Is there a database for these vintage printing calculators? I have an old RR printing calculator with a wide roller, can't find anything on it

Hello. This video has been a lifesaver so far while tinkering with a Remington Rand machine I got recently. Mine is a bit different though, it has a “no add” key and what I believe is a “reset” key. I’m not sure what they do though. The “no add” and “subtotal” keys do not appear to be working, I can’t press them down at any point. Do you have any suggestions on why this could be happening? It’s odd because the total key does work.

I found a Remington rand adding matching and it was working fine. Then the lever got stuck and the Keys won’t press down. Any suggestions?

My guess would be the actual mechanism is jammed, and since the rest of the mechanism didnt move along with the lever (the lever just has a spring connected to it that moves the actual mechanism, and if you pull the lever but the rest of the mechanism doesnt move, the lever will lock until the rest of the mechanism catches up to it) it locked the lever. You would have to try and see whats jamming the rest of the mechanism, but be careful because once its free it will spring to catch up with the lever

I just found a remington rand adding machine and used it once and the 2nd row of the typing head got stuck in the up posiition which froze the handle and locked the machine. (Sorry I have no idea what the terms are.) Any hints or is there a good trouble shooting guide out there? The only thing that I have done is spray a little silicon wd40 in there to see if something works loose. I am not sure where to even look. Thanks

The first thing I would check is to see if the hammers that drive the stamps into the paper got stuck forward, if so the backs of the stamps above them would hit the hammers and prevent the risers from dropping back down. If thats not it, it could be the wheels of the register are stuck and when the risers try to drive them they get stuck since the wheels wont turn. I would open the machine and try to wiggle the risers back and forth to see what theyre jamming against

Where can I find a ribbon for this adding machine?

You can probably use a generic typewriter ribbon but will have to roll it onto the smaller spools used by this machine

Interesting fault indeed. The only reason I can think of which could have displaced the spring is dropping the machine on the side from high enough to cause springs to jump and go under each other. I would expect such a heavy bump to show on the enclosure as a dent, though.
