! You won't beleave how much better the old B31 will go! Sosmooth.

Hi, I just buy a B31 and start to repair it. I see on the vidéo a shim under the magdyno (?) but not on my book. Is it a homemade one ?

You may not have or need any shims. The shims are there to make sure there is enough play (backlash) between the gears. Look for part numbers 66-2347 or 66-2348 or make some from brass shim stock 0.005". My shim is home made and was already on the bike.

@@InTheShedUK Hi again. I have an other question. Is the magdyno hold on the engine only by the strap ? I see no screw or bolt under the magdyno ! Thanks for advices.

@@didiervignati3716 should be a strap that hold the dyno to the mag and a longer strap which holds the complete assembly on to the crankcase, also locating studs (either plain or threaded) in the base of the mag that locate in slots in the crankcase.
