BSS2023 #15 Air Arms reveal their new Ultimate Springer, XTi-50 and all new Kymira PCP (limited ed')

Sheila talks us through the Ultimate Springer (the TX200 in an Ultimate Sporter stock), the XTi-50 (which we saw unveiled last year) in its FT and HFT guises, plus an all-new PCP rifle the Kymira, with its titanium reservoir, plunger cocking (twist to unlick then straight-pull) and 40 year Air Arms commemorative stock.

I'm all for if it isn't broke don't fix it, But Air Arms could improve on there 10 year + designed (S510) rifles. Make a Bottle version, better safety position, better fill probe, lighter models. Don't get me wrong, Air arms are great i have one but nothing changes.

Air arms has still nothing done at the "one side" acces of the TX loading ports while many are complaining about that. The Kymira is in my opinion just a pimped S410 where they swap the bolt for a stupid knob and put on a nonsense titanium tube that makes it only more expensive and gives a cheap look to it. To be honest, the S410 Walnut looks way better.

Lets chuck a posh stock on it and charge ridiculous prices for the same rifle. We could go one further and try and convince everyone they are getting a limited edition rifle because its got a shiny certificate with its posh stock...….oh hang on, Daystate do that !!!...….Ahhh don't worry they're all to thick to notice." For me, the best springer Air Arms ever made was the TX200SR. I'd love to get my hands on one of those again. Fantastic rifle.

TX 200S? What’s the S stand for. Nothing mechanical changed? Just the stock? So how is this a new airgun?

Recently I got back into air rifles, using my +35 years old Diana. I have been think to get a replacement for over a year and I was between the TX200 and the HW97. I was very inclined towards the TX200 because it’s looks better finished and because it’s British made. But after seeing no a single improvement and just a rise on the price again, I’ll go straight with the Germans. It’s a pity but I’m not going to buy basically the same gun for double the price only because it’s made in England. I think Air Arms need to rethink what they are doing. £945 for a springer??? We are getting in the territory of a really good PCP already.

Laminated stocks are sold as something special, but they're basically just plywood. Marine grade 18mm ply is £70.00 for an 8x4, this means you can get 8 standard TX200 stocks out of one sheet. 30" x 6" x 2". They're cheaper to produce and use less wood. There is very little new in the spring air gun world, since the HW77, Theoben Gas Ram, and the John Whiscombe. Since then they've just been reinventing the wheel.

£945 for a black stained beech stock TX200 is extortionate, guess the laminate and Walnut versions will be north of a grand - utter madness IMHO!

I just bought my dream springer a few weeks ago, the amazing pro sport which I’ve wanted for years but back in the day air arms never catered for us lefties and when I found out that they were doing a left handed one I immediately starting putting money to one side and I now have what I believe to be the pinnacle of all springers. I got one in 177 and my god is it accurate pellet on pellet at 35 yards sitting and rested and that’s pcp territory. The finish on it is the best I’ve seen and the shooting cycle is so smooth and just a dull thud as the pellet leaves the barrel. The trigger straight from the box is set just right and I’m going to put my neck out here but I think it’s a better trigger than the Weihrauch’s which I’ve shot for nearly 50 years. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big Weihrauch fan owning five of them, two 95k’s in 22 and 177, the 99s in 22 and the 97k blue laminate in 22 which is an awesome rifle and very accurate and a hw100kt in 177 but I’m getting much better groups springer wise with the pro sport. I said after the pro sport that’s it no more rifles but I’m really considering the tx200 hc next year, I’m really impressed with the performance of the pro sport and it’s definitely a keeper.
