Both of these Motorcycles look truly superb. To choose between the two is a difficult decision for any modern retro enthusiast. After test riding the RE I was hooked…it is everything you want in a cool looking bike & does it with style… If the cost of the new BSA Goldstar is similar to that of the Royal Enfield Interceptor then owning both would be the logical choice (budget permitting). These are both plenty powerful (even if a more powerful version of the BSA is produced in the future). If you are needing more than 45 to 47 bhp, (which is more than adequate to put a smile on your face whilst easily capable for motorways) then these bikes are really not for you! Get yourself a superbike!! These Motorcycles look amazing & I cannot wait to give the BSA a test ride when they arrive. 👊😎👍 Great impartial video. Thank you.

I’ve ridden for 41 years and I define while yes standard bhp is good enough I would like another 10 or 15 bhp mainly for safer overtaking. This would bring it up roughly level with a good original Commando which would suit me fine. You don’t have to go from one of these retros to a superbike there are other options but not on price. For me the looks and price are the reason I went with my Interceptor and after 18 months I’m happy 😊👍

I love the way that Royal Enfield are sweeping under the carpet that the 120 plus years of production is definitely not continuous. After Royal Enfield closed in England at the end of the MK2 Interceptor at Upper Westwood tunnels (1970) there was a gap as Royal Enfield and Enfield India Madras were two separate companies. Enfield India was just a company producing bikes under licence and did not own the Royal Enfield name just a licence agreement to manufacture early style Bullets not the last type produced in the UK. The Royal Enfield name is also still thought to be owned by Aerco and not legitimately by Eisher. The bikes made in India had Enfield of the manufacturer plate not Royal Enfield this appeared in the mid 90s and this is still in question with some over rights. Yes Enfield have been around but not continuous for 120 years under the Royal Enfield banner.

I have been a BSA fan all my life; I am 66 now. When I first saw it I said I want one, but if they are going to produce a more powerful one later in the future; why buy the first model? I now think I will wait until either they are produced or an American company like S&S get their hands on one. It will be a bigger bore and hotter cam etc. It is a mistake to market the first models as a lower powered model. It’s simply not good marketing to tell people that you will produce a better model in the future, but we will sell you an inferior model at the launch. Maybe the Indians don’t understand how the west and true motorcyclists think. Produce the most powerful first; as did the Japanese and then refine or detune it.
@johnmartin11142 жыл бұрын
Good start for a reboot company but probably won't do as well in America as royal Enfield twin most America's roads are not conducive for a large single cool bike and I hope they sell gadzillions of them

It's a A2 or learner license bike & in India a 650 is a large capacity bike but you're right they should of released a more powerful 650 for more skilled riders but 57-60hp be about it I reckon for un- detuned models.

Good video. Thank you. Ready to choose one of these two. Started riding in 1985 aged 16 and stopped in 2016 after cancer and divorce. These two tempted me back to two wheels after a shitty period and my first new bike since a Yamaha RD350LC YPVS in September 1987. I don't care a damn if they're fast or not at this point in life. I'll choose after a good test ride on both.

We are glad you are ready to get back on the saddle. The pricing of the BSA is also very tempting and in par with the Enfield 650. Both of these machines would bring back 'bare bone motorcycling' feel.

Ach! Will I ever be so satisfied with their specs as to start selling things to own one? I won't be happy until they're as light as the originals. Also, a NO electric start option. The electric start was one of the first things I removed as a young man with my used Nortons and Triumphs. Today, with the addition of an air-light battery you can lose another 15 pounds that way! They are really getting close!
@allaboutautomobiles.2 жыл бұрын
Steven, these are the closest thing in 2022 that represents bikes of the 1960's. As mentioned they have technology that is mandatory to make them legal and nothing else. It's just the machine and your right wrist that controlls her, nothing else, just the way bikers prefer it.

Quite different bikes. Look at the rake figure on the BSA it’s not going to turn as sweetly as the Enfield and the single probably isn’t going to be all that unique looking as it is a derivative of the Rotax single made for BMW years ago.

A few points. The build quality of the BSA appears to be shoddy in places. Maybe the bike displayed was only a prototype and this will improve in the production model. The fat covering on the exhaust is an eyesore. Finally cost will matter a lot. People in the west are not going to buy this unless it is within $500 of the RE. RE is able to keep cost down due to large production numbers. Finally why are Indians excited about this? There are currently no plans to launch this in India and the BSA trademark in India is held by another company.

Agree, there is a possibility that the Indian launch may be delayed, especially if they are considering to launch it at a price above the RE twins. The BSA is obviously built for the Developed Nations, where a single cylinder bike is like a different experience.

Why are these bikes so heavy compared to the original bikes they pretend to copy even if there are lots of plastic parts on them. Lose weight and the overall handling will improve.
@allaboutautomobiles.2 жыл бұрын
The same reason the Porsche 911 weighs almost double than the original. Or any automobile in general (apart from the heavy V8 American muscle cars, they were heavy to begin with) the original in the 60's had no safety feature and basic engines, and they have evolved to heavier vehicles in 2022 but with considerable advancements made. But again in this case these bikes are basic to begin with, so yes, you do have a point there.

What was the point of this video? There was nothing in it that is not already stated on the bikes' web pages. I expected a comparison of machinery and materials. What will wear out soon, what will last, what is more efficient. E.g. the Goldie's twin cams vs. the Enfield's single: does the BSA's performance offset the weight of the extra cam? Adjustment, maintenance, mechanical noise? Comparisons of gear ratios, clutch, final drive chains. Come on, give us something intelligent, not this Aspi Bathena-like juvenile monologue. Watch some videos made by western reviewers. Learn from them. I am sure, sooner rather than later, some Englishman or American will post a proper comparison, and you will have missed the bus.
