It would’ve been way more meaningful especially when it comes to growth in Atsushi & Akutagawa’s relationship & interactions as the new shin soukoku. Or how they didn’t even animate Akutagawa’s backstory, I heard someone comment that Akutagawa even cried when Dazai gave him his coat, which would’ve been such a good character moment for Akutagawa!

Ok, but they really did kinda botch Akutagawa's 'death' scene. His last words (something along the lines of “You fool. Hurry up and go.”) was supposed to be said almost softly with some kind of fondness to it. The way he said it in the anime (dub and sub) was way to gruff and just didn't really insinuatate what the manga did. It really sucks, bcus that could've been one of the few soft moments we see between shin sokouku (kind of like the line "it's bcus I trusted you, you idiot" that chuuya gave to dazai after using corruption. Though, in that one, it's fine that his tone was harsh for the main reason that he were /directly/ saying that he trusted Dazai. I could also bring up that one scene in dead apple, but there's no way I'm explaining it in text) Yeah, I know this isn't really the right comment section to rant about this

In the manga, you could tell he already knew he'd die and the fondness in his expression brings a bittersweet mood to the scene. In the anime they just don't capture that. It seemed almost rushed with how quickly it was executed (poor wording, I know). I guess I was looking for the way Akutagawa was saying goodbye to Atsushi without really saying it. He knew it was the end so his expression was peaceful as he told Atsushi to just go. It felt like something final. Like a too-quick farewell. The anime just didn't really have that. I dunno. Maybe I'm being a bit picky rn
