One of the very few British bikes that deserves a sympathetic rebuild. This was the original cafe racer. Superb work!

Back in 1964 or 5 while in the RCN another matelot bought a brand new 500 Goldy still in the crate and when we unpacked that thing it had a bunch of stuff like rear-set controls and clip on bars packed in that crate. He weighed all of 120 lbs and couldn't kick that thing over without using the compression release. I had a 58 TR6C with the high pipes, SS tranny and compi mag and on our annual leave we rode those two bikes through the Roger's Pass from Esquimalt BC. to Calgary Alta. when a lot of it was still gravel highway. He put a Wahl Phillips fuel injector on that thing and it flew but was real sensitive to elevation changes. Boy those are good memories.

Wonderful bike, beautifully presented. The one I saw at a show didn't tick over, whereas that one seemed quite happy. Another criticism from someone was that they sometimes won't start. If the magneto is in good condition they start anywhere anytime. One commenter said no one wanted them ? They were very popular when I was riding in the mid to late 60's, so am not sure where he was coming from. Mind you £45 to £50 was a good buy, that must have been late 50's ? IMHO one of the best bikes to grace any road anywhere in the World, thanks :)

It depends on what carb was fitted. The original Goldie had a racing Amal GP carb. That was designed for full throttle running, so no, it wouldn't tick over. Many restorations sacrificed performance for ridability on today's congested roads and went for a more "civilised" Amal Concentric. That has a proper idle circuit, so it would tick over.

Oiled spark plug was the common culprit of not starting - these were intended for racing not slipping the clutch around town. Cheers Tony!

wow superb video and top shelf restoration of a classic. Special thanks for taking her out on the road when all the bits were finally fettled and fitted. She sounded brilliant! Thanks for your effort. J.

Bril!, love the 'duff duff' on idle. Great job!. Could you do my 1956 BSA D3 Swingarm Bantam? Nuff said. 🤣

I was talking to an boy only last week in the 60s at one point he had 14 of these at the same time and they only payed about 35 to 40 quid each, he needed the money at the time so he sold them all for roughly about the same he payed for them, he said back then they just was a cheap bike no one really wanted them if only he’d had a crystal ball, he actually done his apprenticeship at BSA

Hello, I am currently building a BSA A10 Desert sled. I would also like to swap the half hub for a 190mm full hub. Can you perhaps tell me how far off center the hub needs to be inserted. I have to have the wheel spoked at a company and shipped, so I can't center it in the fork. Thanks for the answer. frank

How did you get it to idle on a GP ????
@craiggebauer75192 ай бұрын
Mikuni Carb came with the bike and make's the bike more rideable in traffic as well as holding Idle, However Im looking to Change over to a GP carb as soon as I find an acceptable one, Im told it is possible to get the GP carb to Idle with some modification, I will cross the bridge when I get to it.

U should not heat the chamber when fixing the bearings waste fellow 😂😅😅😂
@motolab.EuropeanMotorcycles5 ай бұрын
Off course you should! Always. Bearings in the freezer and there you go…. Not doing so will damage the crankcase’s everytime you change a bearing a little, until the fitting becomes to wide and historic crankcases are maybe beyond repair….
@user-dx2rx3lc2g5 ай бұрын
@@motolab.EuropeanMotorcycles I’m not satisfied with ur reply because I myself am a diploma in automobile engineering and i can easily fit a bearing using only oil

@@user-dx2rx3lc2g can be, it is what it is… we do restore old motorcycles by trade for more than 38 years…. Certified engineer and did recondition hundreds of old engines… We are talking about engines at least 60 years old, not new ones…. These old and specific GoldStar crankcases are irreplaceable, once broken….. Do what you want, any professional restorer will agree with me….

Bearings in the Freezer & their U Go! - 100%
@ekspatriat3 күн бұрын
@@user-dx2rx3lc2g It's a general accepted thing. Heat up the case and freeze the bearing. Drift it in on the outer race only. No damage and an easy job.
